Spam Attacks - How YOU can prevent them

Here is how to prevent a spammer, when a staff member is not online:
  • MAKE A REPORT, this is the best thing to do, because when a staff member does come online, they can ban the player(s)
  • TYPE /ch G Leave this will make you leave the global channel so you will not hear the spammers, and you can talk in Local chat, and do /tell to you friends

It is very annoying when spammers attack, and these are some ways to prevent it, We apologize for the inconvenience when staff aren't online, but these are a few ways to prevent it.

You can also use /ignore (theirname) - Thanks Nebih (:

(WHEN YOU WANT TO JOIN BACK GLOBAL CHANNEL JUST TYPE /CH G)!

Still learning all of the controls on the PC side of things (the 360 is wicked easy to learn) so this is good to know. Next time (which I hope doesn't happen) I'll just leave the general chat and talk to my townies. :D

Waters, could you add something saying you are not to talk back and disrespect those who are spamming? Some people seem to think it's okay to do so, which from what I remember the mods do not approve of so I assume you admins would not approve of it either. :/

Also the problem with those spammers last night was simply leaving and joining, spamming that way. Even leaving the chat wont help that, right?

That is correct Tide, unfortunately, I don't believe that leaving the chat will help with join/leave spam, as with the attack last night. Also, I agree with Twist, perhaps something could be added to the OP that instructs people not to attack/be disrespectful to/insult/etc. the spammer(s) as, for one, just because they are spamming does not mean that you shouldn't treat them with respect just like all of the other people on the server, and for another, talking back to the spammer(s) and insulting him/her/them could make matters worse, in more ways than one. Particularly for the fact that whomever is doing it is, more than likely, partly looking for a response, which, if you're talking back at them, insulting them, berating them, etc., they'll probably just keep going, if not get worse about it, because you happen to be giving them exactly what they want, and they're thoroughly enjoying it too. It would generally be best to simply ignore them and calmly report them, /ignore them, /ch g leave, etc.

We moderators and admins should not even have to tell players not to swear and be rude to spammers. As long as they are swearing/being disrespectful, they are breaking a server wide rule and will be punished. Like several others have said, if Waterworth will be so kind as to add this, when you talk back to a spammer, that encourages them and will more than likely make them want to spam more.

The same goes with someone who says they are from planet minecraft and stuff. They get treated with a lot of disrespect. Sometimes even guests who curse get disrespect and keep doing it. Back I topic now if there is a join/leave spam there should be a way that the server automatically shuts down until an admin or ineed fixes it.

as far as I know /ignore has always been a command that only could be used by moderators and admins...

I have been using /ignore as a member for some time now, it is not limited to admins and mods.

Of course, if it is just chat spam and you guys are getting hit with spammers frequently there is a plugin which will ban the spammers even with no staff online. It gives them 3 kicks and then a ban.
