Title: why is the server down?

i dont know if the server is being updated or something but it wont let me on the server right now. it says its joinable but everytime i click on the server it just says logging in and freezes my minecraft or says end of stream.  :'(

Hey Buddy, Minecraft.net's login servers are down its happening for everyone and every server :(

*sniff* I might as well get 1.9 pre and play SP on that and downgrade when it's back. Theres a downside and an upside. :) :(
