Really, you want to argue logic with someone who is in calculus.
Ok
the average ant weights 0.0000033069 lbs
40 times its own weight is 0.000132276 lbs

The average pair if boots weights 3 lbs
A single boot is 1.5 lbs
The weight of a boot far out weights the maximum a ant can lift
0.000132276<1.5

You don't need calculus to figure that out. I just started taking intro to algebra and that problem is a breeze. And I said a big ant. We'll be pretty big. Take my body weight, 110 lbs. Multiply that by 40 and you get 4,400 lbs. that it would be possible to lift. Of course if there was an ant that size, humans should really worry about their "dominance over Earth".

Ants are beginning to sound like a viable option for the next jungle biome mob. They could pop up in temples much like silverfish...

I started v5 with a shack and a small farm. I expect to start out in v6 much the same, but with the addition of a horse stable.

My first house in V6 will undoubtedly be similar to my first house in V5 because I can build those quickly with basic materials. Small footprint, main area, attic area, and storage area. Everything else is decoration.

I am going to seek out an area of the new map that has an interesting landscape and try to create a build that uses the terrain. Multiple levels, retaining walls, and hopefully bridges and aqueducts with as little flattening of the land as is necessary. I would also like to have a dock area. I don't want a mountain village, but more of a sprawling large complex.

This may have been addressed before, but how locked in to a location are we with wilderness claims? Is it imperative that you pick a spot to stay at, or could you theoretically relocate, un-claim, and have the old location revert to its natural state?  The answer to that would dictate how serious one should be about scouting a location to start out at.

Bumping this before I make my post. Like, say you find a spot in the wild that you think you might settle on, then you claim it. But after doing some more exploring, you find a better spot and would like to move. What are our options in that scenario? Can we even own two un-connected areas in the wild?

Hokay. Here's what my V6 towny house will most likely look like. The torches serve as plot boundaries.

Probably going to build myself a nice huge castle to live in after I rack up some major money in V6. Perhaps a nice feudal-era Japanese castle... *drifts off into daydreaming*

Mhm. Thinking of using a dirt block instead of a furnace for the "lock" and a diamond hoe for the "key," but a stick in a furnace provides just the right amount of time for entry and exit. We can expect pistons to work in V6, right? ;)

This is why I need a minimum of 50 chunks...

I'm going to need probably 600 chunks for Utopia testing sites, houses, storage facilities, mining caves, etc. Not too much :P

But... but... this mansion looks like it can fit in a 3x3 chunk square. I take it there's a whole lot more to it :) (Are some of the chunks for stinky when he builds all sorts of things in your backyard? ;) ) I would love to drop by and go fishing here whenever I need a break from town building, if that's alright.

Foob said you can have unconnected chunks in an earlier post when I asked. You can also unclaim/sell plots much like in towns, or you can auction them using the new system.

The actual footprint is approx 60 x 60, but i need a small buffer all around for trees and gardens (at the very least so I can keep people from building too close).  This buffer would need to be a minimum 25 blocks on each side thus the 110 x 110 need, or roughly 50 chunks.  As many of you know, I'm not at all a fan of having to buy wilderness land.  I don't need anyone to explain why (please don't), I just want to know whether or not I will be able to get the chunks I need with the 26k tokens I have.  If all I have is 11 chunks, there is no need for me to build.

Max, you need 49 chunks then and the dementions are 112x112 because of the chunk sizes

I knew there would be some stickler for exact math, that's why I was careful to say "approx" and "roughly".

Ehm... that is about 3 Chunks, remember that 1 Chunk is 16x16

Ehm...no.

As Magic noted, it is 49 chunks to be exact.  There are 12544 blocks in a 112 x 112 area.  There are 256 blocks in each chunk (16 x 16).  Divide 12544 by 256 and you get exactly 49 chunks.  As my house is "approx" 60 x 60 and I need a 25 block buffer all around, this yields (110 x 110), which is "roughly" 50 chunks.

Oh FYI on each chunk you claim there is a 1 chunk buffer all around so others can't build up next to the chink you claimed.

Wow! :O  I did not know that.  That will significantly reduce the amout of total chunks I need.

Thanks for the info Magic!  :D

Actually Magic, you are wrong. I asked Foob this question some days ago, and at first I thought exactly the same. The one chunk thing is only between you and other players so they can't box people in at spawn or so they can't get by someone. The best thing to do if you want to protect a big part of land you want would be to buy a large perimeter around the area you want to eventually claim. That way, no one can get in and claim your wanted land (although if they used enderpearls they might be able to get through... Foob you might want to check on that if you haven't already).
