The X Mine seems way more efficient for me, I don't like to count blocks when branch mining. With this one, everytime you hit a marker you count six blocks and turn.

It works really well even for casual mining. The central branch makes it easy to find where you left off last. Make sure to hit the right layers for diamonds! I even find a lot of Lapis at 13/14
