Title: Puzzles
Post by: Samoht42Swift on 10 Jan 2014, 20:41:02
Hey guys!
I haven't been around recently and I thought I'd get back in on the whole Noobstown thing.
So here's an idea for something to do when you're waiting for V6.
I'm going to be making a series of puzzles/secret messages for you guys that will get progressively harder and harder.
Those who correctly solve these puzzles will be awarded a voucher for an amount of noobs later on, when V6 comes out. The harder the puzzle, the more noobs you will receive.
So! Let's get right to it!

Dear TOSHIBA,
Ciy!
Tpi ylu pithdka rcdq lp euqr auiqqdka?
Rigg ji rci qispir wlph wcdsc dq cdhhik dk rcdq jiqqtai tkh ylu wdk!
Qdjmgi tq rctr.

The second part of this puzzle was a little obscure so here's a hint: 4 letters.

ps. mods please don't lock the topic like last time, it isn't spam, ty

Do these puzzles actually have a key for each one or is it just sorta scrambled?
Title: Re: Puzzles
Post by: Samoht42Swift on 11 Jan 2014, 00:28:43
Yes, there is actually a key for each puzzle. I don't just write down random stuff and try and make you guys 'decode' it.
Title: Re: Puzzles
Post by: HarryX11 on 11 Jan 2014, 01:15:19
So is the decoder in the hidden? Is it hidden?

Post by: Samoht42Swift on 11 Jan 2014, 01:33:50
The decoder is actually in plain sight on this one. And you might not even need it.

Bingo! We have a winner! Now for round two!
Give me a minute to double check and get it posted. Last one had a couple mistakes in it.

Alright, here it is! Puzzle #2!

Someone hands you a slip of paper with this on it.

Since you guys are all wondering where Myrf got "hats" from, here is the solution.

Here is the decoder:
ABCDEFGhijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
TOSHIBAcdefgjklmnpqruvwxyz

And here is the message:

Hey!
Are you reading this or just guessing?
Tell me the secret word which is hidden in this message and you win!
Simple as that.

The secret word is found by looking downwards at the message.
H ey
A re
T ell
S imple

And I have no idea how much the voucher will give, it could be anywhere between 100 to 1000 noobs.
It really depends on how much money I have.

We are too dumb for your impossible puzzles, please give us something we can actually do because I do not understand how he got hats from that at ALL even from the decoder I do not understand a single thing from that im serious... help me

That puzzle's decoder had no logical pattern to it... what was the pattern
Title: Re: Puzzles
Post by: EmperorMyrf on 13 Jan 2014, 10:06:45

T O S H I B A c d e f g j k l m n p q r u v w x y z
A B C D E F G h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

For every letter you see in the scrambled message you go to the decoder, find the letter in the top row, and then replace it with a letter in the bottom row.

And no, there is no logical pattern to the decoder except that TOSHIBA corresponds to ABCDEFG, so he basically gave away 7 free letters. You find the decoder by deducing what the message should say and by looking at the patterns present in the message.

For example in the first sentence there are two words that ended in "dka", and we already know that A corresponds to G from the hint. I knew that a very common ending in words is "ing" so I'd be willing to bet that D corresponds to I and K corresponds to N (and I was right). Then I can replace all the D's and K's in the rest of the message and continue on as such.

This is a very common logic puzzle called a cryptogram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptogram).

I tied to solve the second one but there is no logical answer with a ceasar cipher.

There's really only one thing you need to find out and that's "how much it's shifted". Which is easily derived from how much you're jumping and word length.

That isn't true for the first one though, because Z was equal to Z, yet A corresponded G. A 0 letter difference VS a 6 letter difference, there is no pattern in that. Of course, I'm probably overthinking like always.

Their is a man who goes to work every day, leaves his flat at 9am and arrives back at 5pm but when he gets back home from work and its been a rainy day he goes straight to his room on the 13th floor via the lift also if their is people in the lift with him he will also go to the 13th floor however if neither of these happen then he has to go to the 7th floor and walk the rest

Why?

Now thats a proper puzzle not a stupid code

Otherwise he just hits the button he can reach.
Step it up.

Done with that one? Here's one

A guy walks into a bar. He asks the bartender for a glass of water. Then, the bartender reaches under the bar and takes out a gun. He points the gun straight at the man. The man looks at him and says ‘thank you’. He leaves after thanking him. What happened?

Ill give you guys a hint in like a day.

Say you downloaded a 1.7.5 Survival World and tested it in Single Player. You find yourself in a 3x3 bedrock platform, and the only way to proceed is to somehow cross a 6-block gap to another platform on the same y-level. (It's high enough that falling means certain death). You take note that you have 11 string on your hotbar, which is the only item in your inventory. There's a sign on the other platform that promises diamonds and other good stuff at the bottom.

How will you cross the chasm using just 11 string?

I'd turn 8 string into 2 wool blocks, and place them on the edge of the platform, remove the first one and pick it up again, and crawl my way across the gap like that.

Using the two-wool place-and-replace method--- typically when you break a block that's on the level right below your feet, that item would just fall down and you're not likely to get it back. (There's a small chance you would, due to the random direction/velocity given by the game).

And then, to be able to jump across four blocks would require mad mc parkour skills (skillz?)-- it can be done, but you'd have to press spacebar at the very last pixel, which requires lots of practice. If this hypothetical survival map was on hardcore... Yeah.

But there is a surefire way to cross it.
