Everybody be sure to wish Nebih a happy brithday!  Here's a screenshot from last night's celebration, where we burned through several stacks of holiday crackers and cupid torches  :D

Noobstown General / Re: What's in your wilderness?
« on: 15 May 2018, 17:28:14 »
On opening day, I saddled up my pet bat and flew to a tiny island I'd scouted out on the livemap. It was much the same size, geography, and relative map location as my V5 home had been, which I'm sure was no coincidence. A 3x3 grid chunk claim locked it in as mine, and provided adequate room to plop down some chests and begin collecting money and resources to help get the town started. We proceeded to mine the subterranean space to bedrock, move the storage below ground, discover a tunnel leading to a skeleton spawner, and never actually got around to building anything above ground  :D  Maybe one day I'll build some ruins on the island, or a shipwreck, but not rushing into anything.

I think this could be an interesting trial run. The randomized, ever changing spawn locations have certainly made mining world exploration more accessible. I'm just a little bit worried that I might have been in a temporary world when I last logged out 🤦‍♂️

Be sure to check your in-game mail - I wasn't able to get to my iron chest before you logged out, but did have a little to contribute.

Some interesting stories behind these names!

Mine's not a reference to a movie as is often thought, but rather a book.  I'd just read Amir Aczel's take on quantum entanglement, which is an interesting place to start searching for Schrödinger's cat.  In retrospect I could have just as well borrowed from Carl Sagan, but Cosmos was already taken and DemonHauntedWorld too long to type :p

Good stuff.  That mask came out great!  I'm partial to the Hylian crest though - need a three-foot high one of those for my house.

You guys all had great costumes!  I have nothing to contribute - we kinda missed out on Halloween this year, but we did have a guy come by at work with an Error 404 - Costume Not Found t-shirt, which I thought was a good minimum-effort :D

Nice floating island!  Needs a giant tree and a couple iron golems, and it'd be perfect.

« on: 29 Mar 2014, 12:48:40 »
That's the worst part of putting a new computer together - paying for all the parts!  If you want to save some money, keep an eye out for used computers or components from somebody that's recently upgraded.  My budget upgrade put me to a core 2 quad with board, 8 gigs of ram, and a new GT 630 for a total expense of $75, which I couldn't beat with a stack of sticks.

I can't speak for your need for more memory or video card, or if you'd want to shave money off the budget, but if it were me, I'd be trying to save money to spend on some changes.  Could probably save on the CPU cooler, motherboard, memory, power supply, optical drive, sound card, fans, and keyboard, and recycle an old case.  This would leave money to put toward a bigger (or additional) monitor, and a SSD.  I'd venture to say money spent on a SSD on which to install the OS would do more to speed up system performance than throwing more money elsewhere.  Depending on what your use will be, sometimes it's nice to have two displays, or one nice big screen.  I know I spend a lot more time looking at my mediocre monitor than I do at my expensive RAM which I never fully utilize.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Lowering wilderness plot prices.
« on: 11 Feb 2014, 05:57:07 »
I'll preface this by saying that I admired your V5 wilderness build such that I had mapped the coordinates, and when the topic of conversation would turn to cool wilderness builds, I would show it as an example.  I have complete confidence in your ability to build something befitting of a large chunk claim, and would be glad to have you as a wilderness neighbor.  However, considering the exponential rise in the wilderness chunk price scale compared to what I'd assume is a fixed price per plot claim for towns, I have to ask:  Would a large-scale build be more practical for the town world instead?  Would you hypothetically, as a mayor or TA, be able to do something like this as a town feature or an outpost?

Edit:  Or we just need some sponsors who become heavily involved in the town world, who can become wilderness friends to donate chunk claims adjacent to yours, on which to grant you builder permission.  Potential for failure in that plan, though.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Keep repair difficult.
« on: 11 Feb 2014, 05:35:51 »
I have no problem with repair being difficult to level, as it should be.  The reward for having a high level repair skill is enough to justify the time and resources involved, even if to simply save material versus crafting a replacement.  If you absolutely want to keep your enchants, you're better off using a vanilla anvil, but if you simply want the convenience of saving resources and time by repairing regular tools, MCMMO repair is immediately useful from level 0.

Iron is plenty abundant, so if you absolutely must use iron tools and armor for everything and can't bother to level repair to 70, I'm sure there will be people willing to do a free repair in exchange for the XP.  To me this seems pretty inconvenient considering the difference in durability relative to the difference in abundance of material.  Pretty sure I'm at or near repair level 10 after a casual weekend of playing, which is pretty good pace in my estimation.  I wouldn't expect to be repairing diamond before the server is out of beta, and that's fine as starting from nothing with intentions of using diamonds for everything is impractical.

For what it's worth, my mining level is over 100, and I've only gone through 1-2 iron picks, and ~10% of the durability of a diamond pick for obsidian.  The rest has all been done with stone picks which I've probably repaired a good 250-300 times now.  The same amount of mining would have probably consumed somewhere around 6-8 stacks of iron ingots or 1-1/2 stacks of diamonds (guesstimating those numbers), and while I'l gladly upgrade when resources permit, using and repairing stone tools is obviously not a detriment to getting a good start.  For reference, that amount of mining yielded somewhere around ten double chests of stone, but only perhaps 4 or 5 stacks of iron, and 9 diamonds, which may give perspective to what the obvious choice of tool is going to be.

Someone had indicated that they were initially only able to repair wooden tools, and if this is true I suspect it was a bug as I was able to repair stone tools from the very beginning, and saw nothing in /repair or any MCMMO help screens to state that a minimum level was required for stone repair, as gold, iron, and diamond clearly state what their minimum level requirements are set to.
