Noobstown General / Re: Unused claimed chunks
« on: 27 Jul 2016, 17:25:02 »
I'm pretty sure chuck resetting requires Admin level access. It may be best to /msg ItsLawrence in game. He is available quite often.

Also take note of which chucks you would like to have reset and who the current owner is of those chunks. While in game type /player [chunk owner] to see when they have last visited the server. If you do this before hand it will make it easier for ItsLawrence to verify their inactivity.

If there are many chucks you are looking to reset as opposed to just a couple, you could make a list with the owners, last active date and coordinates to facilitate the process, provided everything checks out. But either way, contact the admin first to see how he wants to proceed.

The player that would most likely be looking for spawners just posted that they will be inactive for about a month. So your timing is impeccable.  :P

It would seem that PMC may have resolved this issue on their own, as this no longer works for me. I'm not sure if simultaneous voting on multiple devices still works because I can't do that.

I have to agree with eboniics, even though the system may be flawed it should stay in place. Without the monthly rankings I wouldn't be inclined to vote every day. $2500 is not that great an incentive to compel me. I can make that amount fairly easily and quickly. I'm sure others feel the same.

Both times I've made the rankings I only voted from one device and I missed days. I made No.4 with maybe 26 or 27 votes for the month. I made No.10 with maybe 23 or 24. If you are committed to voting every day you can still get on there using one device. July is the first month I've entered supplemental votes from another location because I'm bound to miss a few days and I wasn't satisfied with 10th place.

Are you sure a player gets paid twice? I know I've voted from home and from work in the same day and I don't think I've received more than the $2500. I've done it, not to game the system, but to ensure one of my votes is counted in a 24 hour cycle. I typically vote at the same time during the day and if I miss that window it throws off the schedule so I'll put in a back-up vote if I know I'll miss it next go around.

I could test the payout to verify, but I'm sure the admin already knows the answer.

I don't have an issue with multiple payouts of $2500 if that is actually happening. What I would have a problem with, is a player getting a higher vote count even though they haven't voted everyday and ending with a higher ranking at the end of the month through multiple votes over fewer days. I try hard to vote everyday and I wouldn't want that reward going to someone else.

Server Announcements / Re: December Update

"V6 is like Half life 3"

However, we have quite a large break which will roughly last until the 20-29th of January which we plan to slot the release sometime during the 2nd-29th.

20 - 29 = -9
2 - 29 = -27

-9 + -27 = -36

-36 / -6 = 6

V6 Confirmed.

Congratulations to the winner.

I don't know, but I thought my costume was by far the scariest and a perfectly good joke gone to waste.  :P

Here is a picture of me wearing my super scary costume. I tried to go trick or treating earlier wearing this, but all the villagers refused to open their doors. Dejected and returning home candyless, I stumbled upon a creeper who immediately exploded at the mere sight of me wearing this terrifying get-up.

Server Announcements / Re: Unexpected Sad News!
« on: 23 Oct 2013, 13:59:30 »
I would just like to add that I fully support the admins in this process. I'm sure we all realize what a large undertaking this new server and version really is and I, personally, always thought the initial expected downtime was a bit optimistic. If additional time is needed to ensure the product is as stable and as good as hoped for then it's understandable to take that time.

There is nothing more I would enjoy about now then to be playing on the noobscraft server with the other people I have become fond of. I have tried to fill the noobscraft void with other servers, but frankly the experience has been less then satisfying and I have given up on the attempt to add substance to that vacuum. It can't be done.

It was lucky that my first choice, after a fair bit of research, was this server and this community. Although the news of further delay is indeed sad, I know I will eventually get back the enjoyable experience that playing on this server has been. So the future is promising.

I'm also not Water, but since much of our player base is in North America, we can likely expect to see around 8 non-admin staff members for those time zones (2-ish per). In addition he's likely looking at 2 or 3 more outside of the states, mainly UK/Euro and maybe Aus/Pacific.

To my knowledge anyways, don't quote me on this.

You can't tell me what to do. ;-P

16
That is part of the towny plugin and the server can't edit the towny plugin.

It is configurable within the Towny config.yml. Plot size and plots per resident can be changed if the admins desired to do so. These changes should probably be made at initial install of the plug-in.

Code: [Select]
# maximum number of plots any single resident can own
  max_plots_per_resident: '100'

We need to stop thinking in terms of the V5 economy. V6 will undoubtedly be different, nuanced, and Noobz may not mean what one expects them to.

Why do you want to be a Prefect?: There have been several occasions while on this server when I have experienced unwanted or malicious behavior by other players, usually in the form of chat spamming or deliberate antagonizing. There can't always be a moderator available, but it would be great if something could be done to nip this behavior in the bud before it become a detriment to the legitimate players.

I don't wish to be a moderator. My work and family come first and that doesn't allow me to be as consistent a presence as I feel a moderator should be. The duties assigned to a Prefect sound like they would suit my commitment level.

I am always happy to help out others when they need it while asking nothing in return and I always try to be respectful in my game-play.

My first house in V6 will undoubtedly be similar to my first house in V5 because I can build those quickly with basic materials. Small footprint, main area, attic area, and storage area. Everything else is decoration.

I am going to seek out an area of the new map that has an interesting landscape and try to create a build that uses the terrain. Multiple levels, retaining walls, and hopefully bridges and aqueducts with as little flattening of the land as is necessary. I would also like to have a dock area. I don't want a mountain village, but more of a sprawling large complex.

Noobstown General / Re: Mineing world grief?
« on: 23 Aug 2013, 18:28:00 »
I think that people grief to get resources so they can build their own personal things. I can understand why they'd do it, but griefing is still very wrong nonetheless.

I would mostly disagree. There seems to be two kinds of grief. The first is to obtain resources that one is too lazy to obtain on their own and the second is for purely destructive reasons.

My experience with the first kind has been very limited aside from stolen gold blocks and other miscellaneous blocks that would be considered more rare or more valuable. The griefer comes in, takes the blocks they want and off they go. If the theft happens to cause some destruction or chaos then so be it, they got what they wanted.

The second type of grief is more prevalent. Putting holes in walls, tearing up manicured paths, placing water down. This type serves no purpose other than to amuse the griefer. With the exception of that Anubis statue, anything I have built in the mining world has been made from common materials like wood, logs, stone, or cobble. All that stuff is right there close by for the taking. Would someone really need to destroy a gravel path for the gravel resource? I throw that stuff away. The only reason I made a path in the first place was to use up all that useless gravel.

It is interesting that in that statue not one piece of obsidian was taken, which is a harder resource to come by. Presumably because it takes to much time to break. The time / destruction ratio is too high to make it worth it. But the glass holding back the water, which doesn't even drop a resource without weilding silk touch, was one of the first things to be broken, and was repeatedly broken. That along with the sandstone containing the pools. Both things have a much lower time / destruction ratio.

I don't believe the majority of grief is players harvesting resources. I think the acts are very similar to when someone finds an abandoned house or a house that is unoccupied for an extended period of time and they proceed to vandalize it. There is no respect for what is not theirs and they don't consider the consequences, there is nobody home after all, but the rush of destruction takes hold.

I like to see how long my builds can live in that kind of environment and if I continually repair them will that have any effect? I built a large head once and occasionally I would find several blocks griefed and I would repair them and go on my way. That went on for about 2 weeks until one day someone put up a sign that said "please do not grief the awesome" and the very next day someone destroyed the whole thing, completely gone, all that was left was that sign.

I think the rule is no building "houses" in the mining world.

After I built that Anubis statue and the sandstone fountain behind it, someone was griefing it when a mod happened to be right there and saw what they were up to. They received a temp ban for it.

When I build in the mining world it is purely for fun and since I know the builds wont last I don't care too much about the grief. That said, I don't understand griefing someone else's build at all. There is no point most of the time beyond pure destruction and that makes me worry about a person's mental state. Do they get joy out of breaking things that someone else created? Would they do that in real life as well if there were no foreseeable repercussions? I can sort of understand why someone would steal my gold blocks, but wood or cobble, you don't need that stuff.

I build things in the mining world just to see how long they will last. How long until someone can't control themselves and just must smash that glass pane spilling water out, making a mess, making something creative into something that is a blight. A kind of social experiment.

I won't report griefing in the mining world, but I also don't condone it or truly understand it.

Derek is no hero. He is a scalper at best and possibly a down right criminal.

Word on the street is that he has been kicked out of the merchants guild and that is why he is not allowed inside the building with the other vendors. As a result he loathes those respectable sellers and in a vain attempt to negatively impact their honest businesses he set up his own shop just outside where they have no authority.

His items are of dubious origin and likely "fell out of a chest" at some point. Do not be surprised if whatever you buy from him gets confiscated by the admins as part of a ongoing investigation. Caveat emptor.

This is all rumor and speculation, but regardless, I don't like the look of Derek nor do I trust him. Seven emeralds for a cake indeed!

25
What do you lot do when you get very bored on noobscraft?:D

I fish for items and xp and then enchant tools, farm my crops and tree farm, build random things. I recent built a zombie grinder around a spawner that I stole from you  :P  so sometimes I'll go stand in front of that and watch the chatter.

I haven't started any large builds, and I won't until the upgrade, so anything I do is smaller buildings or detail type stuff.
