Suggestions & Ideas / Custom Advancements [1.12]
« on: 20 Jul 2017, 20:52:22 »
So, one of the bigger but perhaps not-so-widely known changes to Minecraft for the 1.12 update was the complete overhaul of the achievements system. The original achievement screen was replaced with a completely new GUI featuring multiple tabs, different tiers of difficulty and a method of adding new, custom achievements to world saves.
It is the last of those points I want to talk about. See, I was looking at the advancements screen, and I noticed that a number of the advancements are simply unobtainable with how the server works ("Subspace Bubble" and "Uneasy Alliance", for example, which both involve nether portals). I also think that a number of us have been feeling the absence of ongoing quests at the moment, and therefore I want to make a suggestion.
Adding custom advancements to the server in replacement of the Vanilla counterparts would create short-term goals for players and therefore promote activity. It could fill that competitive void left by theme months, and, in fact, would provide a more lag-conservative and accessible host for future questlines as they would not require so much reliance on NPCs. I can also confirm that they are server-side; no download would be required for players.
I understand that staff might currently be unfamiliar with the workings of advancements - I myself am not exactly an expert - and therefore implementing this feature would be difficult. However, this board is, as far as I'm aware, open to any and all suggestions, so I thought I'd put this one out there.
If you've made it this far down the post, hats off to you, sir  :P

Edit: I realise after posting that I didn't really provide any examples of how these advancements would work, so I'll do that now:
A general tab called "Noobstown" or something along those lines would feature advancements such as "Businessman" (Descriptive text: "Order in the Auction!"), which would be received after listing an item on /ah, and "Millionaire" (Descriptive text: "Next stop: 1 billion nbz"), which would be received after hitting 1 million nbz. In fact, you could have a whole advancement tree stemming around /balance milestones, or power levels, or that kinda thing.
Theme month tabs could have more specific advancements. For example, say it's a hypothetical superhero-themed month. Advancements would include "Pacifist" (Descriptive text: "Rid the World of Weapons"), which would involve tossing any sword into a fire, and "Supernoob" (Descriptive text: "It's a bird! It's a plane!") which would be received after flying with the elytra with strength effect applied or something like that. Upon completing all advancements in this tab you might receive a custom head or some other reward along those lines.
These are just a couple of random examples.

Noobstown General / The NoobsTARDIS [Doctor Who TARDIS in MC]
« on: 18 Jun 2016, 23:18:40 »
Hey all,
For the past couple of weeks I've been working on a little project in my wild: the TARDIS. It can be found at /visit dalek27463 and currently contains the following rooms (images below):
  • Main console (Series 8/9)
  • Library (Series 7)
  • Backup console #1 (Classic console)
I plan to integrate the swimming pool, wardrobe and a couple of other backup consoles over time. If there are any rooms in particular you'd like to see, let me know.
Any and all feedback is welcome and accepted with gratitude.

Guides / Noobscraft for Newcomers
« on: 4 May 2015, 18:09:01 »
So, I was browsing the forums lately, and I thought - wouldn't it be great if us members all contributed to a joined guide for newcomers?
Well, that wasn't my thought exactly, but you get the point.
This is going to be a little different. Basically, anyone can add a little tip directed at the newer Noobs to help them out on their journey.
I'll start:

Don't rush.
Make sure to collect plenty of resources in the Mining World. Vote with /vote every day, and have patience. Let your money rise slowly, and don't aim too high at first. Make sure to take your time with things like buying Wild Chunks, as there isn't much use selling them even if you found a better location.

Other / The Legend of Slendown
« on: 29 Mar 2015, 20:08:28 »
Based on a real event involving my 'buddy' Countdown180, a VIP item and myself.
By Dalek27463

Chapter One: He's Watching You

Some say that Herobrine is greatest villain in Noobstown, and beyond that, Minecraftia.
But he be not. Once, long before Notch implemented time, another was destined to take the role of a villain - to stalk, to creep, and to strike from the shadows.
This man was SLENDOWN.
I know from experience that you should be afraid.
Because he's watching you. No matter where you are. You cannot see him, but he can see you.
Be afraid.

Chapter Two: He's Behind You

A nametag in the corner of your eye.
A flash of cobble texture in the Wintersbreath snow.
An enderpearl flying through the air.
He grows closer.
Look behind you. Nothing? That's what you think.
He is there. He is everywhere. And slowly he approaches.
Eyes narrow, a manical grin on his stone-cold face.(LOL, get it?)
He's here.
He's behind me now.
I have little time to continue writing.

Chapter Three: His Sword is Drawn

The diamond comes out of the blue, blade flashing like the swift and untouchable wind.
There is no way of stopping him.
You may try to defend, but he is too strong, too fast, too cunning.
He teleports into a million positions in a matter of seconds.
There is no escape.
He has me trapped. For weeks now, I have been trapped in this small bunker. But he's found me.
I hear his rock-heavy footsteps (XD) outside. I hear his sword being drawn.
This is the end, my friends. I've had a good long run. But all good things must come to an-

Author's Note

The m****cript ends here.
We have no truth of what has happened, but we can guess. Slendown took him.

Joking. I won't do this.
This is of course fictional. Countdown is not going to stalk and kill you.
Most of the time.
Sometimes.
Be afraid.
