Actually, it looks like it's been less than ten years, but still a long time!

Hi Noobstown, it's been at least ten years but I finally got back into my legacy email account and am in the process of recovering my old Minecraft credentials. It looks like a lot has changed but I hope to get back into this again soon!

So I was minding my own business on the server around 1am the other night, thinking I should probably go to bed soon, when my wife comes quietly out of the bedroom announcing that her water has broken and we should drive to the hospital.

Yesterday we had our first child, a healthy baby girl!

Needless to say, things have been pretty busy here and I probably won't be on the server much for a while but I hope to see you guys soon. Maybe she will be a good sleeper at night...

This is what I actually look like. You can see my name there on the hard hat so it's legit.

Sometimes for fun I like to walk into high concentration gas clouds of Hydrogen Sulphide. They even pay me pretty well for it.

I love this idea, but it would need a lockout timer so people can't do it just to annoy you. Or just tie it into /ignore maybe

Well it's been three years now since I've played any Minecraft. Not even sure what version you guys are on, but I am really liking it so far!

Just wanted to say Hi!

Thanks,
Josh

I guess I can't post my email address publicly. Send me a message if you want to have a game.

I'm first in my Silver league division, I'm not that great of a player but it would be nice to have some people to play with regularly.

Suggestion, one might be able to make a texture pack for the scenes and weapons to be more realistic.

Nice, you brought the pork machine back?

Let us know if it's a piston lag thing, Joe. I have a fairly large room lit by pistons that I could dismantle if necessary.

How do you find them confusing? And how would you like them separated? ItsLawrence is the guy to talk to about suggestions regarding the forums.

It was in English, the setting was mostly New York. What was really cool was that they incorporated the original Belgium version in there.

I think the hardest part about making one on a personal computer is setting up the network routing and port forwarding so others can access it too. That's why we pay the big bucks for a hosting company to set that up on T1 lines with expensive rack mounted server computers.

I JUST watched the Smurf movie with my nieces. I'll just say that it was smurfing hilarious. I didn't realize kids movies were so entertaining, lots of dirty jokes. Though I'm not looking forward to hearing the kids running around saying, "Go Smurf yourself!"

Either way, nice photo :)

Two points you might consider:

1. I believe the server is running more smoothly than it has since 1.4 (I think this was the version when I joined SMP). The occasional block lag and being temporarily disconnected has never been an issue to me nor many of the other members of the server. Most people I've found who are having buggy issues (myself included) will simply disconnect and reconnect, and it only takes a few seconds to do. But that's besides the point. Since moving to a dedicated machine with more RAM the server has been more than playable.

2. I'm not sure if you've ever tried this but I ran both a vanilla MC server and a Bukkit MC server on my local machine and network. I was trying to learn how Joe and the team do it and how the plugins operate. It was just myself logged in and using a localhost connection. Let me inform you that I still had block lag and the same errors as Noobscraft, with and without Bukkit plugins. This was also on my network machine with good specs hooked directly to my client! The point I'm trying to make here is that the SMP software code has a lot of flaws, which are well known and documented. A lot of them have nothing to do with the plugins installed, they are just inherent to the code of SMP itself. I've said it a few times before, but we are enjoying a game that is in Beta. There will be a few bugs that affect gameplay, and we are testing said bugs.

To summarize, I don't feel that the server needs to be taken offline for any amount of time in excess of what is needed to keep it running. The goal right now is to keep building on the list of trustworthy players we have so the serer can continue to grow. In some ninety(ish) days, Minecraft Version 1.0 will be released. And even then, being that it's whole purpose is to be a sandbox game, there will be additions and bugs that will eventually be fixed too. Notch also seems serious this time that Beta 1.8 will have official modding support, which means a new API and SDK that I'm sure Bukkit will migrate to making the plugins all that much more reliable.

And please, Justin, do not take my words with any hostility. In fact, if you disagree, I encourage you to disregard them. Just sharing my experiences with you and anyone else who feels like reading them. Either way, I suggest you look forward to the future of this game. That's why we're all here :)

Noobstown General / Re: How to: Become an Operator
« on: 10 Aug 2011, 06:01:07 »
IGN: JoshRosario

Age: 24

How many hours per day: 2-4 in the evenings if I'm working, otherwise 7+ all day.

Why you want this role: The server seems to be looking for more Ops during the late evenings.

Past experience: No direct experience with servers but I've worked a lot of Management and leadership oriented jobs in my life so I've learned to be diplomatic.

Time zone: PST (Western Canada)

Additional information: It feels as though I haven't been on the server long but I joined in V2 so I've seen and appreciate how much work goes in to it. I would like to contribute in any way possible. I try my very best to be nice and fair to all members of our little community.

Version two soon approaches us, I am pleased to announce the the server players will be categorised.
...
Spectators cannot build, destroy or have any access to any commands.

Spectacular idea. I tried to play on a server one time but instead of using this system, they instead locked new players in the spawn area and told us to join on the forums before being released. I didn't go for it. I think we'll have better luck here by enticing prospective new players with the creativeness of our communities.
