Competitions & Events / Easter Trades
« on: 26 Mar 2016, 02:37:58 »

The trades using the Easter Reward Token eggs are now available from the villagers at /warp spawn.

There are a range of coloured armour pieces available, plus a few novelty items; hopefully something you'll enjoy. It's unlikely you'll be able to afford everything so be selective about what you might want and save up/trade to get hopefully those things :). There is a small chance more items might be added over the weekend too, so keep an eye out for those in case they happen.

The trades will be available for at least this weekend and beyond for a few days so make the most of them while they're here!

For the Easter weekend I've also doubled the rate at which eggs spawn around the world!

From all of the Noobscraft team I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

Competitions & Events / Easter 2016!
« on: 20 Mar 2016, 17:30:07 »

The latest Noobstown Quest and theme, this time for Easter has been released! You can get started at /warp theme and get the beginning Tokens once per day using /kit theme! This month's story was created and designed by Hexidecima and the Town Staff of Silere Hills, so be sure to thank them for the story, rewards and great builds. The story revolves a lot more around searching their town so keep looking if you're lost; it's a hunt for the characters, they're all definitely there and shouldn't be too hard to find!

As we normally do we've also got the server Easter Eggs randomly spawning for our annual Easter Egg Hunt around the Town and Wilderness worlds. They aren't dragon eggs like we've used in previous years, they're colourful Egg heads, the look like the Eggs in the picture above! If you find one of these eggs anywhere in the worlds simply click it (Obviously not an egg someone has already found and placed though :P, if you place these heads they'll be perfectly safe!) and you'll be given that Egg itself as well as a Token to trade in at spawn. You'll be able to use the Tokens for some rare items over the Easter weekend, but not until then; so be sure to keep hold of them and come on next weekend for that! There are lots of different Egg designs to collect, so keep an eye out for all of them!

We'll also be hosting some Easter events over the next week or so keep an eye for announcements regarding them!

I hope you enjoy what we have to offer for Easter this year! Happy Easter!

I managed to go the whole Easter post without any Egg-cellent Egg related puns too!

Server Announcements / Introducing /home wild
« on: 19 Mar 2016, 19:28:27 »
Just a very minor update.

It was requested just under a year ago that we introduce a way for people to use the /home command for getting to a range of different homes including those in the Wilderness and even Towns.

We've now finally added an alias of /wild home [n] you can now use /home wild [n]. With the optional number obviously.

As part of the new upgrade to the Town system that we're working on there may also be the introduction of a way to quickly access your plots, which if added ;) will also have an alias using /home ...

I'm aware that some of you might have manually set a /home wild previously and therefore it now won't work, if you have please just let me know and I'll adjust it so that uses a different name for you :).

I hope you enjoy this small change, if you have any feedback or ideas we'd love to hear them :). The work item regarding this change can be found here.

Server Announcements / Unexpected Downtime
« on: 10 Mar 2016, 18:04:55 »
UPDATE: The server is back online!

Just to let you know that Noobstown.com is currently experiencing some unexpected downtime. The server is currently offline due to what appears to be a problem with the network that the physical machine is on. The team responsible for this are looking into the issue.

I'm very sorry that we're down and have been for sometime today, but we'll be back up as soon as we can be. Updates will be posted/edited once we know more.

The site should be up while these issues are on-going so if you need something to do feel free to make a post or two here :).

Again, sorry, we'll be back up again as soon as possible.

« on: 6 Mar 2016, 09:45:08 »
Just a short update post to say all of the temporary worlds have been reset for March now!

Also just to let you know about the other quest/event related things we're doing this month:
  • The Noobentines Quests have all been released and they'll be available for a while longer, so be sure to complete them if you can get to part 1 using /warp love, part 3 using /warp love2 and the final part using /warp love3. They'll be removed later in the month, so be sure to make the most of them while they're available :).
  • The Top Voters of the Month competition started up again on the 1st, so be sure to vote for a chance to win. Click here for more information about it.
  • Noobstown's 5th Birthday will be later this month, and we've got a party to celebrate it too! Click here for more information.
  • The Easter Quests and events will be coming later this month (very soon they'll begin), so keep an eye out for them too!

I'm personally also working on the new Town System hopefully they'll be more information about this released soon :).

Competitions & Events / Top Voters of the Month! - It's Back!
« on: 28 Feb 2016, 15:00:32 »

Just an update letting you all know we're bringing back the Top Voters of the Month competition each month again! (Work item). Starting from next month (From the 1st of March) the Top 10 voters within each month will receive themselves one of the prizes below!

For those who are new and aren't aware how this works, if you vote using your Minecraft name at noobs.town/pmc once each day your vote will be recorded (plus you'll earn a straight off 2,500Nbz just for it). At the end of the month we'll then calculate up how many votes you've made and put you up against every else's scores, the top 10 players (the ones who voted the most within the month) will then receive a bonus of the amounts below depending on your position in the list! If you tie with someone else we'll use a random number generator to pick who gets what spot.

Rank 1 - 100,000Nbz
Rank 2 - 80,000Nbz
Rank 3 - 60,000Nbz
Rank 4 - 50,000Nbz
Rank 5 - 40,000Nbz
Rank 6 - 30,000Nbz
Rank 7 - 25,000Nbz
Rank 8 - 20,000Nbz
Rank 9 -  15,000Nbz
Rank 10 - 10,000Nbz

We've doubled the rewards since last time too! Plus we're going to introduce a new twist: if you can keep yourself in the top 10 list successively then we'll give you a bonus of 10,000Nbz for each successive month you stay in there! So if you are in the list one month, and you stay in it the next month you'll get 10,000Nbz on top of the other prize listed above; stay in another month you'll get an extra 20,000Nbz, etc.! And we'll be giving away a rare head item in-game for the player who is in the Rank 1 spot each month too!

I hope you like these changes and the fact we've brought this back, your voting really helps so we want to reward you for it. We'll be posting the top voters each month hopefully within the first weekend after each month ends, note though the next month's competition will automatically begin again on the 1st even if we haven't posted about the last month's winners! This starts on Tuesday (1st of March) so we'll be posting the first lot of winners early April!

If you have any questions or comments please let us know!

Thanks,
The Noobscraft Team!

Server Announcements / Minecraft 1.9 on Noobstown
« on: 17 Feb 2016, 21:08:31 »

Just to keep you updated as we try to do before every update to Minecraft this is a short post to let you know about our plans regarding the impending release of Minecraft 1.9 and how it will work with Noobstown. This isn't a post about any specific changes, just about our plan for 1.9!

Mojang announced earlier today that 1.9 will likely be released next week on Thursday the 25th of February. We obviously will not be upgrading the server to 1.9 at this time so please DO NOT UPDATE YOUR MINECRAFT CLIENT(S) or select specifically to continue playing in 1.8.9 if you want to continue playing on Noobstown. We will eventually be working to open in 1.9 but this isn't likely to be happening immediately so please if you want to continue playing on Noobstown don't update until we announce it is possible to do so. (You updating and not connecting to Noobstown because of this will not be an excuse for your land to not be cleared.)

Minecraft 1.9 contains an enormous number of changes which are likely to dramatically effect how things function (even if to you it might not look like anything has changed, how the server deals with some of these changes is going to involve a lot of work). As a result a large number of the plugins we use will likely need some drastic updates to continue to work with the updated interactions, transportation, items and world locations 1.9 has to offer. We obviously don't want to update only for it to be extremely buggy and for issues to arise.

Our plan is to wait until we have a stable version of our server software and all of the important plugins we use have been updated. Previously this has on occasion taken multiple months; it will however become our primary focus once 1.9 is released. I'm going to be honest here; this change is likely to break a lot of the existing code we use and therefore this update is probably going to take just as long and possibly longer than ones have previously.

In regards to updating to Minecraft 1.9 some of the specific points we need to sort out before releasing include (not necessarily in this order, it depends how things work out):
  • Waiting to see if there is an update which is safe/stable enough allowing you to connect to Noobstown using a 1.9 client but without any of the features of 1.9 (just like we did with 1.8 ).
  • Waiting until a suitable development version of our server software is released to the point where we can work on upgrading our own custom plugins.
  • Upgrading all of our critical custom plugins, including: the current Wilderness system, several chat features, the entity/mob limiting system, account management systems, etc.
  • Waiting for stable updates to the third party plugins (ones we don't develop ourselves) we currently use, including Towny (unless it takes ages in which case we might just jump to the new Town system but no promises on that), mcMMO, LWC, etc. and then safely testing that these updates haven't broken things for Noobstown and if they have work to on a custom fix.
  • Producing any extra plugins/protections for things which have been added in 1.9 but which we don't want to allow until we can protect against griefing/theft etc. A list with more details about this is likely to be released in the future.
  • Updating the non-critical custom plugins we use, such as: the items gained from events, the drop party system, Snowball, etc.
  • Waiting until there is then a stable version of the server software which is suitable to be played on, and then testing this with all of the plugins we normally use.

Please be aware as explained previously in the post this update is likely to take sometime, and therfore don't update your Minecraft clients until we've said it's suitable to do so if you want to continue playing on Noobstown!

I hope you're excited about what is to come for Noobstown though.

Server Announcements / Announcement Announcements!
« on: 6 Feb 2016, 22:07:19 »

Just a small change...

When we post a new announcement on the site (just like this topic) if you don't read it we'll now let you know every so often in-game that it was made! Once every hour in-game we'll send you a short reminder that there are announcements you haven't read yet; it's that simple!

This should be great for those who don't often visit the site as you'll now know exactly when important new announcements have been posted, and it will allow you to easily keep up-to-date with changes that are happening! This feature might even be expanded on in the future to show more information about exactly what was posted, but for now it's just to let you know to check the site!

I hope you like this change, but as always if you have any feedback good or bad on this or have any questions too please post them.

Server Announcements / Town Commands Everywhere!
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 18:51:54 »

Just another small update to let you know that changes made to the server yesterday have meant that /town and /t commands are now possible in all worlds and not just the town one!

You can now get to your town spawn, view a list of the towns and almost all town commands anywhere on Noobstown! The commands themselves haven't changed; the change is that you can do them anywhere now!

We are still working on a new version of the Town system, but this change is for between now and then :D.

Again I hope this is useful. If you've got any questions please let me know.

If you notice any issues with this change you must report them.

Server Announcements / Disable Tips
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 03:50:22 »

For quite some time a number of you have been asking us if there would be a way to toggle whether or not tips were shown for you! Well today we've introduced that! Using /tips off you can turn off tips just for yourself, so you'll not see them anymore :D. If you then want to turn them back on just use /tips on.

This is just a small change but quite a few people had asked for it; I hope you enjoy.

You can see the work item here: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/toggle-tips/.

267

As you are probably aware: for quite sometime now we've had a lot of different plans going at once. It has lead to some delays in the development as the work has been spread out rather than focusing on one project to completion. We've had lots of great suggestions and bugs reported to us and we plan to implement/fix a large number of them. Sadly because of how we operate I'm the only person available to directly develop these changes for Noobstown and as a result they're likely to take time to be slowly added. It is because of this delay that I've created a new feature for you to let us (mainly me, but the rest of the team too) know which of things you'd like to see sooner!

By visiting www.noobscraft.com/work and voting on things you can let me and the rest of the team know what work items you'd actually like to see sooner and also things which aren't quite as important for now. The plan is for me to work on things which are higher up the list until they're complete and then slowly work down; as things get completed they'll be removed from this list.

When you visit the page it might seem quite confusing but it's really quite simple. Each possible work item is listed on the page (ordered by items you've not voted on first, then by the current score it has). Clicking on the item will expand it to view the full description as well as any details about it. To the left of each item is an option for you to vote that item up or down:

It will expand the up/down arrow to allow you to pick whether you want to give between +3 and -3 to the score. Your choice of score should be based on whether you'd like to see it being worked on sooner or later (Not based on whether you agree with the idea, everything listed is definitely coming it's just a matter of time), so if you want to see it sooner give it a positive amount and then items which can wait longer give a lower amount.

You might think just giving everything the maximum or same amount is going to speed things up, but that's not going to help, if you do so you'll effectively be wasting your votes; I can only work on one thing at a time so just voting everything up or down won't effect the order. Try to give items a mix of points depending on what you'd honestly like to come sooner.

You're free to change your vote at any time so don't worry about that. Plus the score will never go below 0; so if you give it a negative amount that will simply negate any positive points which might be added in the future if it's below 0. If you want to see the order of the items update after you've voted simply reload the page.

As more suggestions come in I'll be adjusting the list as well as posting updates here and directly to the work items on that page, so be sure to keep checking it for updates. For now if you've suggested something or reported something which we agreed would be added and don't see it listed please let me know and I'll add it to the list. Some items have been merged together since they're quite small so be aware of that too.

If there is anything you don't quite understand listed on the page or how it works please just ask and I'll adjust the wording or explain it again.

The link again is: www.noobscraft.com/work.

We look forward to your feedback,
- The Noobscraft Team

A quick update post about things going on in Noobstown right now, and looking into the future generally...

Worlds
We've reset the Mining World, the Nether and the End for January!

Coming Soon...
We have lots of great plans for this next year, and we look forward to showing them off as they come (things do take time to make so it won't all be happening overnight :D). There will be some features coming really soon (that's actually soon, not a normal "Noobstown really soon" :P) allowing you to decide the plans for what we should be focusing on. Exact details of that will all be explained when it's released.

Theme of the Month
This month we don't really have an exact theme as such, but we'll be continuing on from last month with a Winter theme; there will be some unscheduled events over this month so be sure to be online to get a chance to take part and the quests from Noobmas will be around a bit longer. We'll go back to a proper theme in February!

Server Announcements / Looking Back on 2015!
« on: 2 Jan 2016, 22:03:26 »
Just like we did last year we've compiled some possibly interesting facts from the past year of Noobstown and the Noobscraft community. (Some of these were taken from just before this post was published so would include any changes made in the first 40ish hours of 2016)

Noobstown Statistics 2015:

  • We ended the year with 40,784 registered members!
  • Nearly 7,000 new players visited us for the first time.
  • 2,055 new Members joined us. That's almost 1 in every 3 who visited us for the first time!
  • Over 8,000 existing members visited us at some point during the year!
  • Over 11 years worth of time was spent by all people playing on Noobstown put together!
  • We ended the year with everyone as a total having 868,273 mcMMO levels. That's nearly 400,000 more added!
  • The year ended with the server economy having over 400,000,000Nbz! More than doubling in 2015 compared to 2014! 84% of this being owned by players.
  • The top 10 richest players had over 35% of the whole server economy.
  • We saw the most people on the server at 8:33 PM on the 19th of September!

  • The year ends with 37 towns, and 4 nations.

  • /ch g was the second most used valid command, but it was used just 105,338 times.
  • The /home options were used 280,578 times. The homes 'storage', 'wild' and 'w' were the most commonly used after the defaults 'home' and 'bed', you do know you can do /wild home [n] right?

  • A total of 8,558,501 items were crafted in 2015!
  • Under 50,000 items broke though! That's less than half 2014's amount! (49,711 to be exact)
  • By the end of the year items were used. 102,824,247 in 2015; beating 2014 by nearly 10,000,000! That's more using items but less breaking; on the ball in 2015?

  • More than 105,000,000 hearts of damage were dealt by players! That's more than 5 times as many as in 2014. It's also more than was dealt! (Enough to kill over 10,000,000 Zombies!)

Hopefully you at least found some of those interesting! You can view some of these statistics plus thousands of others at https://www.noobscraft.com/gamestats/ and https://www.noobscraft.com/stats/.

We hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! And we also hope you're looking forward to what is going to be a great year for Noobstown and the Noobscraft community!

Server Announcements / Multiple Account Important Information
« on: 30 Dec 2015, 19:58:06 »
Due to the recent actions of certain players we'd like to reiterate some specifics in regards to those who have/use multiple accounts. If you don't use more than one account and never intend to this is mostly irrelevant to you.

On Noobstown we allow people who own multiple Minecraft accounts to connect to them individually and play on each independently; we'll treat each account as its own entity and as such they'll all be entitled to take part in our events and claim prizes. That's irrespective of if the same person is playing on many different accounts.

We have however never allowed people to connect to Noobstown using accounts which they do not own; the use of accounts which you do not own is not only against the Noobstown rules; but can be considered illegal in certain places including the UK, the EU, and the USA. If you are caught using an account which you do not own we will act.

As a result of the actions of certain individuals recently we're therefore also introducing a new policy regarding the number of accounts which can connect from the same household in a period of time. This limit is more than enough for any legitimate user to have their whole family play together; if you aren't abusing it's extremely unlikely you'll ever notice this change. If however you reach this limit you (and every account you have ever connected with) will be automatically be banned from the server and we will investigate your account activity and act accordingly.

If you have recently been using accounts which you do not have appropriate access to (and we haven't already been in contact) now is your final chance to own up through PMing me on the site. If you're caught from this point onwards the action will be more serious.

If you are simply playing with accounts you or your family own then there isn't anything you need to worry about; this change is to tackle those abusing the rules and to ensure everyone is aware of our stance. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please contact me or reply and I'll be sure to answer; we don't want you to be concerned.

Server Announcements / Gifting is Back! And it's Improved!
« on: 20 Dec 2015, 14:15:12 »
/gift is now back on Noobstown!

You've been asking for it for months now and we've finally brought back a new form of gifting just in time for Noobmas! You can now use /gift [name] again to send gifts to other players in-game. This time it uses a slightly different (but hopefully nicer) way to collect though.

Each player can now receive 54 gifts at once without having to collect them (that's a possible of over 93,000 items which could be waiting for them)! When you send a gift just use /gift [name] and it will open an extra inventory on top of yours, put any items you want to send to the user in there and then close your inventory; they'll automatically then be sent to that user. You can now sent up to 5 gifts to each player without them having to collect any from you!

To collect a gift you've received just do /gift collect. This will open a new menu which lists all of the gifts you've received! Just find the one you're looking for (most recent ones are shown first) and click on the sender's head to claim it; the items they sent will then be passed on to your real inventory! It's that simple! There is no extra chest like previously.

We were aware with the old system that people often received gifts annoyingly from players they didn't want to. So now you can block a player from sending you gifts; just use /gift block [name] and they won't be able to send you anymore gifts!

If you believe you had items left from the previous gifting system which you never collected please PM me, and I'll transfer it over to the new system for you!

I hope you all really enjoy this change, we know people loved the old system and hopefully this one will be even better! If you've got any questions or ideas regarding this just respond! If you notice any bugs with it you must report them.

Server Announcements / Town Money Issues - Fixed!
« on: 4 Dec 2015, 21:22:55 »
Just a quick update regarding a recent bug fix. Earlier today you may have noticed that the balances within certain towns changed slightly. This is because we've rectified an issue which causes town balances to be frozen for the last week or so.

Any towns which spent money during this time have now correctly had that money withdrawn and those towns where the balance should have increased due to income or depositing have had their money correctly increased. The balances are effectively now correct to what they should have been had the bug never existing. Just to keep you updated.

This fix also sorts out any issues players have been reporting with /town deposit and /town withdraw.

If you notice any further issues or questions regarding this please let me know. Sorry for any problems the issue may have caused at the time, it is now sorted.
