Tried to vote today and the link doesn't take you to PMC anymore?  Just wondering.
Voting is currently not available, no rewards will be given for voting at the moment. It is my intention to bring it back, hopefully soon; once it's back there will be an update posted on the site.

Competitions & Events / The Royal Quest: Pirates!
« on: 3 Jun 2018, 16:44:46 »

Now that the king is cured, he wants you to find out what those evil pirates are up to! Can you discover the secrets of the pirates, and maybe even save the world?

The next instalment of KilljoyDivine and cruisinkiy's Royal Quest is now available (with parts built by doc_engie)! You can begin the quest as usual at /warp theme, plus to get the Tokens you'll need to complete it use /kit theme (you can do this once each day to complete all the different parts).

You might also find some other fun surprises while this quest is ongoing too!

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Top active players
« on: 2 Jun 2018, 11:35:53 »
I was wondering if it's possible to see the most active players in the stats or something. I do feel like I've got a general idea but it's still something I'd like to see.
This is something I am working on for a while now; to do this I'm having to change many things behind-the-scenes so that we can calculate things easily on a month-by-month basis, which is why it's not been released quite yet. It'll be a range of monthly specific stats which you'll be able to view progress on throughout the month and then earn rewards if you're in the top few each month, a bit like the top voters but for many other things too!

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: /visit top
« on: 2 Jun 2018, 11:28:25 »
...i had an idea for the /visit commands maby have a /visit top that will show the 10 most visited visits so new player  and old can find the most visited areas that could be gd shops or even grinders for xp or to nice builds and maby have it reset every month so new visits can pop up from time to time
I can definitely see the reasoning behind the idea, but not sure if that'd be a great way to allow people to find good visits.
  • People could potentially manipulate the results by visiting someone multiple times just to push a certain other player up the ranks.
  • If you get a list of player names it doesn't necessarily help with figuring out what the reason would be for visiting that player. It could be that they've got a cool build that's been shown off a lot, or could be a shop, or a grinder, etc.. If these could be differentiated somehow I think it'd be much more useful.
  • It's not very fair on person 11+ in the list, they'll get no exposure and because the top 10 are being promoted it's likely they'd just push themselves further and further away from person 11+ for that month.

I like the idea of promoting popular places, but not sure of a great way to implement that; if you've got an idea which might combat some of those things I'd love to hear it.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Ender dragon xp
« on: 2 Jun 2018, 11:22:17 »
I think we should get more xp for killing the ender dragon like the actual cost that you get that'd make it more worth while to kill it
We're not doing anything special here to limit the amount of XP the dragon drops. The only difference on Noobstown is that it drops all of the XP in a single blob rather than spreading it around in a big area.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Emeralds
« on: 2 Jun 2018, 11:20:29 »
I think you should get more money when you sell emeralds to /shop because 30Nbz really shouldn't be enough for how rare they are something like 100Nbz and 110Nbz(for VIPs)
And for the ores 120Nbz and 125Nbz(for VIPs)
Seems like a fair suggestion, I've doubled both the gem and ore price just now to 60Nbz (and 80Nbz for VIP+). I'll review how this change seems in the future and potentially make further changes.

I agree that the lottery isn't as good as I'd like it to be. It is my intention to improve it, I've created a work item for this: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/improve-lottery/.

Server Announcements / Shop Auto-Sell
« on: 28 May 2018, 20:02:19 »

As promised in Saturday's Shop Update, further changes have been made to /shop:

You now have the ability to purchase an upgrade for almost every sell-able item, to enable that item to be automatically sold as you pick it up off the ground!

How it works
To use auto-sell you must first buy the upgrade by clicking the emerald in the /shop menu under the specific item you want to enable auto-sell for. This will then unlock a new option which allows you to toggle whether or not that item will automatically be sold as you pick it up off the floor, with the money automatically going into your balance. There is no extra cost if you disable and then want to re-enable; the only cost is the initial unlock of the feature for each item.

Things to note:
  • Having auto-sell enabled will prevent you from being able to pick up any of that item type; once picked up it'll immediately be sold.
  • You should still be able to hold that item in your inventory if you pick it from a chest, etc. it'll only automatically sell if picked up from the ground. But be warned if you drop it, it might automatically sell!
  • You won't get updates on how much money you're making, because of the frequency of things it'll just automatically be added to your balance. If you need to keep an eye on earnings you should use the manual selling instead.
  • Different items cost different amounts to unlock, you can see the price if you hover over the item and in the purchase confirmation menu.

I really hope this feature proves useful and you enjoy it, let me know of any feedback; good or bad. If you need things explaining further or want any help just ask too!

Server Announcements / Re: mcMMO Changes & More
« on: 25 May 2018, 17:53:50 »
" I'm open to feedback about this"

When you hit four bits of sand and you get 0 0 0 and then 1 exp..

Then your exp rate might as well be 0 :)
...
The point of the change is that once you've gained a certain amount of XP in a certain skill in a particular time frame then you'll not be able to gain anymore until enough time elapses.

I have however now just dramatically increased the limits on all skills, it's not my intention for it to be a thing you even notice in normal gameplay. The change I've just made will take effect after the server restart tomorrow morning, let me know how it is after that point.

Server Announcements / Re: mcMMO Changes & More
« on: 25 May 2018, 16:08:29 »
Based on some of the feedback I've received I have now adjusted a few things further. Let me know how you feel about it.

Some of the changes are a bit questionable :)
getting 0 and 1 once in a while on every skill ..
This is an intended change to encourage levelling of a variety of skills. In a particular time frame you are now limited in how much XP you can earn per skill. Think of it as a timeout once you've just done a lot of levelling. The time frame is pretty short so you should be able to switch do doing something else for a short period and then go back to the skill you were levelling up before. As with all of these changes I'm open to feedback about this; the intention is that should be unlikely to hit these limits if doing a normal amount of levelling each skill. I'll see how others feel about it, or if they're even hitting the limits.

288
I have now changed the limits on using punctuation so you should be able to say more without it flagging up for too many non-alphanumeric characters. https://www.noobscraft.com/server/mcmmo-changes-more/

Let me know if this is any better, or if you're still having problems.

This has not made any changes to the frequency of the same message limits.

Server Announcements / mcMMO Changes & More
« on: 19 May 2018, 14:39:47 »

Earlier today I made several changes to mcMMO, hopefully positive adjustments to experience gains for the different skills. This included fixing gaining mcMMO XP for herbalism and alchemy; which you should now be able to do for both skills.

As with all changes I am open to feedback and if you decide the changes haven't been positive I'm open to reviewing them again.

To celebrate the return of herbalism and alchemy it'll be 2x mcMMO for the rest of the weekend!

In other news you can now ride natural horses, mules, llamas, etc. without them immediately disappearing once you dismount them! This also means you can now level taming using those natural animals too.

The chat filter has also been updated now to hopefully allow a little more wiggle-room with punctuation.

Hopefully you'll enjoy these things, but if you've got any honest feedback regarding any of these changes (good or bad) please let me know.

Noobstown General / Re: What's in your wilderness?
« on: 17 May 2018, 18:09:13 »
My main area of Wilderness has a large (unfinished) auto-sorter, it's too big to include just a single screenshot, but here is a random section of it:

Here it is from the outside on the live map:

It's got enough space to hold all of the current stackable items in the game, plus some leftover space. It's all inside a structure to allow me to easily get access to the different items; plus has indicators to show when I'm lacking in certain items. I'm been working on it slowly for years now.

I'm currently focusing on sorting out a giant hole to build a really big bedrock to sky structure in it, it currently looks like:

And on the live map:

Here is a simple mock up of how I imagine it'll look once done:

I've also got lots of other little projects both within those areas and scattered around the place. :P

291
...
I was asking to give us more wiggle room, not to tighten up the censorship :D

It seems when players join for example and we say, welcome, .. or wb, or when they say bye and we say bye.. that we now get told that it's not allowed because it's been said too much recently.
...

It seems I am not the only one that noticed this happening
Nothing has changed to the chat system yet. The thing you're experiencing has been a feature on the server for ages now (literally years), it's designed to prevent spam of the same message multiple times in a row without much else being said.

If a certain percentage out of of the recent previous chat messages is the same thing then it'll stop you from saying it again. By multiple people saying "wb" and then not much other chat going on, this becomes an abnormally frequent message being sent, and that results in the server considering it as spam; as I'd expect it to.

I checked the logs for the instance you provided the screenshot for, and it was only blocking "wb" because it was the only thing said 1 in 5 times for several minutes. I think the same message 1 in 5 times is considered spam.

To combat this there are two really simple options:
  • You can say another greeting; for example "hello", "hey", "hi", "welcome", "welcome back", "nice to see you again", etc. even just "wb!" would do it. Literally anything else but the exact message that has already been sent several times.
  • Chat more! If more other chat happens between the different messages then when it goes to check for potential spam the frequency of "wb" will be less as a percentage of the other general conversation, and as such it won't be considered spam.

It's a feature designed to prevent spam and especially bots from ruining gameplay by over-using the same messages; something I'm sure people would appreciate. If this becomes clearly annoying I can adjust things, but in the case you've given I don't think it's unreasonable for that to be considered in some way spammy. Plus with it being so easy to say something else I don't think it's that much of a problem.

Regarding your original request to reduce the sensitivity of the punctuation warning, that is a change that will be happening in the next few days.

292
...
Could we perhaps get a bit more wiggle room on punctuation?
...
Sure, I can look at the settings and allow more. Just for confirmation so that I can check things are suitably adjusted, what sort of sentence(s) were you trying to send that was being blocked?

Server Announcements / Mining World, Nether and End Reset!
« on: 10 May 2018, 16:56:39 »

The Mining World, Nether and End temporary worlds have been reset.

This time we're going to see if we can keep these worlds running for a little longer than in the past; the next reset will be planned for August/September (a more firm time will be announced closer to then). To allow you to keep exploring throughout the months and to keep fresh things going, the spawns will keep changing as per the recent change to randomise them, plus all three worlds now have a border that will slowly expand and will do so for the duration of the worlds. The worlds should end up massive by the the time it comes to reset again, so there should be loads of exploring to do (including the elusive woodland mansions ;)). If it's decided that this is too long for the worlds, then we can review the duration at the time of the next reset :).

I hope you enjoy this; if you've got any feedback, as always let me know.

...Do we really need a special date, or some event before double exp could be rewarded?

Therefor, on behalf of those who have been putting in the hours, vote daily, actively participate, and have been helping to push the server to daily activity again. I hereby kindly ask to indeed please consider rewarding us by making that playtime a  little bit more fun.

Double Exp this weekend maybe?
The increase in players has been great to see, I agree it'd be nice to reward everyone who is online and playing.

I have previously done random moments of bonus mcMMO XP because of the numbers of players online, there is no plan for me to stop doing that, I'm not sure if you've been online for them, but it's something I have done on many occasions.

As for this weekend, I'm sure something can be arranged ;).

Noobstown General / Re: Discord...
« on: 8 May 2018, 21:46:18 »
Mainly a question for Larry. but Id like opinions, I have a discord server for gaming, am I allowed to link it in game to get people to chat on it, TS, is getting outdated and most just use Discord anymore. thanks let me know.
I'd prefer you to stick to our TeamSpeak server if possible. You're obviously entitled to communicate with people elsewhere, but it's recommended to use our TeamSpeak for Noobstown chat.

Can I ask what about TeamSpeak you consider worse than Discord? What's the benefit of Discord? If the reasoning sounds good I can look into it for the server, but it's something I've never used so wondered why it was more popular so suddenly.

299
I can understand your frustration with some of these things, it is only a small team with people asking a lot. I am trying to work on things to improve gameplay for the current features we have currently got working rather than adding (or re-adding) features. I feel as though a smaller number of great features is better than loads of things that don't quite work properly or aren't up to a great standard. Maybe I'm taking the wrong path, but it's the path I decided to take, if you think this should be re-thought and can express good reasoning then I'm open to change.

...
Build a dark room: We cannot: The mobs are so ridiculously nerfed that the game runs in peaceful mode, nothing spawns anymore. There's no dark room on the server that spawns more than 5. Want a screenshot from Dracomere from few years ago vs today? #chernobylEmpty
...
The reduction in mobs was part of the attempts to try and combat lag on the server. This is something that should now be solved in other ways hopefully; I've therefore adjusting the spawning rates back to their previous settings. This doesn't necessarily mean there will be similar levels of spawning to previously, because of the way spawning works has changed in the game itself, but if it's still no good I can adjust things further. Let me know how it is.

...
- Where's the casino
...
The casino was removed as part of our previous jump up from 1.8 to 1.12, it was decided that it was more sensible to simply remove certain features that would have delayed the update, rather than waiting. This is something that I would like to re-introduce, but the previous system we used hasn't been updated to work properly with 1.12, and as such it's something I'd have to make from scratch. I've created a work item for this at: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/reintroduce-casino/

...
- Why can't I ride a horse
...
- Why does the /h randomly despawn, can't i just tame horses
...
I'm not aware of reasons as to why you can't ride horses, you should be able to spawn using the /horses command, and ride those? I'm aware of the issue with them disappearing once you dismount them; this is no longer an intended feature and is something I am going to stop happening. I have created a work item to work on this: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/stop-horses-despawning-on-dismount/

...
- Why do my mobs despawn
...
Mobs despawning is a part of the game, it's just what happens to them to prevent the world becoming cluttered with them and to allow further mobs to spawn. You can read more about it here: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Spawn#Java_Edition_2. The despawning that happens on Noobstown is again following that, but we also limit things per player/area to further ensure that mobs will fairly spread out for all players. As explained about though I have now adjusted the spawning limits so this should be nicer than it was before.

...
- Can I breed animals
...
Yes, as long as you don't have too many other animals right nearby. There is a limit to the number you can have in an area, once that limit is reached you won't be able to breed anymore. To combat this you can move the animals further away or kill off some of the others nearby.

...
- Why do my grinders not work
...
As explained above I have now adjusted the spawning limits and rules so they should work slightly better than before now. There were however changes made to the game itself which were designed to adjust how mobs spawn, including reductions in mob grinders working. It's more fair for everyone if mobs are able to spawn freely around the world, rather than like crazy in a small spot where no combat is required.

...
- Do they still have the cube
- Is there still the sandpit
...
- Do we still do boat races
- When's the next horse race
...
These games which used to be ran by the admins can still exist, they just haven't taken place for a while. I have no direct issues with doing them again, and during previous events last year we did do some. I will admit we've been lacking in staff ran events recently, but this is because I've prioritised features which can improve gameplay for all, over running events which impact only those online at the time. With the lower player numbers it is also difficult to arrange events to happen at a time when we can get enough people for it to be competitive. So while we aren't doing them consistently like we have previously, they're definitely not gone forever, and will happen again during some of the bigger events of the year.

Things like the boat races or horse races could be done by yourselves though, there is nothing preventing you from using the boat and race tracks in the Town World spawn at /warp town or even building your own tracks.

...
- Anything to explore at spawn
...
The area you spawn in now has changed to make it easier to quickly get where you need to be, and to be less confusing for new players. It was purposefully changed to have less exploring options. You can still explore the old spawn in the Town World at /warp town though.

We've also got loads of towns with great builds to explore, that you can freely go to and look around.

...
- Where is the market at spawn
...
The spawn doesn't have a market area, it's simply a place allowing you to get to other worlds. The old spawn in the Town World does still have its market area with villager trades, that hasn't moved.

It's recommended that you trade with other players directly though, you'll get much better deals.

...
- Will there be another archeology month
...
The themed months will happen on occasion again, it's again another question of focusing on features which only exist for a short period or working on longer-term things that'll be around for ages. I agree that the months such as archaeology were great fun though. We've still done things like this, if you go back just a few weeks for example we did the Easter Egg Hunt. Was there something about the archaeology month you specifically liked that wasn't achieved in the Easter Egg Hunt?

...
- Where's the pvp arena at spawn
...
The spawn doesn't have a PVP arena. You can PVP almost anywhere now, including if you were to build your own arena.

...
- When will mob arena be back
...
This is a question I get a lot, and unfortunately there isn't a positive answer. We don't and never did make the system which allowed for mob arena to happen, the maps were made for Noobstown and we produced the ranks, etc., but the system which allowed it all to happen together wasn't made by us. The team behind the system don't update it as frequently as I'd like and has been known to have major bugs again and again, I don't want to introduce features which aren't stable enough, and as such I've held off on reintroducing this. It will come back either once it's considered stable enough, or once I have the opportunity to produce our own system which can be properly locked down.

...
- Can I have a drop party for my town
...
I've not heard this question before. You could create a system to do a drop party in your own Town quite easily using hoppers and droppers.

...
- Can I fish at spawn area
...
I wasn't aware that fishing wasn't possible in the spawn world. This is something I will have to look into, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to fish there.

...
- Fishing tournament with mods
...
There's no real reason why these can't happen at the moment, it just requires some organisation to get them going. I will see how we can work towards getting the events which mods can organise more regular.

...
- What happened to the v5 museum
...
The world was removed almost two years ago now, it was always planned to be a temporary feature, and the usage when it was removed was minimal.

...
- Did they celebrate 7 years noobscraft and did i miss it
...
Unfortunately we didn't, due to other commitments I was unable to do our annual celebrations at the right time. It is now my plan to do an extra big celebration relating to this during the Summer to try and make up for it.

...
- My pet does not work
...
This is something you've brought up previously here: https://www.noobscraft.com/idea/suggestion-pets-and-horses/. As I explained there I aware of the issues with pets, and have created a work item to work on solving them: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/fix-pets/

...
- I can't name tag mobs, they despawn
...
You can put name tags on mobs and animals, but they do despawn, that is correct. There would be no sensible way for us to allow you to keep mobs if they had a name tag, it would be extremely unreasonable to guarantee that any named mob or animal will never despawn. We try to be fair to all players, and ensuring that there is the possibility for animals and mobs to spawn for everyone is something I want to maintain. Mobs and animals which are named still contribute to the server's mob cap, we can't have the world being filled with mobs and animals that can never despawn because it would block the spawning if new mobs and animals for other players. There isn't some sort of evil option that we will always despawn your named mobs/animals though, it is based on loads of factors when the server decides to despawn an entity, and this will occasionally hit named ones.

Again if you maintain a lower number of animals and spread them out over a bigger area this will reduce those chances, but there is no way to guarantee it unfortunately. If you've got any ideas to combat this in a way that would be fair and couldn't be abused I'd be open to hearing it though.

...
- When is the next quest
...
As KilljoyDivine explained, the next part of the Royal Cure quest is in the works.

...
- What about chunk of the month
...
Chunk of the Month has become quite an issue for me to consistently keep going. I will admit it's been handled poorly by myself, and as such I feel like it would be unfair to keep it up in its current state at the moment with the possibility for it to go on like it has in the past. I am logistically working out on a nice way that the rest of the staff team could judge the entries and impartially pick a winner; once that has been sorted I would like a building contest of some sort to return.

...
But right now the server is basically survival and mining for hours to pay for 20k/ town plots (after 32% nation discount)  so you can pay for plots and work hard on making things pretty because you're fighting with 45 other abandoned towns to get the 1 new player a week.
...
I can understand your feelings about this, you can focus on whatever you want to on the server; you're choosing to go down the town route, and I appreciate the work involved though. There are changes in the works to try and reduce the number of inactive Towns including your suggestion about taking over them (https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/takeover-inactive-towns/); but like everything, the improvements won't happen overnight. Your goals for town gains need to remain realistic with the current player numbers though; I appreciate that might not be the most diplomatic answer, but it's the honest situation at the moment; there are lots of towns competing for the players, that's part of the game. For now just work as best as you can on what you want and hopefully we'll all see things improve.

...
I hope these questions get a generic response of: I hope to introduce more rpg/mmo features (back) into the game this big summer upgrade. Because we understand that variety in game play as well as offering team-work features can bring players together and online more often, which helps the server grow. And that's really what we want here. Build a community.

Standing alone in an empty dark room hearing crickets isn't going to cut it.
...
I have always tried to provide useful, honest and open answers to questions and suggestions, I'm sorry if you don't feel like that's happened as well as it could have.

I believe we do still have a community at the moment; it is my intention to bring back a bigger sense of it back though, and I have seen recently you've been pushing towards that, I appreciate your contribution to it. The work moving forwards isn't going to happen overnight or even in a few weeks, they're long term goals. Noobstown is great fun for me to work on, I am not going to purposefully try to ruin things; and because of this I don't want to rush things through just because it might increase player numbers in the short-term.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: [Suggestion] Seasonal World Resets
« on: 3 May 2018, 20:52:36 »
I dunno about seasonal resets. While there's still plenty of space for gathering resources, many of the generated structures (villages, strongholds, fortresses, End cities etc) get discovered and looted well before a month has gone by.  For those of us who enjoy exploring to find such things, the monthly reset timing is a welcome thing.

I've been trying to go out further in the End, but its kinda hard to tell which way is which, and all but one of the cities I've found were already picked over.  :(
As suggested above it is the plan that once the worlds reset they will slowly expand over time to allow you to explore further out and to experience new areas which aren't yet explored; including finding End cities, villages, fortresses, etc. to loot.

You'll still be able to keep exploring and finding things, but it'll be a more constant option rather than something you might prefer to do quickly in the first few days of the world.

Hopefully it's something that will work for the better; but if things don't go too well and it turns out to not be as good as the more often resets, then I'm open to changing things again down the line :).
