Suggestions & Ideas / Re: /beacon on/off
« on: 14 Aug 2015, 03:31:33 »
Here is another approach (or 2) to controlling beacons, but I don't know the technical s. If I place water or lava near the edge of my plot, and it flows to the border, it just...stops at the border. Could the beacon effect be controlled in the same way?

or

using the safety check idea of  /visit, when activating a beacon, a check is performed. If the beacon effects extend past the owner's plots, the beacon does not activate.

Just a couple more ideas.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Wild Chunks price
« on: 6 Jul 2015, 21:54:03 »
When I sold off a group of chunks, the price of my next chunk was much lower. (price dropped from 250k to about 50k). Maybe what you are seeing is the fee that comes from buying a non-attached chunk. The first chunk you bought for free so you would not have noticed the not-attached fee.

I'm so excited! Fishing! 40k members! Chunk of the Month! 4X Mcmmo skills! Yup, my plans have changed as well! (wasn't building a town, but plans have changed!) The only monkey wrench for me is I work. Oh well. I'll still have fun! BTW, who is Taylor Swift? 3:)

Guides / Re: Noobscraft for Newcomers
« on: 27 May 2015, 06:13:07 »
”Hey, I’m new to this server-what do I do?”

Is a question most of us have asked or seen in chat. It’s also difficult to give a good answer in chat so here goes an overall look and tutorial for Noobstown.

How is this server set up?

Noobstown is a family friendly, vanilla, economy, survival server which means no bad language and no scamming/stealing, you don’t need mods to enjoy Noobstown, you can make money and you can die and lose your stuff. There are 5 different worlds in Noobstown. They are the Town World, Wild World, Mining World, The End and the Nether. Some of these worlds have some different features.
Town World is the world you start playing in. When you join, you will find yourself in wonderful downtown Noobstown. You can go to the live map to find yourself, no meditation needed! Look at the tabs at the top of the page, go to community then live map. Wow! There you are! Want to see who else is where? Hover over the right side of the map and a list of who is on will slide out. Click on a name and the map will jump to that player if they are in the Town or Wild Worlds.

Town World is the world to build/live in a town. You can join a town by asking a mayor or town assistant to join. When you join a town, you get a plot(s) to build on plus access to town amenities. Check out the different towns. There are a lot of towns with different themes and amenities. To visit a town, use /t list while in the Town world to see a list of the towns then /visit [townname] to visit the town. In the town world, you can only build/destroy on your plot. Town is a safe place to build (no creeper assistance!) and keep your valuables. You can buy and build a town for 900,000 noobz (as of May 2015) and approval for your town application in the forums.

The Wild world is the place to go for larger, free form builds with more of a single player (yet still part of the community) Minecraft experience. This is where the creepers will assist you, eagerly and repeatedly. The first step to building your wild home is to find a place to build. Go to the Wild World portal at the Noobstown Palace (/warp palace and jump in the hole to the left) and you will be transported to the wild spawn. Or you can use /wild go   for a random place in the wild. You can use live map to find a place that looks like home. Be careful not to start to close to neighbors since you or your neighbor may want to expand later. You are given 10 chunks (a chunk is 16x16 plot, just like single player) for free as a member, but then you have to pay noobz (the in-game currency) for a chunk, and the price goes up for each additional plot. Keep in mind; these 10 free chunks are a one-time deal. If you use them, decide you don’t want the plots and give up the chunks, the free chunks you used are gone. Also keep in mind as you explore the wild for your new home, you cannot destroy anything, but you can kill mobs and collect their droppings. Once you find your homestead, you can buy the chunk using /wild buy and then /wild buy confirm WOO-HOO! FIREWORKS! Now you can build, destroy, dig, and be creeper hugged. In the mining world and want to go home fast? Use /wild home 1 to teleport to your first chunk. You can use any chunk number you own to teleport home, after a 5 second delay (5 seconds, unless you are VIP, then it’s instant).

Time for the Mining world! You will need stuff to build with. Go to the palace (/warp spawn) and jump into the hole on the right side. No, the other right side. Then run forward into the mining portal! Poof- you’re at the Mining world spawn fortress. See that hole up ahead? Jump in. Really. You’ll be ok. It’s a long drop, but you will land in the water, just be ready to swim up. Head out in any direction to find what you want. “Wait a minute! I can’t mine here! What gives?” You will need to be about 300 blocks from the mining spawn to mine. The mining world is not a good place to build. Your build can be griefed and the mining world resets every month. You are allowed to build, but if you lose something to griefing or the world resets, I’m sorry, but it’s gone.

Ready for the Nether? Or the End?  Use /warp palace and you will see a portal to each. Go through the portal and you will be teleported to your destination! In the Nether, you will find Netherrack, glowstone, quartz, and a little bit of lava. The End features endstone, lots of friendly Endermen, and sometimes a dragon.  You will have to use these portals since dungeons don’t contain working End portals, and you cannot build a Nether portal.

“You said I can make money? How?”  Buy selling stuff! You can sell items to other players in chat, sell to shop or sell in auction. To sell to shop, use /shop and click on the menu to see what shop buys and to sell what you have. To sell in auction, use /auction to put items in the auction chest and use the website to complete the auction process. There is a more complete explanation in the forums. Just remember, once the item is in the auction chest, it must go through auction. The auction chest is not an enderchest.

“What are the ranks I see in chat? Can I be Admin?” Guest is a new player that hasn’t signed up, but go ahead and sign up. It’s easy, free, and unlocks the entire member game experience. Members are guests that have signed up and can join towns, get 10 free wild chunks and more. Veteran is a rank reserved for those who played on V5. V5 was the last version of Noobstown before the current V6. VIP/VIP+ are achieved with a onetime donation to the server. You can read the details under the donate tab. Supporters donated to the server but not for VIP.  Prefect is a chat moderator. Mod is the Moderator (that one was easy!) Prefect and Mod are earned ranks. These positions go to players with a history of active gameplay and being helpful and respectful while they played before being Prefects/Mods. Admins are the administrators/owners of the server and is not available as a rank. They are on a lot and are a great trio! “Can I get fly?” Nope. Not even if you are a reviewer from PlanetMinecraft! Fly isn’t a part of vanilla Minecraft.

“I can die?YES! YOU CAN! That is a fully supported feature here! I can personally say that gravity works. The risk of death and losing everything keeps you on your toes, keeps the game interesting! You can lose your stuff. If lava gets your stuff, I’m sorry, but it is gone. If another player picks your stuff up, they can keep it. Some players will give it back, some won’t, but they don’t have to.
There is a lot more to Noobstown, but maybe this will help you get started. There are more detailed posts in the forums about mining, making money, lists of available commands, etc. Asking in chat can a good place for answers, but keep in mind, if you don’t get an answer, you’re not being ignored-not everybody may know the answer and others may be busy and miss the question in chat. This is a great, mixed community. Male, female, ages 7 to at least 47 ( my wife is 47, lol), some have played here for years, and others have just signed up. Main thing is- play, have fun, and mine safely.

This became longer than I meant for it to be, but hopefully everything is correct. If something is wrong, let me know in response and I’ll correct it. If I missed a good pointer for someone just joining Noobstown, let me know and I’ll add it in.

Server Announcements / Re: Upcoming 1.8 Update
« on: 15 Apr 2015, 17:20:30 »
Just fishing for an update.  :)  I know that there is a lot to be fixed before 1.8 is fully installed, and with legal issues regarding bukkits base code and Microsoft buying Mojang (Will there be a 1.9 I wonder) it could still be a while.  So, how close is Noobstown to having 1.8? (weeks, months, uhhh 1.9 will be here first)Is there any way to add the blocks only (diorite, granite etc). I see why unlockable gates, doors are a problem, but why are slime blocks attaching to their neighbors an issue? (see Larry's OP) Just curious.
Any updated info would be good. I would rather play a stable 1.7.x than a glitchy 1.8.x.  8|

Market Place / Anduril Has been found!
« on: 26 Mar 2015, 04:21:01 »
I was mining in the abandoned Mines of Moria and I found the Sword of Swords! Anduril, the sword that was broken and reforged! As soon as I picked it up, I knew it was special. I carried the sword to Elrond of Rivendell and he told me about the power of the sword. Anduril carries Unbreaking 3, Sharpness 4 ,Fire Aspect 2, Knockback 2 and Looting 2. As he looked over the rest of my find, he noted the other swords and told me that while they were not as powerful as Anduril, they are very useful swords in the right hands. The Pick, he said, was the work of the dwarves of Moria, and upon this pick they placed the power of eternity (unbreaking 3), wealth (Fortune 3), and Power (Efficiency 4).

It has been quite the adventure, starting down the path from my door. On my journey, I passed through the forests of the Western shores and found a bow that sang with power. Not wishing to bother Elrond again, I traveled to Lorien to ask Galadriel about this bow. It was clearly an Elven bow.
She spoke of the battles the bow had seen, and told me that the bow was called Celebithil (moon of Silver) and was last carried by Legolas before he journeyed West over the sea at the beggining of the Age of Men. The bow is enchanted with Infinity 1, Eternity (unbreaking 3), Punch 2 and Power 5. Unfortunately, she told me, the bow does not have Sight, and accuracy is in the eyes and hands of the beholder.

I have placed these items in auction in the hopes that these weapons and tools will find their way into the right hands.

Support / Re: Why can't I craft this?
« on: 21 Mar 2015, 16:01:26 »
Ok, now I am confused. The gates are made with four sticks on the two sides and two wood blocks in the middle. The fences are made with 6 sticks (two rows). That is how I have always made fences.  You used two planks and the fences appeared and vanished? I looked at wiki and that that is what it showed- four blocks/2 sticks.
Is this a new recipe for 1.8? GG's answer makes me think so.
If the recipe changed for fences, are there any other altered recipes?
No, I haven't played 1.8 yet, just a little time in creative.

  CHIME

Noobstown vs Mineapoc in Capture the flag? Saturday nights 6pm? Winning server gets items of value to that server?  Just a thought.  Maybe include creative so the two sides can set traps etc? "Creative" with variable, preset available inventories? Prizes for most kills, highest kill to death ratio, the player who captured the flag? All sorts of possibilities.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: BEACONS IN THE WILD
« on: 10 Feb 2015, 21:24:45 »
Thank you Larry. My wild build plans have gone in a different direction!

Just a thought on the potion effects (I'm not interested in them for my build however). When a player activates the beacon, the server checks the area to be affected by the potion effect. If the entire area is owned by the beacon activator, the potion effects are allowed. If the entire area is not owned by the beacon owner, then no effect.

I don't know if the plugin that itsnotyou mentioned can do this, but it would also be cool if the name of the owner of wild lands appeared over their wild plots.

« on: 27 Jan 2015, 15:21:54 »
ok so is it possible to tell you what were going to change our name to then u go into the plugin and change the username? is that possible or will we have to wait till the plugins get updated

And, if I understand correctly, the names are on a first come, first serve basis (like always) so the name you are going to change to may already be taken leaving your future name reserved in Noobstown for another player.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: BEACONS IN THE WILD
« on: 25 Jan 2015, 17:08:32 »
I would like to see beacons in the wild purely for beauty. I don't mind that they offer a boast, and if they didn't it still wouldn't be a deal breaker. I just want to be able to see my wild home with that shiney blaze of light reaching the for the stars.

"Beacon, oh beacon, where for art thou thy beacon. Deny thy wild and refuse thy claim."

I agree with this. I would like to have a beacon with an upcoming build i have planned, not for the buffs, but for the light. Actually, as I type this, I realize I never tried to set up a beacon in the wild to see if the beacon would light up without the buffs. They will light up with no buffs in the wild...Has anybody tried this? (I know what I will be doing next time I log in.).

mrfloris, you posted while I was doing my post. now I see that the beacon will not light up.

Looking at the live map, with the exception of the area immediately around spawn,  players have spread themselves out so that a beacon on one players plot won't affect another player. Where players are close enough so beacons affect another player, those players are playing together (the area around wild spawn being an unknown for this conclusion). If beacons are allowed in the wild, those around spawn would have to deal with the change like city dwellers deal with early morning traffic waking them up. Not saying if that is good or bad, just saying.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Anti-Sniping on auction
« on: 1 Jan 2015, 03:17:18 »
Yes, the sniping is annoying, but no one has suggested a way to actually control it.

Force a buy out price? Unfair to the seller. No buy-out price is a mixed bag with advantages to the seller and buyer. The whole point of the auction is for the seller to get the highest price while the buyer gets the lowest price possible. Sometimes the price is lower than the seller really expected (has happened to me). Sometimes the buyer gets more than expected (also has happened to me).

How can a reasonable price be set on something that is one of a kind (or one of a limited quantity). For example, how could a reasonable price be set on pet snowmen? You cannot craft it, so cost of materials cannot be used. It provides no benefit, such increased mining ability, to set value on. It is only worth what people bid in auction. Reasonable for rare pets could be said to be around one million (I think that's what an enderman went for.)

If you get out bid at the last second when you would have paid more, shame on you, you should have bid more, but as I said earlier, the goal of an auction is for the buyer to get a great deal so...

...to control the sniping, maybe something could be added into the auction so that a bid in the last minute adds 5 minutes to the time-this gives somebody a second chance to get what they want (and adds another 5 minutes) and gives the seller a better sale. The "fair value" everybody wants will be better reflected this way.

Of course, not matter what is done or not done, somebody will complain about the unfairness of it all.

Just my .01 noob.

Happy mining!

I agree with Twisted. I could have bought one in auction, but I didn't. I really wouldn't like to see them available for 20k(or 100k)-I think the idea of rare pets is really cool. From what I saw at spawn last night, there could be some other rare pets on the way. maybe. I hope. Time to save some noobz, just in case.

Market Place / FOUND! SANTA'S ARMOR!
« on: 20 Dec 2014, 18:31:32 »
I found Santa's Armor while roaming the frozen waste lands of the dreaded Ice Spike Biome in the mining world! It's an unbelievable find. I searched and searched for his sleigh or his house, but I had no luck. Then this morning, I see Santa will be making his rounds and I realized he needs his armor soon, but I couldn't find a way to return his armor. I have posted the armor in auction hoping that Santa will see it or somebody that knows Santa will see it and buy it and return his armor!

How do I know it's Santa's armor? Well, it's red leather, and we all know red is his favorite color and leather fits well under his suit. When you look at it, it shimmers with enchantment, and let me tell you about the enchantments! These enchants were revealed to me by a magic polar bear, and this is what he told me:

"This armor was enchanted just for St. Nicholas. The power is amazing, and suits his needs well. Let me tell you about each piece:
The hat is Unbreaking 3, (to last and last) Respiration 3 (in case the ice breaks under his sleigh, or a 747 runs him out of the sky- the air space around New York and London is insane) and Fire Protection 3 (many people have a HOT fireplace when he visits)
The Vest and Pants are also Unbreaking 3 and Fire Protection 3.
The Boots are Unbreaking 3, Feather Falling 3 (That helps him get down the chimney safely!) and Protection 3 (for added padding and warmth!)

Treat these items well, and please do what you must to return these items to Santa. I am sorry I can not help you find Santa, but you know he is watching."

And laying his finger paw aside of his nose
And giving a nod, up the chimney ice spike he rose.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight —
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: More visit sets.
« on: 16 Dec 2014, 06:08:58 »
It would be cool to have a few more visit sets, but I can see your concern about keeping it simple. There are already quite a few commands available on the server  :D. Maybe an expanded /visit could work something  like this:

/visit set        with   /visit ItsLawrence   Goes to your living room, fishing spot, wherever you might be entertaining
/visit set COTM   with   /visit ItsLawrence COTM  Goes with your COTM
/visit set shop     with   /visit ItsLawrence shop   Goes to your shop
/visit set scenic   with /visit ItsLawrence scenic   Goes to that really scenic spot you found in the mining world
/visit set 2   with   /visit ItsLawrence 2 Goes to a second casual visit location awarded because you now own 100 wild chunks.

The extra location names would be determined by the Admins to keep the naming consistent so that a user would only need to know the name of who he wants to visit.

^^^  All just a thought.
