Multiple Account Important Information
« on: 30 Dec 2015, 19:58:06 »
Due to the recent actions of certain players we'd like to reiterate some specifics in regards to those who have/use multiple accounts. If you don't use more than one account and never intend to this is mostly irrelevant to you.

On Noobstown we allow people who own multiple Minecraft accounts to connect to them individually and play on each independently; we'll treat each account as its own entity and as such they'll all be entitled to take part in our events and claim prizes. That's irrespective of if the same person is playing on many different accounts.

We have however never allowed people to connect to Noobstown using accounts which they do not own; the use of accounts which you do not own is not only against the Noobstown rules; but can be considered illegal in certain places including the UK, the EU, and the USA. If you are caught using an account which you do not own we will act.

As a result of the actions of certain individuals recently we're therefore also introducing a new policy regarding the number of accounts which can connect from the same household in a period of time. This limit is more than enough for any legitimate user to have their whole family play together; if you aren't abusing it's extremely unlikely you'll ever notice this change. If however you reach this limit you (and every account you have ever connected with) will be automatically be banned from the server and we will investigate your account activity and act accordingly.

If you have recently been using accounts which you do not have appropriate access to (and we haven't already been in contact) now is your final chance to own up through PMing me on the site. If you're caught from this point onwards the action will be more serious.

If you are simply playing with accounts you or your family own then there isn't anything you need to worry about; this change is to tackle those abusing the rules and to ensure everyone is aware of our stance. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please contact me or reply and I'll be sure to answer; we don't want you to be concerned.

Thanks Larry for this update. I hope those players have been put in their place. I have multiple accounts but they are all accounts I've purchased with my own money and I barely use them.

Not sure how you're tracking, but I connect quite often through multiple VPN endpoints in countries all around the world.  (Aways with my single account though).

Is it ok to use a account what one of your family members gave because they don't play minecraft anymore?

The accounts i use are mine, I paid for them - and have an understanding with the people (my offline friends) about how and when we use them.

Just the three of us here.  I have an account, my bf has an account & my daughter has an account too.  My son got too scared of endermen since a past GM of a past server a bunch of family friends all played on filled his house up one day to spook him - he hasn't played MC on any server since - even though I have tried telling him people on Noobstown won't fill up his house full of mobs! lol.

Both this current account and the alt (Godhunter213) are shared with 2 friends of mine. I got his permission to use these accounts. Maa maa, he uses both accounts to build stuff in creative, I use it to connect to servers like this, and another friend plays survival in her own world. So this is basically a community account, except that you need creative builder guy's perms to use it. Hope this is allowed!

But if its not, the creative guy said that he'd give this account to me as a Christmas gift.

Answers for all of the comments made (check through the post I've responded to everyone who has responded):

That's fine we don't want to punish you for accounts you own or have explicit permission to use (Read about shared accounts); if you notice any issues regarding this please contact me.

You shouldn't need to worry about this change then; just don't use accounts which aren't yours or you don't have explicit permission to use (Read about shared accounts).

...
You are allowed to use a VPN, we know some people rely on these for a safe and secure connection; that's fine.

If you have received permission from them and they own the account then sure (Read about shared accounts).

That's fine, as long as you have explicit permission to use them from the owners then it's fine (Read about shared accounts). If you notice any issues where you reach the new limits please just contact me and I'll sort it for you.

Three accounts isn't going to trigger anything; that's fine. You can use accounts for people who have given you direct permission to do so as long as they own them; so that shouldn't be an issue too (Read about shared accounts). If you notice any issues with connecting because of this change please contact me though.

You are allowed to use accounts that you have direct permission to do so on by the owner, we don't want to punish for that. Just be aware that irrespective of who is using an account on Noobstown we'll act accordingly; so if someone were to break our rules while on your account then we'd still punish it (but hopefully that won't happen), check https://www.noobscraft.com/server/minecraft-accounts/

So how about your rules when people that use multiple accounts get banned on one account. Are you finally gonna ban the others as well, or still allow them to circumvent a ban this way?

He just specified that people CAN use multiple LEGALLY GOTTEN accounts.  All he is doing is installing a failsafe where it bans the IP (when it reaches a ridiculously large amount) until they can investigate that the accounts are legally paid for and are not from generating websites.  That a normal family can play, even a large one and not notice anything at all.

To answer your question Cite. In other words no, if someone gets banned on one account they should not get banned on another. We have no way of knowing if that account is theirs brother's or a friend's account so ban's are per account not person.

And each account is treated as its own. It may be the same person as a banned account but they are allowed to play on another legal account if they so choose.

As others have explained; in most cases we treat each account as its own entity and as such when a bad action is made on one account then we'll punish that account only. There are some cases when we'll act on all accounts under an IP or another identifier but they're much less common (an example is the change which I explained in the first post of this topic).

I competely disagree with this statement. If someone beforehand mentioned that they have multiple accounts, and one of them gets banned for disobeying the server's rules, all of the accounts they mentioned as their own should get banned.

You also said that if multiple people log in on the same account, it is the responsibility of the owner of the account if any of the people that have access to it break the server's rules.

Be consistent for a change. If someone breaks the rules, BAN EVERY SINGLE ACCOUNT THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO PLAYING ON. It's not that difficult to read chatlogs and see if someone said "hey, I'm blablabla". It is unfair to give people a different treatment, just because they have access to multiple accounts. If it's really that simple to circumvent a ban, why would anyone care about getting banned anymore? All you gotta do anyway is just buy a new account, it seems, or just get one from a friend that doesn't play anymore.
