I knew that but why was V5 online?
The V5 server is online for testing purposes. Once it is at a point where we can begin accepting players we will do so ;).

But why was it on 1.8?
The version of Bukkit which is being used on the temporary server currently, isn't a stable release by Bukkit.org and so we are testing it on a world which isn't as important currently, before moving it onto the actual V5 world.
