What's Coming to Noobstown? - An Update
« on: 16 Apr 2016, 21:43:30 »

An update about what we're up to and our plans for things to come later this year - The Biggest change since Version 6 began over two years ago!

As many of you will have noticed over the last few weeks our player numbers have dropped quite dramatically, we just want to make an update post to let you know that we've definitely not just abandoned Noobstown, we're working hard behind the scenes to bring you a number of highly anticipated updates later this year. There are still a large number of you, but at the moment it seems you're sticking around on the server for less time, this is just to update you about what we've got planned to make sure you know we're not just letting things slip away. :)

Firstly I just want to remind you all that you can have your say on what we should be working on sooner by voting at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/. Over the last few months I have personally put an enormous amount of work into making a large number of the features you all requested, ready to be put into place, our plan is to make one massive update to the server later this year which is why it might seem like things have slowed down at the moment, but the work being put in definitely hasn't slowed!

On to what we've got planned as part of this massive change though. These things aren't just what we're hoping to work on this year, but they will be all released this Summer (likely June or July) or certain parts before if we're ready to go with them early. Just to be clear :P, they will be released later this year, they're not here just yet. I know we've not been good with release dates previously, but these things will actually all be ready for release this Summer!

Almost a year ago we announced that we'd be moving to our own system for Towns, and yes we finally will be this year. This Summer Noobstowny will actually be coming to Noobstown! The system itself is almost completely done, it's going to go into a private testing phase soon, but will definitely be ready for release this Summer! As explained when we first announced it, it is based heavily off the existing town system, if you've used Towny on Noobstown already you should have no problems with the new system, but there'll be a post explaining a few of the changes we've decided in a few weeks. We'd love your feedback on that to help shape it to be a system you want to use and enjoy, keep an eye out for that announcement. (The Work item) This change will also allow us to support many of the great features which the Wilderness currently offers but because of the lack of protection the old town system didn't, look forward to that! For example Armour Stands (The Work item).

It has been over a year since Mojang began allowing you to change your Minecraft username, since then if you've changed your name after playing on Noobstown we've blocked your access. However this is likely to change this Summer! Over the last few weeks I've put into place a number of the last few steps to allow us to move to allowing you to keep playing on Noobstown if you've changed your name. This will hopefully be available at the same time as the release of Noobstowny. Again we will announce this beforehand, along with how exactly it will work (don't update your name yet because your access will still be blocked for now), but this is definitely coming this Summer too! I know a number of you are waiting for this and we really appreciate your patience with that so you can keep playing Noobstown, but it will soon be possible, just a few more months to wait! (The Work item)

There have been a large number of Wilderness changes which have been requested and issues reported to me. A large number of these will be fixed too! Specifically we will definitely be introducing a free Wilderness chunk count command, so you can see how many free chunks you've got left to use up (The Work item). Plus there will be a number of fixes to some small bugs which have been reported over the last few months. (This Work item)

  • We'll finally be adding a Head Shop so you can buy everyday heads for decorative use around your builds! (This Work item)
  • Sponges! We'll be allowing sponges to be used to soak up water like they normally should in Minecraft in all worlds! (This Work item)
  • We'll finally get round to updating the VIP Shop to work similar to the new /shop option. (This Work item)
  • We'll begin to allow slime blocks to be pushed/pulled by pistons within your land in both Towns and the Wilderness! This is something which will allow for some really cool redstone creations to be possible but also still be safe. (This Work item)
  • As explained above we'll begin supporting armour stands in the Town world too! (This Work item)
  • We'll actually get round to releasing some rewards for playing Snowball! (This Work item)

That should complete 10 work items from the list, including a few massive ones! There may be more too as we work things out more specifically. We're really excited about what is to come, and I appreciate that not much might be happening right now, but things really are coming very soon. There will continue to be monthly themes going forward, but we'll be stepping up our game with these again over the Summer too, especially with our new 'Content Creator' rank!

We're a community which runs and survives for you guys, and we really appreciate that you've chosen to play here, and especially those of you who have stuck around while we've been a bit quieter. We're really planning to push ourselves forward to try and bring us back to a stage we used to be at over the next few months, so be excited for the things we've got to come!

Thanks!

Awesome! will Sponges be the 1.8 type or the old type of soaking up water? I think the old type is much better!

They'll be normal vanilla sponges.

I am definitely still around, its just that a new job has turned me from a telecommuter working at home to an office cubicle Jocky! thus my gametime is drastically limited.  However I am still her, still Jaegers slave....etc!

They will be using the Snowball Winners Tokens which are given to the winner of each game.

For the new towny update will it be like a v7 so everything resets or just everything in town world or nothing?

I don't think anything will reset since it sounds merely just like a giant command update.

Apologies I should have explained this in the original post, no it isn't another version, this will be simply replacing the Towny system we currently use, almost everything will still exist when we change over. The change is simply to allow us to fix some on-going bugs, to support updates faster and to introduce new highly requested features which aren't likely to be supported by the current third-party developers which make Towny at the moment.

No builds, towns or plots will be cleared or lost because of the update, some things will be changing which will be explained in the update post I mentioned above, but your builds won't disappear. This is part of the reason why the development has taken so long because we want to support the current towns, plots and world.

We created Version 6 for it to be continuous and for us to be able to keep introducing features over time without completely deleting everything, it was designed to be the last version of Noobstown. We have resetting resource worlds and the natural land in both the Town world and Wilderness can't be griefed or ruined since you have to own it. The worlds are more than big enough to support the players we have, and no one has even reached the cap in any of the mcMMO skills yet. We really have no plans to ever move beyond V6, there are/will be sub-versions for some of the larger updates, but not likely to ever be a whole reset like previously again; and that's true for the Noobstowny update too.

I think this will make Noobstown even better then it used to be if that's even possible.
There will be alot more redstone by redstone lovers with the slime but i really hope there will be no lag with the moving slime machines. The head shop will be great for people who lost there head they had ( like my cake head :( ) and people who missed some events can buy the heads from the event :). My only question is, when will noobstown be updated to 1.9??? Anyway THANK YOU!!! This update will be amazing

Just to post an update of some of the things which we have now implemented, still lots more coming this Summer, but so far we've:

  • Introduced Noobstowny! - Work item
  • Armour stands can now be used anywhere! - Work item
  • Sponges can now be used in the Town world and they'll be coming to the other worlds next month - Work item
  • Slime blocks can now be pushed/pulled by pistons in the Town world, and this will be coming to the other worlds next month - Work item

Still a lot more to come this Summer!
