1-3 FPS
« on: 12 Jan 2013, 18:11:11 »
Is there anything I could do to bring down the lag on my computer? I spend a lot of time in the mining world cause I don't lag nearly as bad as I do in my town or any town. I have about 3 fps when I'm in a town. I don't have any mods or texture packs or any background programs running.

Just some advice on reducing lag would be great.

Thanks!

You could always install Optifine or Gamebooster, they are both quite good to raise your FPS a bit at least.

Game Booster: http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster
Optifine: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-147-optifine-hd-a3-fps-boost-hd-textures-aa-af-and-much-more/

I wrote a way bigger reply but my firefox just had to close itself out for no damn reason.. x_x
just ask me if you need any else kind of help, I personally got quite a bad computer but my Minecraft still runs at 10 - 20 FPS if I am around lots of builds.

Optifine really, it will make your FPS higher while Gamebooster will more like if you lag it will try to solve the problem in the background and might manage to boost your game a little, so I would say Optifine if you only want to use one, I use both personally.

You also could try to set your settings in game like distance:tiny ,clouds:off ,and graphic:fast etc.

well I tried downloading optifine and while it is a mod, I'm new to mods. No idea how they work or how to get them to work. I'm not good with .zip files either, never have been. Spent like 30 minutes trying to get it all situated....failed. haha

any advice?

If you are on Windows 7 you simply do |
- Start
- Type %Appdata%
- Click "Roaming"
- Go To .minecraft
- Go To Bin
- Open The File "Minecraft" in Jar or Zip to do this simply right click on the file till the big option thingy pops up, hover over "open with" then choice WinRar Archive or Zip Archive
- When you are in the file all you do is drop the files from the Optifine Jar in to the minecraft Jar and all done.

Cause I suck at explaining stuff ill drop in a simple youtube tutorial for you, they are much easier to understand then text, trust me :)

Update your video drivers, normally boosts FPS. I would recommend asking peeps on minecraft forums to help you as they have more qualified and certified peeps there than here (no offense).

But its a risk, screw up your drivers, you kill your PC.

I can see a HUGE difference. I don't lag nearly as bad as I did before. It's still not great...maybe like 6 FPS or so in town but it's so much better than like 1-3 FPS. haha the highest I had was 29 in town.

thank you so much!

What helped me and my friends when we play on under-performing laptops is to turn sound and music off. It gave us between 3 to 9 fps! Turning off skype or other programs helps as well.

Yeah that i what the GameBooster is for, it "remove" the programs while you start the Booster but they are still there, the only thing is that you can't open/close them in till you stopped the Booster :)

Yeah I don't ever have any background programs running because I knew that would slow it down even more. Sometimes I have itunes running but recently I haven't...just been using my phone/ipod to power music.

Try fullscreen mode (F11 key) and see if it changes anything on your fps (Shift F3), depending on your windows it might increase your graphic performance.

Also try reducing the videosetting, especially: clouds off, Particles minimal, VSync off. Also try turning Advanced Open GL on or off (switching it depending on it's current setting; some systems work better with this option on, others loose fps).

Things to consider:
- Do you have a texturepack installed? (You said you had none, but I add the point for others)
- How much RAM does your computer have, there are ways to increase the memory Minecraft is allowed to use.
Link to a guide for memory allocation (Minecraftforum.net)
- Which Javaversion are you using? Version 7 Update 9 64bit should run fine on Windows 7 computers.
- If you have an Nvidia graphics adapter you might want to pay their website a visit. They have an autodetect option in their DriverDownload section that will pick the right driver for you to download and install.

How do I go about updating this mod when it tells me there's an update? Optifine that is.

Don't worry about updates if it is not cause Minecraft itself has updated, when Optifine updates and minecraft does not it is just mainly small chunk bugs fixes which you can almost never notice.

But, if Minecraft updates as for example from 1.4 to 1.5 all you do is re install the mod like you did the first time! :)
