server sick or is it just me?
« on: 3 Jul 2014, 00:13:20 »
So I have been noticing a few things wrong lately and even seeing others comment in chat and it got me to thinking that something seems to be up with the server.  While it could be just my perception, I wanted to see if anyone else was getting frustrated as I am.

Lag (mostly in mining world).  The lag deaths, having to dig a block twice, etc.  At times its very noticeable.
Spawners not spawning.  They are not completely broken, but something is different.
I am not much of a PVP'er, but I was trying to PVP with a friend and no matter where we went it did not work.  Yes it was on, yes we were in PVP areas.  Now that I am writing this it clicked that maybe it is just because we are in a group?
I have a bunch spots in my wheat farm that no longer grow.  Works with bone meal, but never continues.  Anyone else seeing this?

Lastly (and I know the server and web site are different) but the web site is pretty darn sporadic also.  It even flaked out when I was trying to post this with a "The page isn't redirecting properly" error in multiple browsers.  Odd.

Now before anyone rants on me all this could be my perception - I am not complaining, just sharing what I am seeing.

back to some diggy diggy hole.

Bumkin,

I know a few people have mentioned about the lag. We have let the admins know about this. As far as the PVP thing, I've had a few people come to me and tell me something similar. Both players have it enabled, in a pvp enabled world and still nothing happens. Also with the wheat, makes sure it has appropriate lighting, that can cause wheat to not grow. Finally, the website has been kinda up and down as well but it hasn't been down for long during that time.

We appreciate your feedback and we appreciate you noticing things like this.

With the pvp thing, are you both in the same /party?

If so it wont let you friendly fire.

PvP- As Drew said, it's most likely the party. Could you try it without being in a party and tell us if that works? :)

Spawners - I believe the mobspawning-routine was actually changed for several reasons. I think there should be some threads around for that topic that explain it a little more in detail.

Wheat - Did you check the lightlevel on those spots, is it high enough to trigger wheatgrowth? Especially when playing with maximum brightness in the video settings you can easily miss such dark spots.

Lag (Server) - i didn't notice anything in the last couple of days (european connection, current Provider: Orange), but I'm still used to the asian connection I played on the last years (mining every 2nd block 4 times before it's gone) , so in comparison probably everything seems lag free to me now. I haven't been much in the miningworld lately though. Might be interessting to know if the problems occur to customers of certain providers/regions.

Site - It has been down a couple of times, the redirection error might however be a different issue. It might happen because of
- a redirection loop on the site (something only an admin could fix, that problem should however affect more users if it were the case here)
- a plugin-problem in your browser (especially some adobeplugins tend to cause it)
- or in the best (easiest to resolve) case a corrupted cookie (no that's not the ones who don't have choclatechips). You could try deleting your Noobstown-cookie (or simply all cookies), it might help with this error.

Regarding this, as other's have already stated the light is most likely the issue here as I was having a similar problem to you until I investigated further and found out the blocks where the wheat weren't growing were being supplied with less light than the surrounding. I believe the "bl" of the block has to be 9 or above for it to grow. (If you don't know what bl means it's "block light" and to find it out you have to press F3)
