That's why you need to be careful of who you add because there is a limit and I believe to have one deleted you need to contact an admin.

"That is why ..", implies there was a warning, which there isn't. I for one wasn't told there's a limit, I found out by reviewing the commands, but I also wasn't aware deleting a friend isn't possible --- friendships end, people leave. It's expected this would be possible. This is constructive feedback that perhaps can be considered a suggestion to make a more informative command.

Deleting a friend is possible and has been possible since the wild system was made; you can remove a friend by using the command:

/wild friend remove NAME

However, the player must be online when you remove them as it affects both players, I'm not sure if this is what you are alluding to.

Ok, Twisted then either confused or misinformed me, or something.. It looked like it required an admin to be done.

I apologize. Waterworth is right though, they do have to be online. I think if they're offline for so long (and inactive) you can contact an admin I believe and they'll delete that player.

In the wild, adding a friend means allowing them to build within 3 chunks of your land.  If you add to many, it could cause some problems later on when trying to build and expand.  A remedy to this is to just have the other person you want to build with just build somewhere near by, or on the other side of your two friends (just have them add that person as a friend.)

In the towny world, you can add an unlimited number of friends.  Meaning they can build, destroy, ect... on your plots.  /res friend add [Name] .  If you have more than 4 or 5 people wanting to build together, you may want to consider starting a small town or even joining a town that will allow you to have plots together.

Either way, here are two options to help you get around the limited wilderness friend additions.  Keep in mind if you're wanting to allow someone to build and destroy on your wilderness plots, this is also possible with /wild builder.
