Abandoned Towns?

I'm new to towns so don't judge me, please?!

Are there towns that have been abandoned that someone can take over? I see what looks like several towns on the town map via the website but they have no names marking them on the map. Just curious! (and wondering if it would be cheaper than 900k for a brand spankin new town)!

There are plenty of towns that are abandoned and if you're interested in taking one over, speak to itslawrence. When you take over a town, they're not sold; selling a town is not allowed. Speak to larry though and I'm sure he'll give a more thorough answer but he's the guy you want to talk to if you're interested! :)

Some of the places you may have seen could have been town outposts, which don't have names on them but are still part of a town.

On the Town map all towns are labelled (even the inactive ones). As sir_Andrew suggested you are probably looking at the outposts which aren't labelled at all. As for inactive towns there are probably some available, if you're active enough and have enough in-game money to fund one, time to dedicate to running one and are interested please contact me in-game about it.

Just a general comment about this topic. I can't imagine a town being 'cheaper'. Not only for the unfair factor.

We had to pay 900k and 5500 per plot, and another million for resources and time building etc.

But another person can spend a small amount to skip those steps and end up with no effort, all the benefits AND the residents ..

If a town is abandoned the residents should be contacted ahead of time that they can move to a move active town, before the staff takes the town out of equation. This way we end up with active towns with active residents.

Why would I spend an average of 3 million to get a town, plots, resources, residents, build spawn, roads, grinders, outposts, etc. But someone else can just get it for free, for less than this 3 million average? Makes no sense to me.

This is slightly off the topic of the post but I'll explain here anyway, if you want to make a full discussion about this please do so in a new topic.

There are 3 different sorts of way you can gain a town considered inactive:
  • You are existing Town staff and the Mayor is completely inactive, in which case we'll offer the mayor roll to them so they can continue running the town.
  • You are a resident in a dying town which has no active staff, in which case we'll give you the mayor title to prevent the town from being deleted
  • You are someone willing to invest in a town with no active staff and only a tiny number of inactive residents.
In option 3 the towns which are given to other players are only likely to be given out if they are up for deletion anyway (as in no active staff and very few inactive residents). Giving them to another player saves us the job of having to remove the buildings which are on the existing land; hence why we're willing to do it rather than force everyone to purchase new towns. And I have refused giving towns to certain players because they either didn't have enough money/activity or the towns they were interested in were too active. We'd obviously much rather give a dying town to a resident/staff member who will keep their own town running, but this isn't possible with the numbers of inactive players we have right now.

You also need to consider when a town which is inactive is purchased then it becomes extremely difficult for them to expand further without putting in an enormous amount of work since they are likely to be limited by the lack of residents in the town. Plus they are likely to have existing structures which might not fit into their idea of what the town should be, which might involve further work. As part of the mayor agreement when creating towns you agree that:
...everything within the town is 'shared' and is not yours to keep...
That includes the land you purchase, it becomes the Town's when you invest in it.

The reason we're giving them away is because we'd much rather have someone running a Town and making it active and putting effort into it than just letting it die, it is a last resort for if the town is pending complete removal anyway.

If this is something you want to discuss further please feel free to do so, you can make another Topic about this, or PM me and I'll go into more specifics if you want.
