You can also look for a program called MultiMC. I've mentioned it elsewhere on here, but I'll provide the link this time (Moderators, if this breaks a server advertising rule, please edit it out for me):

I personally maintain three instances, the current vanilla version of Minecraft, the version I need for Noobstown along with approved mods (like Rei's Map), and a heavily modified single player instance of 1.2.5 (since a lot of the complex mods haven't yet updated to even 1.3.2).
Then it doesn't matter when Noobstown updates, you'll be able to play.
