"Roleplay", Keep It In Local! (Everyone Read)
« on: 31 Mar 2013, 21:33:04 »
Thru the time I been on this server, I seen a lot of fake families, weddings etc.. and I am kinda getting sick of it.

I know people do this for fun, but when it comes to chatting about it in the general chat, and people being muted/ignored cause others are getting annoyed, I think the line has been crossed.

I am not saying ban the Roleplay on the server, people are allowed to do as they please, as long as it isn't breaking any rules, but what I do ask for is banning it in General chat, cause I am getting sick of seeing fake weddings between kids that are probably around 10 years old, it is kinda disturbing, even tho it is just suppose to be fun, keep it in local if you gone do anything like this, is what I want, and many others agree with me on this.

I agree with you Miner.

Yes, I know I was a fake priest for 'Adam and Neon's Wedding'.
But still it is quite annoying.

Good point guys. Although it might be cute for some people, it could cause more drama on the server and major problems with one another.

Agreed Miner It Gets Really Annoying At Times. There Are Many Roll Play Servers So You Can Do It There, Just Please Not Here.

Orrrrrrrrrr a separate channel could me made specifically for it, and only if you're in said channel will you be able to read what they're typing, thus negating all negativity people might have towards it.
This could work quite easily with the Forums aswell by simply creating a 'Role-play' sub-forum.
Either that or they can just keep it in 'Local Chat,' if not creating a 'Party Chat.'

I see no point in banning it from either, since I hardly notice it as it is.

My two cents.

For those of you who do not understand what roleplaying is:

Quote
ROLEPLAYING:  (v.) To act and speak as if you are the character you're portraying. To roleplay is as much about what not to say as what TO say. It means to keep your speech in the context of the setting in which your character (or avatar) exists. Context can be defined as both time and place.

Most roleplaying that occurs is in an online setting, such as an online game, a chat room, or a message board.

I know that all of us were very young at one point, and most of us probably had many games of 'Make believe' and mock fights against dragons, soldiers, and other various villains.  It is normal for a younger person to  pretend to be something they want to be.  Those of us who are older and still enjoy roleplaying tend to have an understanding that it's best kept private between those who wish to participate.  That being said, you have to keep in mind that the majority of what you are seeing on the server is a younger person trying to express themselves and have fun.  That's what noobstown is about afterall, but we do ask them to either take it to local, /msg, or party chat already.

The use of the word 'ban' here is very strong, and I don't think it's quite appropriate for what you're really trying to ask for, miner.  Perhaps prohibit or discourage would fit more into the context.  We are a tolerant server, and try not to be biased in our opinions or feelings towards things like this, and as such, I would ask that you guys try and do the same.  Be patient, and if it becomes too taxing on your nerves, there is the option of an /ignore.

I agree. I don't think Roleplaying should be banned on the server or taken to any extreme by any means because it is a way to play the game for some people and put their own spin on it but again, it can be taken too far and it can make other people playing the game very uncomfortable. I would agree to keep it in local or even make a town full of all roleplayers or something, just to keep the conversations out of the general chat.

You are probably right, using the world ban might be a bit to harsh, but then more people might get my point on it, I also know that you can /ignore players, but you can't ignore people on forum, meaning if people make a topic about it, like the wedding topic that was posted earlier, their is not really much we can do, it will still be on the forum, and it will still be annoying.

I just don't see why people gone roleplay on a server like this, when it is several other servers out there that focus only on roleplay.

This makes me feel old, but:

This server used to advertise with "RP" in the description, back when we had NPCs with those buggy quests, (and not those from the beginning here, I mean the original ones from V1). If people want to RP, let them. Just tell them to do it in Local and, if they refuse, inform a moderator and we will make sure they do. We can't just remove RPing as this server, with all the towns and such, actually allows for a decent RP-Experience.

Like I said, this makes me feel old that I'm the only who remembers this. :L

/party -> Party chat allows to you communicate with your 'family' without everyone having to simultaneously facepalm each time you announce in general chat that you need a mommy.  I mean, roleplaying *IS* in the tags for Noobstown on the Planet Minecraft listing, and it's not really a big deal, but party chat would help prevent more than a few /ignores.

I honestly think what you (The Mods and Administrators of Noobstown) is to add a channel specifically for rping. Such as /ch rp1, (rp2, rp3, etc) That is split from the actual g chat or any chats. So they can feel free to rp as much as they want if needed. But there should probably be a moderator on the rp chat to make sure the rules are still in place. That is in my input with the situation.

This is the exact same thing going through my head, I remember it being advertised as an RP back in v3, I was beginning to think it was just me who remembered until I got to your post haha.

Oh and back to the RP thing, there would need to be another list of rules for the boundaries of which people can RP about if there was another chat channel, you could find some people going OTT and that would only give the Moderator/Admins more work to do. I don't think anything needs done, when someone has been told to do it in /msg or local, I think that's enough. Nothing drastic needs changed really, I'm sure we all know how to ignore other chats because we do it every day, the only difference is that whoever is doing the RP is speaking in-character.

Don't feel old! I remember those quests as well. :) Oh wait. Maybe we should feel old.. That was like 2 years ago.. x.x But those quests were what made Noobscraft an RP server. :)

I voted that it should be banned, but by this I mean that people should get a warning for continiously rping in the general chat. So that after a couple of warnings that they should RP in local or a party chat. It will keep the general chat cleaner and maybe make less people get creeped out  :P
