A Plugin Idea:Bookworm
« on: 12 Mar 2012, 15:06:43 »
I would like the bookworm plugin. You could write books and stuff. Its also great for mail. Mail is used in some towns so it would be pretty cool to open up my mailbox and read the mail. You can also make journals and stories with the bookworm plugin. I think it is really cool and should be in noobstown.

That would actually be so awesome, being able to write in a journal or a book.

Oh, i know! Perhaps write a journal of some happening or adventure, then leave it in a chest in a dungeon or cave somewhere for someone to possibly find and read! :D 8| :3

That would be pretty cool. Like you go in a random cave and put a journal of your adventures in a chest. That would be amazing! Useful for adventure maps. Here is the download link if you want to add it.

You could leave books with rhyming clues to the location of the next book, all leading up to a treasure! First one to find it gets it!

Actually, I would think that it would only disable stacking of books that have something written in them, due to the way that I'm guessing the plugin works, but empty books that have never been written in should still be stackable, and if not, I could easily write a plugin that does the exact same thing as bookworm, while still retaining the ability to stack blank books together, just sayin.

P.S. Good to see you around german, it's been a while. :)

Nope, bookworm disabled book stacking for all books... and the way it was implemented, each player was only allowed one book which was tied to the character.

P.S. good to see you too. I'm not really here though... Lent just got a bit boring earlier >.<

no, Book stacks with only books that have the same infomation as it. Such as one book will be the same as a copied book.

Exactly, because the way that the plugin works is basically...wait... *refrains from explanation* ...nevermind that, I really shouldn't go into detail and potentially confuse people, I'm bad about that sometimes. >.< Anyways, I think I know how the plugin works, and any books with the same info in them (particularly empty ones) should still be able to stack with each other.

Not sure what you mean about a book being tied to a character though...mabey a limit set by the admin of whatever server you were on? (unless it was your server, then I have no clue.) (Or mabey I should go read about the plugin in more detail. XD ) (Or mabey I should read their source code....if they provide it. XD )

EDIT: Lol, nvm that. XD I just read more closely and the first paragraph on the plugin page says that book stacking is disabled, though I personally am pretty certain that I could easily write a plugin that does the exact same thing, but allows for the stacking of books that contain the exact same info. In fact, some code that I'm writing for one of my plugins right now, that uses a custom HashMap<> database file to store player data, could actually be recycled to store all of the data that would be needed to be stored for a plugin similar to this...wait...yay! I just got an idea for another plugin....a competitor to BookWorm! :P XD

EDIT 2: But seriously though, that's how my brain works sometimes when it comes to stuff like this. I don't completely like what's already available for whatever reason, so I make something else that has similar basic functionality as other things, but is entirely different and unique in it's own right. :) An upcoming plugin of mine, CreativePortals, is a perfect example of this...well mabey not perfect, but you know what I mean. XD

EDIT 3: So yeah...basically I still support this idea, but I don't like the fact that books wouldn't be stackable at all...though I personally could fix that methinks. XD

The point of this plugin will become void and useless, due to the same concept being released in 1.3.
Thought this was a good idea at the time this topic was made.

Well, the one part that still remains (That I really like) is the Mailbox idea. You could do multiple things with those magical contraptions... (Delivery of items while offline? VIP gets more items allowed?) Another awesome thing (that would take a LONG time to make unless DragonSoulSong put his life towards it) is to possible add "Catalogues".

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but they could be used for large towns (Like DragonFire) to distribute items. Suppose a Written Book was made with a plug-in that allows items to be transferred from a chest shop to your house for the price of the item and a Delivery Fee of some sort. I don't want to go into much more details, but let this idea keep you thinking...
