Before old abandoned towns are removed...auction them off?  (Read 2238 times)

We had a discussion about old towns that are no longer active, and thought it would be a neat idea if they could be auctioned off somehow. Would be a way for us less rich players to get a town and keep things active as opposed to just wiping them away...

Thoughts?

Old towns are in the process of being worked on. I think Larry has an idea he's been working on for awhile.

It also would be nice if they could become outposts of existing towns.

This has my vote.

Just let us pay 450k for the outpost, and if it is know they had 400 plots, that we pay 400 x 2500 + a fee of 900,000 to unlock those 400 so we can register them.

This way popular towns can grow.

There we have a problem. That makes It so only mega rich players and towns can ressurect the towns. Towns like Celestia and Groozdale that just started would not be able to compete with powerhouses like Dracomere and Town X.

Town x isn't a power house :p

Small towns shouldn't get overwhelmed with taking over other dying towns. They themselves should thrive first.
People are leaving towns that are under populated and inactive, causing towns sometimes to expire.
Rather than having a dozen of those, why not have a few thriving towns that can resolve the problem without it hurting their wallet too much. I don't see much benefit in a new under populated and inactive town to merge with another one that's on the brink of being removed. It will just be a bigger town without much new activity.

Hi,

The plans that we have for inactive towns are that our main priority is to find an internal alternative for the mayorship; in other words, we will first look to see if any assistants or co-mayors are suitable for the role of mayor. This will go through all of the major town staff ranks before we even consider any form of 'auctioning'.

We don't have plans to sell towns to other towns at a lower price, this would create monopolies and duopolies of towns whereby new towns have a very low chance of being successful. This issue was alluded to by Meep and he's quite right in saying that the big towns would very easily be able to purchase this land without leaving any scuffs on their wallets whereas smaller towns would find it more difficult and risk their own towns stability in doing so.

I hope this helps

Any sales of old towns should be kept to those that don't belong to the uber rich, getting a few lower income users to run a town would build some sense of teamwork. I do agree a town should be flat out DEAD before anyone considers doing anything with it.

I just hope something can be done aside from just wiping them off the map, old outdated wild land on the other hand nuke that all ASAP ;)

I personally don't think it's the best idea. If it's going to cost less, that makes it somewhat unfair towards others looking forward to make a town. But if this idea was to get through, I think the start price should be 950k, to make it fair.

If towns are to be auctioned off, it shouldn't be at a set price, but instead calculated with certain factors so that smaller towns stand a chance.
Example: [Number of Players in Buying Town] x [Number of Players in Planned Extension] x [Number of Plots in Planned Extension] x [Set Number, Perhaps 1000]

Edit: Auctioned off as outposts.
