Protection of Homes * Admin/Staff question*
« on: 18 Jul 2012, 10:16:52 »
Hi all!

Why exactly with all the addons present on the server can there not be a way to claim your house and area around it and have protection put in place?

Is it  a matter of bad plugins or too much used resources to run one?

I watch admins run ragged everyday Un-griefing stuff, wouldn't it just be 1000 times easier to use area protection?

Thanks

Well, most people live in towns, they're the safest place to be.

I understand that, but not all of us want to be confined by the rules of a town. I want to do what I want is my issue.

Some guy comes onto my property yesterday and steals every single one of my animals and nothing can be done about it.  The protection addon cant be a big deal to run on the server. I was just curious as to why it wasn't used is all.. the addon wouldn't have allowed him to open my gates. 300k dollars to create a town is a LOT of money. I wish it could be more affordable, so individuals could take advantage of it's protection etc

I think what he's saying is that's the benefit of being in a town vs not being in a town. If you don't want to live in a town, fine but that's the price.

If you want people to stay out of your house, put locks on your doors/gates.

You can do this with lwc commands.  Type /lwc to see the list of commands and type /cprivate and left click the door/gate to make it private, where only you and mods/admins can open it after that.

Besides that, there is nothing.  One of the reasons is that you are living in the wild and are taking a risk to not live in a town.  Another problem is that if people could claim land, people would be claiming land for themselves (free at charge is what it sounded that you were saying) all around towns and in different areas just to get off of the server. Then towns would be limited and couldn't expand just because a person gets on for one day, claims land RIGHT outside town, and then leaves the server, never to return. I see this as being more of a problem for the mods than just rolling back griefed places.

Thanks for hearing my opinion out,

Yes, what he said. Town makers have to be determined players, not just any old noob with 1k.

It is 300k, because so many people were making towns at 100k, I also agree that would be good, but should cost more than a town plot, to keep towns alive.

We don't have wilderness griefing protection because;

  • Most of the plugins for protection are high maintenance and use up quite a bit of memory
  • Someone could claim over someone else's house.
  • Create more problems for Staff members
  • Could cause strain on the server memory.

These are only a few of the errors that it can cause.

Believe it or not but we don't like it when people are griefed, and if we found the appropriate plugin to create wilderness protection, we would. However at the moment there are no suitable plugins that do the job properly and efficiently.

Don't know if you guys ever looked at the PreciousStones plugin Water, if you have then disregard, if not and you would like the link to it to look at it then PM me and I'll get it to you.

It has various configurations for different user levels, and pretty much anything you could want/need to alter. So you place the protection block, create the field, and if so configured a general user could only place say 2 or 3 of those block, but a VIP could get more, and what not. It also has an auto conflict resolution so you cant have overlapping fields. Just a thought, saw one server with it that seemed to run well even with a horrid ping, and it was configured to use diamond blocks, so not a cheap protection investment. At current rates that would make a singe block almost 13k to place.

I agree it would be nice, my tower out in the wilderness would never fit within the 4 plots you can own as part of a town, and not may towns would allow such a tall or expansive construction. It's simply no way to make it small enough. Also considering I've recently had more traffic to the area around my tower, griefing has gone up. I went for 2 months without an incident, and now it is almost daily. So something like this would be nice. Otherwise I would need to make a one man town just to protect my tower and not be able to be a part of Oakvale anymore, which I would rather not do. Just my input though.

Im affraid there is no such plugin due to the codes of java and minecraft

it may be possible to make a plugin like that that members can use and prevent all the problems waterworth has said

it will take some time for a person to figure or even make a plugin like that

the precious stone plugin does alot of what waterworth says and will cause mass destruction and will ride the servers lag counts

O_o? How is there no such plugin? I am looking at it's wiki right now, and actually just dl'd it, so I'm 99% sure it exists, lol I would post the link to it, but do not want to violate any forum rules by doing so.

And from reading the documentation on it, I fail to see how it would be destructive. It is simply a configurable protection block plugin.

Lag on the other hand I would take Waterworth's word on. I was simply asking if that was one of the ones that had been looked at in the hunt for an appropriate one that he had mention in his post, simply out of curiosity.

I honestly don't think it is even necessary to put another plugin into something that doesn't need it, like people have already said.   And I have seen a LOT of towns created lately, and feel like 300k might even too low to make a  town now.

Not talking about something to create a town size area of protection fish, just talking about a mod removeable block type thing that creates a small area of protection around a singe structure similar to the towney protections to ward off griefing of homes and scale back the mods running around to roll back griefs. It would be something as easy to remove as a locked chest if it's in the way.

There are a lot of plugins that do this, but there is too many problems.

For example: A member could claim over your wilderness house so you can't build. Also a person could claim over town land, and then the town owners wouldn't be able to build there.
