Can we keep our stuff if we drown?
« on: 25 Oct 2012, 12:12:22 »
I have a problem. My Minecraft client sometimes freezes and if I'm swimming or in a boat and I have to restart MC I find I've drowned and all my stuff's gone. This means I can't cross water or even build a bridge across in case MC freezes again while I'm doing it.

Could you add drowning to the "non-drop on death" thing? Thanks.

It's not really my choice, but personally I'd be disappointed because nearly every circumstance where you die, you get to keep your stuff. This is a survival server so when you die you should drop everything, that's just my opinion though..

That's fair enough but how many people die from drowning in MC? Not many becuase it's an easy death to avoid. If you die from a mob or lava then that's ok but drowning is so easy to avoid, just swim when you're in water. But if you drown because of a technical fault with your client then that's hardly fair.

I know I'm asking for a rule to be changed just for me but would it hurt other people's playing experience that much?

It has been complains about this in PVP as people can hit you in to the water and you can die from drowning, I am for removing this just to make it 10% safer to do PVP, drowning sucks in PVP just as much as it does to you when your client freeze, I am for this idea to make you not drop items when you drown.

We don't lose items from fall damage cause that is also a thing that happens in PVP, why can't drowning ne treated the same way :/

I know where you're coming from, I just prefer to keep it strict and tight :P Isn't my decision  though so it might change :)

People complained on every death, you should die in PVP anyway, but that's be nerfed like 80%. I can't even use my Unarmed skill anymore, I'm the one who no-lifed it meaning I'm the one who wasted time leveling it when it has no use except from in the mob arena, what good does it do there? You already have buffed out weapons to use.

I like this idea they really should add that since when MC freezes it rally isnt fair although on the other side /top is a VIP thing so they might say nio because they might tghink youre just trying to get /back for free
although im pretty sure that isnt your intention

Really I think it should be added just in pvp.

i think its a good idea because me and my friend had to dive and died 5 times trying to get stuff he lost from stupidity (minning clay deep 15 blocks under water) and lost some of my stuff to.

In the case of lag, or disconnections:  It happens.  Even I have fell victim to a random dc while swimming in water, or while flying as a moderator.  To my horror, when I logged back into the server, I heard my bones crunch before I even had a chance of using /home.  The best thing you can do is try to build out slowly and keep your feet on something solid.

In the case of mining too deep...:  Eh, there's not much to be said.  That's the risk you take for digging underwater.  Invest in a respiration III helm if at all possible.

The situations we have locked down so you keep your items are there to prevent players from accidentally killing their fellow members and taking their items or xp.  it's a give and take situation with both good and bad sides.  Try to focus on why we have the things we do in place for the good of the server, instead of the bad that it gives you as an individual.
