The cries of a thousand angry 12 year olds will echo the forums.

Skyside West Plaza (a Japanese theme residential district with 8 residential plots available) is now taking applications for new residents.

New residents that get accepted will join a tightly knit Skyside community, and will be allowed to build and own a home in the new West Plaza in town.  Homes built must be Japanese in theme.  Move-in cost is 5000 noobz.

Please reply to this thread or message me here with a creative application.  Including screenshots to show building proficiency will highly increase chances of acceptance.

Noobstown General / Re: Achievement: Ride a mining cart 1km

The problem is they would either have to be all owned by the same person, or if you split it amongst people you would have to chain wild friends in such a way that you didnt have the buffer preventing build, which gets complex and involves a lot of people.  That amount of plots I'd also estimate at nearing 1 million noobz.

I'll toss out there that building this in the wild I think would require 63 chunks in a straight line.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Cocoa Beans
« on: 8 May 2014, 15:53:32 »

We all appreciate the /shop command and it's functions. We also would like to see more items added to it as well though. That's why we have the suggestions and ideas subforum. To add in our two cents. And yes, you were adding in your two cents by saying we don't need to add anything else to the shop. but, consider this. You have a farm for cocoa beans and you are making bank out of beans. You don't know what to do with all of them. Players will only buy a few then will never buy again as they can then get tons beans within a few days or so. I think if it were added to shop but had a very low price, it would even itself out. None of us are saying cocoa beans should be added for a few hundred a piece. But being able to sell them to shop to make atleast some profits off of them would indeed be nice. If it were 16 for 8 NBZ or 16 for 4NBZ it'd be okay. As long as we can sell them and earn some profits off of our farms. That's all we are asking.

The solution to this isn't to add more useless stuff to the shop, it's to stop farming useless things.  Why do you have a cocoa bean farm if you can't do anything with them?  Why do you continue farming them if you have loads of them and still no need for them?   Just stop and it's over.  The agony of the overwhelming beans will end when you end it.

You can't just add everything that doesnt serve a ton of function to the shop.  The shop is there to stimulate the economy to a point of self-sustaining.  It's not there to let people sell every object they find on the floor and inflate the server currency.  Be happy we have a shop to generate money by selling any objects at all, because it doesn't need to exist.  It's current iteration is a good balance of economic growth and inflation control and it should stay as it is.  You can't just implement things that will impact an economy willy nilly.  It takes thoughtfulness to create a balance that works, and I appreciate the economy thats been created for us.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Stock Market?
« on: 7 May 2014, 18:21:55 »
The thinking about stocks in this thread is a bit narrowminded.  Everyone seems to be focused on the implementation that involves a normal type stock - one that is based on the value of corporations or business entities.   There are other forms of stock that COULD work in a MC world, such as commodity stocks and bond stocks.  You could be "betting" or "Investing", which is all stock really is, on the value of a commodity such as quartz (EX: you bet the futures of quartz will go up so you buy up stock on it at its current price, then when 1.8 rolls around and the new minerals use it as a crafting component it's value will rise and you can sell at the higher price).  It wouldn't really need to be backed by anything because the market values are already basically set based on supply and demand anyway.  You could do the same thing with the value of diamonds or even the value of noobz themself relative to a dollar.  Lots of directions you could go here.

That said this would be ridiculous complicated, highly volatile, and probably an irresponsible thing to put on a family MC server.  Probably wont ever happen.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Make AH Chests buyable money sinks
« on: 20 Apr 2014, 19:18:40 »
I didn't even know about /auction lol.  That negates the deposit half then I suppose.  Maybe just withdrawl?  The idea was to not have to go to the auction house to do anything.

Not sure how difficult this would be to implement, but you could sell Auction House withdrawl and deposit chests for players to place in their homes for convenience.   Sell them for a ton of money like 100k.  Richer players would gladly pay for the convenience and status symbol, and it would be a good thing to act as a money sink to keep the economy more balanced.

They aren't going to add anything to the shop that can be auto-farmed.  It's just inviting abuse and afk-farming.

Can I suggest that next time you post event times that you post them in GMT.  GMT is the international baseline and everyone should know what their time zone is relative to GMT, whereas I didn't even know what BST was until I came to this server.  GMT would make it a lot easier for everyone to convert since our playerbase is kind of all over the place, and the staff wouldn't have to answer questions about what time events start every 10 minutes.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: X-Ray prevention consequences
« on: 15 Apr 2014, 21:23:40 »
Maybe after like 5 minutes of not seeing ores on the plots you could have asked the mayor what was up, like I did, and not wasted huge amounts of time.

In regards to this ore thing, it seems an awful lot like everyone is affected by this differently.  I hardly see it at all while some people seem heavily affected by it.  This makes it seem like the difference is client based.  Either mods or video settings or lag is causing different people to see different levels of problem.  If it was all on the server everyone would be complaining of the same problem more consistently.

Maybe it's because I use Sphax and optifine, but I haven't noticed this hardly at all.  I mine for like 8 hours a day and i think I've noticed it once for a millisecond.  I'm guessing this would be caused by Ore Obfuscator?  Not enough word from admins to know.  Not enough info!

Didn't expect a super detailed ETA but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.  Thanks for the response :D

Support / A question for the admins in regards to 1.8
« on: 14 Apr 2014, 03:18:17 »
I'm curious as to whether or not there is any kind of timeline or action plan for the server when 1.8 arrives.  Will the server migrate to 1.8 immediately?  Will it at all?  Do you have to wait for bukkit + every single plugin you have to be updated if it does?  I'm just trying to gauge any kind of ETA for noobstown migration to 1.8 when it drops if you guys do migrate.  New blocks coming out and some build plans could include them, so I'd love to know if it would be a relatively short wait post release or if it would take a very long time.

Thanks.

*1.7.5
Both 1.7.5 and 1.7.4 work.

All 1.7 should work fine.  I run 7.2 for modding standard.

News / Re: Heartbleed
« on: 10 Apr 2014, 18:31:16 »
It's not a virus it's a security hole in a commonly used encryption protocol.  It's just a hole.  In all reality the hole probably went largely undetected by most hackers and security professionals alike, so the volume of things impacted by this is most likely WAY smaller than people are making it out to be.   The hype gets exacerbated by the fact that 99% of people talking heartbleed are not IT professionals and have no idea what heartbleed is or what it does or what it's real impact is.  This is the digital version of the swine flu.

News / Re: Heartbleed
« on: 10 Apr 2014, 06:30:43 »
Dont misunderstand a vulnerability being present to everything being "hacked".  Heartbleed was just a vulnerability that effects the majority of the internet and means most of it that uses common encryption protocols was vulnerable, but not necessarily that 100% of those that were vulnerable were hacked or taken advantage of or mined or whatever.

While it's a good idea to change passwords to things that matter and keep an eye on your bank statements etc, I don't support media-type panic spreading with sentences like "2/3 of the internet was hacked" because thats just silly.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: This 2 plugins would be awesome!
« on: 4 Apr 2014, 03:56:08 »
Neat little plugins.  The tree thing is a cool aesthetic thing but I would gladly take treecapitate over that one if noobstown was going to implement any kind of tree felling plugin.

That combat one is whatever.  Noobstown isn't really PVP focused and those mechanics already exist in some of the weapons in Tinkers Construct.
