It would still be about infinite times better if they added mod support so that instead of having a few new blocks copy-pasted from old mods in 1 whole year, each server could add its own stuff whenever it's needed since they can already do that but it wastes a LOT of time >_>

They keep adding commands and parameters but it's still a wonky system that makes stuff way more complicated than what it needs to be. It's something, but it's not very much.

Even map makers don't rely on those when they can get away with anything else and keep using a third party program to edit most of the stuff. That's saying something.

It's fine having command blocks (that still can only run static scripts), horses (years after Mo'Creatures), colored glass (being asked since forever and still no colored lights, available since 1.3 with popular mods) and bouncy stuff (same as colored lights) but really...

Considering that they're launching the Realms I can't see how that's worth it when on the other hand you could have actual computers, different types of energy, fuel, more creatures than you could possibly ask for, proper transportation, mobile blocks and MUCH more. For free.

I'm not saying to directly add all that stuff but if they added the _support_ to do that, everyone would have a way easier time since it's alreay possible but it still comes down to borderline illegal practices.

At some point it was reported that a very popular mod platform was downloaded more times than the original client itself.

As much as I like the game, if they can't see the wasted potential they're utterly blind.
They could set up a mod shop and I'm sure I'm not the only one that would gladly pay for official support!
(let alone that with proper monetization mods would come out faster and more polished)

Attempts?! - I will invent some crazy new redstone contraptions, and somehow will probably rig my own basement with tnt.

What I'm going to do is something (two "things" actually) really interesting and hopefully useful with redstone that everyone in the town will be able to enjoy.

I had to tweak it a bit due to very recent changes in a very particular game rule that ended up letting me make it even more compact (hint: it involves players interaction, not redstone in itself).
All that is left is checking for timings due to possible lag and server specific gimmicks.

Actually, I'll add gold to my "I need quite a bit of" list.

So the trend of adding stuff taken directly from popular mods continues...

After all, why adding a proper mod support to a game that heavily relies on mods to provide a decent online experience when you can simply grab mod features and add them to your code? I'ts not like you need to give credits or money.

Enjoy the slime blocks :P

PS: Sorry, this was meant to be in the News section and not here ._.

I was hoping to finally see a date here >_>

Anyway, the biggest project I planned for the town I'll reside in (Dracomere) will require a lot of iron and wood and most of the building styles proposed were based on sandstone so a lot of mining and digging will be required.

As soon as I'll have the resources to setup a farming spot I guess I'll start helping out with the layout of the town. I won't post any detail now (the idea is 100% original and I'd like to have it done before spreading it around :P) but managing spaces will be a huge factor.

The design of most public buildings will include dragons so I'll need fancy stuff (colored glass, gold, lapis, etc) to give a bit of character to them.

I guess nobody got the joke so I'll explain it: trained monkeys to do the work while you do other stuff.

It wasn't meant as an insult to anyone... I never said you were the trained monkeys.

By "too far ahead" I meant that you are taking it for granted that everything will go according to the plan but you can't really predict how the server and the economy will turn out while it's offline.

I am curious as to how you are going to be able to run a town, a nation, and the 'first big business' all at the same time?

Two words: Time management
Trained Monkeys.

But really, the server didn't start yet and you're assuming a lot of things by planning too far ahead.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Implementation of Fair Mcmmo
« on: 31 Dec 2013, 13:36:38 »
Having played here without any sort of privilege, boost or help of any sort I can say that no matter how much you could "cheat" with mmoskills, you won't get anything major out of a "I'm in a Top 10".

Basically, bragging rights.

Up to date, I've seen top ranks being rewarded with minor/cosmetic stuff and with more of the same boosts.

So, if you paid to get a 2x boost, chances are you're not getting anything more than another similar boost or an extensions on VIP stuff that you already gained access by paying.

Since the economy has never really been based on mmoskills, I can't see a problem there.

About flying, as long as only the mods (and no VIP, Veteran, etc) can fly I can't see any problem.
As said, they _need_ to fly to do their job.

If any top rank ever received a free town, other land or a full chest of diamonds then I'd agree with the OP but this is not the case.

I have an Acer Aspire One with the following:
CPU: AMD Dual-Core Processor C-50 (1.0 GHz)
MEMORY: 2 GB DDR3 Memory
BATTERY: 6-cell Li-ion battery
STORAGE: 250 GB HDD
And it's all on a 13 inch screen

It would be great, except the dimwits who made the updates for the computer didn't make them compatible with Windows, which is the only thing I can run on my computer, so since I can't update, my computer has been going downhill fast. Just now, I logged on and was alarmed to see an error message saying the computer could not start up due to corrupted files, yet it couldn't find any corrupted files after half an hour of running diagnostics.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517.. I have the same problem you do, but when that happens I end up finding my way back onto the laptop, taking all of my important files off of my laptop and onto an external hard drive, and then factory resetting it.. However I am saving up for a new laptop.

I'm fairly sure both of you are aware of this already, but with a 1 Ghz CPU there is really nothing you can do other than trashing the whole thing (or set it up as a downloading machine working overnight).

"Upgrading" isn't an option there, not a signle piece of hardware in that list is comparable with anything made in the last 8 years for a desktop pc.
(technically the RAM should be, and the HDD could be a SATA and so it could be supported natively by a new mobo, but it's not a wise decision)

If you are students, consider asking your parents for a decent desktop that you can surely use for more important things other than gaming.
You can also get away with some specific licenses for otherwise expensive software thanks to your "status".

Ive tried updating it just today to windows 7 service pack and in the middle of the whole update it said i had to buy some stuff (and since i barely have any money cause i cant work since im too young to.. i cant buy anything) so trying to buy ram or buy a new pc will be very hard to do  :(

Even if you managed to upgrade Windows, that machine can't run Windows 7 in a decent way so there would be no point.

Short of handing out the equivalent of ~400€ for new components I'm afraid you can't do much else :(

Even the second test build still have problems with crashes and worlds needing backups in extreme cases so I wouldn't really expect the first version to handle stuff any better.

Crashes every 5 minutes seems more related to that server admins faults than to bukkit itself, anyway.

Not to crash your parties, but I wouldn't feel safe with anything being dragged on from a patchwork/legacy version since any following fix could result in previous data becoming garbage (mmoskills, other stats, builds, extra blocks, etc).

Remember! The Calendar is still on-going via the site and you can still keep picking up some tokens and other rewards during the Holiday season. Don't miss out!

This is whats most interesting where is this taking place

Since you posted, you are logged in. Look up on the website menu and you'll see a red "advent" link :P
That's where it's taking place.

Habemus Betam!

1.7.2. R0.1 is out and of course they are still doubting the stability of it all. Always better than a dev build :D

Now I'm becoming more and more puzzled by recent Mojang updates focusing on stuff that is not bugs, since there are still daunting horrors laying around >_>

Well i just get left with all the old computers my family uses, so the one right now is Windows Vista Home Premium.
Memory(RAM): 2.00GB
System Type: 32-bit operating system

^ This sums up the problem. Without upgrading your hardware the FPS will tank no matter what.
Adding more memory to Java isn't really going to do anything since there is no memory to work with and Vista isn't helping at all.

Getting a new GPU won't solve the problem, MC does 90% of the work on the CPU (and on 1 core).
Even an Intel integrated graphics chip is well more than enough for MC.
If you want to solve the problem, get anything able to run Win7 with 8GB of ram.
An i3 (sandy bridge) is more than enough, comes with integrated video and it's cheap.

Every time I hear alienware I cringe. They are about 2x the price it would be  to build it myself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that...

I'm using an i5 3570K, 8GB low voltage RAM, a cheap Radeon 7770xfx , Asrock MB and a 550w xfx power supply
Bought last year for less than 400€, silent, cool (I mean the temperature) and never got a problem with games of any sort.

With a 10€ USB decoder stick (I'm not even joking) I can watch DTV, listen to the radio, record whatever I want.

The only thing I'd change is the hard disk (that I didn't upgrade) since it's an old one and it's feeling its years of heavy duty.

Eh... where I live it rarely snow at all, mainly because when winter is coming it rapidly gets too cold very fast.

This time around there wasn't even any fog (pretty common problem here) at all, there's just that nice and comfortable layer of ice .-.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: New stat idea
« on: 6 Dec 2013, 15:15:45 »
All the above was already said in one or another :P

To avoid having the same set of stats representing different situations (thus being useless) you'd need to know:
-when a player death was caused by another player
-when a player killed mobs that were not the result of farming (impossible outside of an event, no matter what)
-when a player was in a dangerous situation and didn't die (generalization of the previous point and, again, impossible outside of an event)

PVE in particular is impossible to be tracked in a free world due to mob grinders.

The only sensible thing to do imo is setting up an arena (like the old one) where you do know that players are not safe and if/when they die.

If you start counting stats for people that are outside of those bounds you'll end up counting the non-deaths of people planting trees 24/7, those "killing the feet" of mobs from a dark room, etc.

Seriously, I hope that Mojang realizes they owe the success of Mincraft to plug-ins and plug-in systems like Bukkit. Minecraft would get dull fast if it weren't for the wide variety plug-ins available for players and server owners to use.

If anything they proved the opposite until now.

You are supposed to not look at the code, attempt reverse engineering and deobfuscation.
What you are supposed to do is use the API, texture packs, resource packs and console commands. Period.

When they added Dinnerbone to their ranks, given his background the community was expecting a change but that never happened... and we are waiting for a bukkit update every other month as a result.

« on: 5 Dec 2013, 13:27:15 »
Just for the sake of discussion, that last part is about MCMMO skills. Not vanilla MC.

I was talking about what MC can do without plugins and of course a proper plugin could be able to pull off a selective kill counter when handling spawner blocks.

The problem is still the same: with "spawner" I didn't mean an actual spawner block but simply a dark room with a controlled output (aka: a door) that lets you farm mobs from a safe position.
MC (plugins or not ) can't differentiate in any way between a "harmless" mob coming your way through a corridor and a "wild" mob encountered during a caving session.

There are already combat skills etc but they don't measure how good a player is at fighting/survival, just how much time was spent on striking stuff.
Same thing with knowing how many mobs a player killed.

Noobstown General / Re: Speaking of lag...
« on: 4 Dec 2013, 22:21:33 »
Well, as you said your machine isn't really that wonderful to play MC (or anything else really) but take into account that what you are experiencing is not lag.

Lag is entirely dependant on the server and on your connection.
If you see high latency it's lag, if you see low FPS it's just your machine being slow.

With MC the graphic card pretty much doesn't matter at all, unless you are loading higher quality textures.
The CPU on the other hand does most of the work and even a good one can be pushed hard by big worlds and lots of entities.

Even with a faster CPU, if the temperature get too high (~80°+) it will throttle down performances to avoid harm.

Anyway, if you are playing on 1.7+ servers with plugins right now, expect problems.

(I have no problem playing in single player, no optifine, 100% vanilla)

Slightly OT but land is most probably better bought with noobz instead of tokens.

There is no conversion of currency, you can farm noobz but not tokens, and there's stuff that you can't buy with just noobz. Just saying.

It's not really a surprise that 1.7.3 is coming out now. It's a normal update (this time) with pretty standard timing.

Having a Bukkit version coming out while the next version of MC is behind the corner isn't that extraordinary either...

Server Announcements / Re: Auction Preview
« on: 1 Dec 2013, 14:14:21 »
Even with texture packs and full graphics options you won't use up that much relative to other games. I almost never have solely minecraft open, I'll do two games at once, a web browser and something on VLC, and that's just on the main computer.

I guess multitasking comes naturally to me so it doesn't bother me.

It's still not that much more effort than a normal chest shop to sell stuff and you reach a larger, more competitive sales market where you can actually move the stuff. It's definitely way easier and more convenient on the buying end.

First part, disagreed.  Minecraft asks more of my computer on full graphics than for example, Battlefield 3 on max graphics.

Second part, it will take longer to buy stuff with an online auction system and, with the fluctuating prices that come with an auction system, also more expensive for people if they buy stuff in bulk, which as a result leads to fewer people starting big projects because they will be more expensive, and discourage a lot of people.

It's a matter of CPU over GPU usage.

Most _optimized_ games require huge horsepower from the GPU but tend to sit on one or maybe 2 cores of the CPU. Most modern CPUs have 4+ cores, that means that multitasking is easily done since the OS will automatically assign other cores to different tasks.

Minecraft on the other hand requires a lot of RAM to keep the world loaded and CPU time to check all the "ticks" from the game engine while any decent GPU (even a motherboard-integrated one) will most probably sit at 20% load.

This basically mean that if your system has enough RAM and a good cooling system you'll have no problem multitasking.

If your system instead is prone to overheating (most common problem with laptops) you'll experience CPU throttling and slowdowns.

Something like this was already proposed I think and the same thing as standard sky block applies: it would need to be on another world (like the event world) with no stardard terrain generation because players could simply get a water source, float down and cheat :P
