Noobstown General / Re: Day 1. V6 ~ What are your plans?
« on: 9 Jan 2014, 20:14:21 »
LOL Myrf.  I'll likely just familiarize myself with the spawn town, commands, and Water's redstone contraptions.  Try and find a nice wilderness spot to set up my home, and then just visit while I gather resources :).  From what I understand, moderation should be much easier without all the tediousness of v5, so here's hoping!

Aside from that, I should imagine my time will be helping out players to get a comfortable start into v6.

As Jack stated above: The server is currently down until v6 is made live for everyone to log in to.  Keep a watch on the Server Announcements section of the forums, as well as the news feed on the home page of the website here.  I'm certain that once v6 is released, you won't miss it if you frequent the site.  It's going to be like a 2nd Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, and Birthday all rolled up into one!

Hi there, Josh

Enjoying the new year and all the possibilities it holds for me :).  Just as eager as everyone else to see v6 up and running so I can get back to playing with the community.

As Harry suggested, it may be best for you to speak with someone at Mojang or perhaps search for an online tutorial video on the new launcher.  It can be a bit confusing but without seeing exactly what you are seeing, it's very hard to help you through the steps that would be necessary to troubleshoot.  Just try and contact their Customer Service or Help desk and they should fix you up :).

Server Announcements / Re: November Update!
« on: 17 Nov 2013, 15:46:54 »
When it comes to Minecraft, things have never been 100% stable.  I'm sure most of you remember the bugs, issues, and random weirdness that would happen on the server and us mods saying we had no idea lol.  Once the admins take a look at the build, weigh it's stability and known issues against potential losses and aggrivation of the player base, we'll be informed of what's going to happen.  It's ALL about making sure the players first experience with the new server is what it was promised to be with the announcement earlier this year.  I wish for nothing more than to play Noobstown with everyone again, but only if it will be enjoyable, lasting, and what it was always meant to be from the start:

"The best Minecraft online experience out there"

As Harry stated before, all previous bans will be removed and everyone will start with a fresh, clean slate!  We want to give everyone a new start for a new world, so be sure to keep all the rules in mind and follow them.  I hope to welcome you back to v6 once it is made live here soon.

Guides / Re: Super Fast Repair Level Raising
« on: 13 Jun 2013, 23:41:55 »
This is a valid way to level repair in my opinion.  As some people were using a cactus, and then fire to damage armor and then repair with a beacon.  It's not a glitch or an exploit.  You're just using a tool and then repairing it.  Of course, an admin would be the best person to ask as they can tell you with 100% certainty but I see nothing wrong with leveling repair in this manner as long as nothing you are doing is automated.

164
Hi there guys, let me see if I can explain some of these to you in greater detail.

An mcmmo breakdown can be found on the wikia of the plugin.  If you want to learn about a skill, what it does, or how to use it, that is the place to go and check on it.

Mining:  Double drops are meant to increase with your level of mining.  In fact, the rate at which you gain mining experience was accelerated at the early levels and progressively gets harder as you gain more skill.  I'm sorry you have an issue with the drop rates, but that's how it's been decided to be.  There's no reason or explanation I can give to you that you don't already know.  This will not be changed or modified.  Sorry.

TNT mining:  The reason for this is obvious.  TnT causes more than just griefing issues.   It can be used to potentially crash a server, destroy MASSIVE amounts of land in the mining world very quickly.  We don't want this.  It won't happen.

Unarmed, Axes, and Swords.  These three skills have always been difficult to level in noobstown.  It was intended to take a long time for these skills to grow and become more effective.  In v6, there may be modifications to the gain rates but as for now, there's no point in increasing, decreasing, or modifying them for general use against mobs.   The gain rate of the skill is the same for everyone, and in the same token, it's a non pvp server.  I'm sorry you feel this is silly, but for us, it's valid.

Excavation:  Often times I have found players buying full double chests of dirt and gunpowder for building fireworks displays.  Glowstone is still a widely used source of lighting.  Again, the skill is not something that is designed to please an individual player.  It's meant to be something that enhances the gameplay of everyone.    Having an issue with the skill because you think it's useless or silly is not a valid reason for us to modify it in anyway.

Fishing:  The shake ability is disabled and we're not sure why.  The only one that can fix that would be Fatnoob and he is aware that the skill is off.

These skills are put in place to enhance the server and compliment the gameplay to make it fun and enjoyable.  They are not meant to be easy to level, overpowered, and give you a massive advantage in a short amount of time.  The changes were made with the entire community in mind and for the betterment of the server.  We will take your opinions and suggestions into consideration, but please be patient and try to understand that the skills are not 'nerfed' or purposefully made 'silly' to upset anyone.  If you have issues with the base mechanics of the plugin, talk to the developer.  We cannot modify it.

EDIT: I should also mention that many of the skills will undergo changes for v6.

A few screenshots from today's tournament.  Thank you all for participating!  I hope to see you again next week.  I'll try and post up a time when I know more about when it can be hosted.

Last, but not least, apparently after the tournament, a few of the competitors spotted a big fish and tried to run him down!

The day started like any other.  My wife and I awoke to a breakfast of coffee and toast with no idea what would await us later that day.  We were building a few things on our LAN server together when I suggested we could play online with other people.  After playing many other online games together, we were both quite skeptical about joining others on a game where your constructions could be destroyed.  I had noticed the day before that PMC offered server lists with descriptions about each one.  Thinking that with a name like noobstown it would be perfect for us who were new to Minecraft, I talked her into joining with me.

Green.  All I could see was green text flying so fast across my screen that I couldn't keep up with it all.  We gingerly made our way through the tutorial, followed the steps and then, YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED! WELCOME TO NOOBSTOWN!.  After using /spawn, we were dazzled and greeted with a message board, a giant fountain of water and emerald, and a large city that we promptly got ourselves lost in.  I'm ashamed to say, but we spent about 30 mins trying to find our way out! It was quite daunting at first, but we pressed on and finally made our way out into the wilderness.

The chaos and ruins we saw didn't help to comfort us when thinking back on how our buildings could be destroyed.  A tip appeared on the screen mentioning that if you had been griefed, you could do /grief.  At the time, neither of us knew what the term meant.  Minecraft online was entirely new to us so I decided to pay a visit to the forums and try and find out what direction we should take in this large, new server.  The rules were posted and clear on what we were not supposed to do, and thanks to the guides that many took the time to write out, we quickly learned there was a server shop to earn money, and that we could harvest anything we needed from the mining world.  A mining 'world'? we thought.  There was a whole other area that was classified as a world!  How large could this server be?

The mining world was devoid of life.  No creature, and all of the trees had been harvested nearby.  We were at a loss at how to continue.  After asking a few times in chat, we were advised to try and build a 'farm' and that it would help us get started.  Many players suggested this or that, and most all were very friendly and inviting.  after a few days of gathering things in the mining world, we found a town that looked nice and clean.  A plot, a tree, and a few cobblestone later, we had a starting home to store our things.  We were off to a good beginning and thuroughly enjoying ourselves!

Time passed, we built a home and even took it upon ourselves to make a public tree farm for everyone to use in the mining world!  Our fellow players were thrilled and most respected the farm.  It was put to good use, and we even made some friends that started assisting us in building bigger and better things for everyone to enjoy.  We mined, and learned more about the skills and different features the server had to offer.  We watched the staff handle situations and players with patience and kindness.   I grew to respect them all.  it wasn't often that I had met other gamers online that were as nice as these people were.  Firm, and kind, but often times busy and swamped with questions and pleas for help.  I took it upon myself to try and offer assistance.  I felt sorry that there was so many lines of text being thrown at them each day.  And then, the event that made me decide to become a moderator happened.

An argument arose in chat.  A player had been scammed and did not receive an item that they paid for.  I calmly asked what the issue was, and offered my own items in exchange for a bit of forgiveness and patience in the matter.  I explained that pixels on a game weren't worth getting that upset over, and that if it would make things right, they could have mine.  I began to pick up stray questions here and there, offer my home as a farm to those who needed it, and offered my services in helping solve minor disputes when they arose and no staff member was online.  Respect was always given, but not always taken, and I just had to leave it be, but it didn't deter me.  TwistedLover and I spoke on occassion about how certain rules were enforced, and what I should do in a situation involving respect.  I told her that I wanted to help make the server better, that I enjoyed it so much and everyone was so nice to me, I just wanted to return the favor.  She suggested I fill out a staff application on the forums.  I was skeptical as I had only been on the server for a short while, but I said I would give it some thought.

I spent the next week observing the server's members and staff closely and didn't really speak out much unless someone needed help or had a question.  There was some rennovations going on in our current town and by chance, my home needed to be removed and tore down, along with the public tree farm I had made with shop chests for everyone to use.  Saddened, I began the deconstruction of my home to make way for the new road, but this event brought about a surprising offer.  Dragonfire offered to give anadence and I 8 plots together to build on.  I was stunned.  I never thought we'd have such a large, protected area to build on.  With a sad fairwell and about 40 chests later, we left our first town and moved in to Dragonfire.  Construction on the house began immediately and before long, we had a massive Log Cabin style home with two floors and a storage basement.

The rebuilding of my home gave me the final nudge, along with some friends poking me, to place my staff application online for Waterworth to view.  I spent the better part of the day writing and revising what I wanted to say, but eventually I got it typed out and submitted for everyone to view.  My chances of becomming a staff member after only being on the server for a month were slim, but I felt that even if my application was denied, maybe my words could inspire others to understand that being a staff member was more about being a servant, than receiving an award or prestige.  A strong desire to help and an iron wall of patience thanks to my children served me well it would seem because before long, I was contacted and interviewed for the position.  I continued helping those as I did before, trying to do what I could to make the server a more enjoyable place, not only for myself, but for everyone.  Out of the blue, and I dare say a bit of smoke and an explosion of light, teh supah admeen appeared before me!  Ok, it wasn't quite that grand, but Waterworth chose me to become the next member of the mod team!  Overjoyed and truly surprised, I graciously accepted and started on my path to better the server and her community to the best of my capability.

It wasn't long after I was made a staff member that Anadence and I got to experience our first server holiday event.  Noobween.  100% complete awesomeness.  Spawn was transformed into a halloween styled display of webs and fall colors.  Herobrine was making guest star appearances around noobstown causing players to become quite intoxicated and the entire community was in high spirits for the festivities.  We had a huge drop party and a massive pvp arena event for everyone to enjoy.

Noobsmas came quickly after.  An advent calendar and many presents and christmas trees sprang up all over noobstown.  The spirit of giving was with everyone as drop parties were being held all month, and Father noobsmas flew around the towns tossing out presents for everyone to chase after.  The most amusing part was the screenshots we took.  ***r Noobsmas looked like he was running for his life with a mob of players chasing after him.

Members joined, and good friends left or moved on to other things.  Laughter, joy, and sadness and tears.  We experienced them all as the server reached it's 2nd anniversary and we discovered that in the summer months to come, a new version was to be released.  Mixed emotions flooded the community as everyone tried to understand and cope with the changes that were to be made to everything we had grown accustom to here in v5.  Many were unable to bear the thought of parting with their builds, towns, and wealth they had accumulated over the course of the year, but we pressed on and have recently enjoyed events and a sort of bonding with those who have chose to stay.  We look up with our eyes wide, eager for what is to come.  We greet it now with wonder and anticipation and hopes to build greater memories, and an even greater community.

In v6, I have played around with the idea of creating a town simular to what Dragonfire is today in v5.  A free and open community for those who wish to be social and aide one another in making the community a better place.  Should I decide against that, I'll likely join with DadJaeger or Debo in their town recreations and build a large villa out in the wilderness.  My ultimate goal is to create a puzzle dungeon for players to crawl through and find hidden treasures.  And let's not forget the fishing competitions!  I hope to continue to serve the community as a staff member to make everyone's online minecraft experience better than mine first was.

I will leave you with some photos of my time spent on Noobstown.

We stopped giving out that information because players were using it to threaten and harass the player in question over griefing small areas.  It is the staff member's job to warn and punish according to server regulations when it comes to rule breaking.  If you have this sort of mod, I would suggest uninstalling it now.  Please do not threaten or make suggestive innuendo towards your fellow players regarding rule infringement.  It's neither polite or called for.  We respect everyone here on noobstown, even those who do not give us respect.

Hello again everyone!

We had an awesome turnout for the last fishing competition so we have enlarged and improved the fishing docks for everyone to enjoy!  There is now a salvage block as well as a hidden enchanting room! (See if you can discover it!)  The next competition will have the same rules as before.

1) No building or destroying in the fishing area.
2) No items other than fishing rods and food (Other than fish)
3) No interfering with other competitors.  You must stay in your fishing 'box' until the competition is over, or you have won.  This means you need to stand on one of the iron blocks placed in the docks to fish.  You may step out to buy another rod or string to repair.  Those leaving the dock area will be disqualified.
4) Listen to the host!  Be in /ch L and listen to the staff member or player hosting the event.  Be kind, courteous and above all else, please don't cheat for yourself or for others.  These include but are not limited to:  Sharing catches, using fishing mods, bringing pre-caught fish.

No need to sign up or register, just be online and ready to go when the tourney starts!

Times for Sunday's event will be:

8PM BST
3PM EST
2PM CST
12 noon PST

Catch 64 fish before the others and you could win these prizes!

The quote that I posted regarding chunky was from a previous post on v6.  Fatnoob has since decided to give players 10 free chunks to start with instead of one.  Each chunk you purchase is protected as high and as low as you can build.  From bedrock to sky.  10 chucks would be 10 16 x 16 squares.  However you choose to buy them.
