Support / Re: Could I be banned?
« on: 10 Sep 2012, 04:09:13 »
Optifine is just fine to have and use on noobscraft, as is Rei's minimap.  It's a good idea to check with a Moderator or ADMIN if you wish to install other mods first, though.  I moved your topic to support, as the ban appeal section is only for those that have been banned from the server and wish to appeal.

The problem as of right now is that the login servers for Mojang are down.   They should be back up soon, as they are never down for too long at a time.

Noobstown General / What kind of house do YOU like?
« on: 8 Sep 2012, 19:31:26 »
I'd like to take a poll, and hear what YOU find to be the most interesting type of house!  Do you like modern style homes, log homes, futuristic homes, or just something completely different?  Reply, and describe your perfect home here.

It's ok, Losty0.  Everyone has a misunderstanding at times.  We are human, and therefore we are more than likely bound to misinterpret or mess up on occassion :)

I'll give you a hint:  you'd be surprised what you might find in the world of Noobtown, if you look.  Exploration is half the fun of playing on a game like this.  I've found beautiful mountain castles and strongholds, as well as hidden valley's filled with the most beautiful temples and gardens I've seen yet.  Just take a moment to look around, and appreciate the true beauty that goes into each block placed.

I removed the poll from your topic teela2.  I visited the store and it was a lovely building.  I hope you get some business!

It's not a 100% that anything will be returned, but it's worth a shot to let other's know they're not the only one's with this bug.  I myself was killed quite a few times this evening due to the bug.  I lost some nice items as well.

Please be patient while we try and work through this.  The Mod's have no control and I don't think the problem itself is with the server, but with some of the plugins and perhaps, Bukkit.

Oh that is fantastic.  Thank you supersourmonkey.  I'll have to check that out once I'm back in game to see if it gives me what I'm looking for.

Market Place / Re: /shop
« on: 19 Aug 2012, 09:29:05 »
/Shop should be left in place to keep a level on the economy.  Without some form of solid base, the server's economy could collapse if a large enough group of players got together to inflate or bottom out something.  (granted, I'm sure an admin or Mod would take steps to prevent that from happening)
I think the buy prices on the /shop are good.  a hefty margin above what an item is really worth.  Some of the /sell options could be modified a bit.  Adding redstone as a cash commodity would be wonderful for inventory space, but the price of selling it would have to be ridiculously low.  Perhaps 2nbz/5redstone  or something of that nature.  I agree that not all things should be added to the /shop buy or sell though, as it will keep that incentive for players to frequent market district more.   So my vote on the poll should be split 50/50 :)

Moderator Application

Duelcon
Age: 30
CST (Central Standard Time)

     Greetings Noobscraft!

After much consideration, (and a few pokes and prods from fellow members) I have decided to apply for Moderatorship.  I have been a leader in a few on line gaming guilds, a youth leader for a church, a father, and a grandfather for the past 10 years of my life.  These positions have tempered my patience and given me a much different perspective and outlook on why people do things the way they do. As with any group of people, be it children, adult, or senior, troubles will arise.  It was my job to handle these troubles in a manner that kept everyone calm, and solved the issue, rather than just 'laying down the law'.  I feel with a server built and governed in such a wonderful manner as this, your current moderators and Admins fill this role perfectly, and such a mentality is needed not only to keep the server as friendly and inviting as it is now, but also to make sure everyone's game experience is the best it can possibly be.

Why do I want to be a moderator?  Why would ANYONE want to be a moderator?  The amount of troubles one must deal with can be overwhelming.  Having to tell another player they are no longer welcome on the server because they chose to ignore the rules can be heartbreaking not only to them, but to the one that has to tell them, "I'm sorry, but no"  It's not an easy task, regardless of what it may look like on the outside for someone who has never been in a position of leadership.  I suppose leadership is the wrong word here.  Being a servant of the populace seems to be a more fitting description.  I would like to take up this position to assist those wonderful admins and Mods who have worked so hard to keep the server running smoothly.  People today need this kind of environment to remind them that there are good games out there for people looking to be social and have a good time without all the grief and ugliness the world can throw at you in other games.

I'll stop writing a 1000 page book now and conclude with this.  To those who apply like myself, be sure you understand what you're asking for by becoming a moderator.  Even if you are not a moderator and just a regular member; Patience, kindness, and understanding how the other person feels will get you further in life than wishing for a giant ban hammer to smack them in the face.  Thank you for your consideration of my application.

EDIT:  Forgot to state my hours played per day.  I'm usually on around 10 hours give or take a few everyday.  I am frequently afk during the noon hours as I must check on the baby however.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: NoobsTown Book Store :D
« on: 16 Aug 2012, 16:49:10 »
This is a fantastic idea that holds many possibilities when it comes to improving the over all quality of the server.  Stores, Libraries, ect...  Eventually, I hope they will make bookshelves like containers to hold books that have been written and what not.  Should you need help with publications, or materials in creating this project, please be sure to /msg me in game or send me a PM here through the forums.

EDIT:  One thing though, how would / could we monitor the written books to make sure the content is appropriate and suitable?  Would you want to mass produce books to sell so players can keep?  Or set up a buy / sell system that has the same prices so the book is 'rented' and then returned for the same amount it was purchased for?  A few things that came to mind.

Hello there!

I'm Duelcon.  My wife and I started playing on this server about 10 days ago.  While I'm only 30 years old, I have a granddaughter who's only 3 and that is my pride and joy.  (My wife is older than I am, but for my health and safety, I'll not say how old she is)  We have 3 children who are all over 18 now so I stay at home and tend to my baby girl.  Anadence and I have a 3 - plot home with a tree farm located in Kingdom if you'd like to come by and take a look!  We can have cake and coffee on the balcony :).

Noobstown General / Re: Rules

Remember that this is the internet, where virtually anyone has access to it.  Giving out IP Addresses are not only advertising other servers, but could lead to potentially damaging or inappropriate material as well.  We're not saying this is what you did in this case, just trying to explain what average members think of the rule.

as a witness to this incident, I should say that the comment you made about showing respect when you get an answer.  I did not screenshot this, so I don't know the exact words, but I do remember the text having an snippy tone to it.  You may not have intended it to be that way, but that is a common flaw with trying to converse through text.  It can be taken the wrong way very easily and read multiple different ways to mean different things.  THIS is probably why the two mods sent you a warning message.  To get you to go back and review what you typed and try to convey your feelings in a different manner.

« on: 14 Aug 2012, 04:45:58 »
The MODs and Admins CAN ban you for anything they deem to be unfit for the server.  Should you have a disagreement with said ban, you can appeal.  Use your common sense.  If you think it's wrong, don't do it.  If you think it might get you banned even though it's not in the rules, don't do it.

EDIT:  Just becasue the CAN ban you doesn't mean they will.  Often times I've seen them give multiple warnings.  Just because they have the patience of saints doesn't mean you should test them, though.

Looking over your ban appeal, I see where you brought that up, but it was countered so I'm not sure.  Maybe Waterworth could take another look at your ban and perhaps review what has happened between now and then?  I see where he said the ban would stand and the topic was locked, so there may not be anything you can do at all.

I've tried Dokucraft Light, Dark, and HIGH but didn't care too much for the cartoony look.  And my endstone turned into fish eggs hehe.  I'll have to have a look at Custom though and see if I like it more.  I did like the door textures of the previous three.
I don't really like the LB photo texture pack, and all the realism stuff, it hurts my eyes man lol.

I can understand the LB not being for everyone.  It is a little intense on the eyes.

smooth texture. because its smooth. its simple.

That it is!  I've actually tried that one and use it on my laptop that's older than dirt.

Before 1.3 I was using Faithful 64x64. I really like that it wasn't too different from default. Using default right now and I must say, it's not too easy on the eyes.

I've looked at Faithful before, didn't care to much for the screenies, but it's worth taking a second look at.

Thanks for all the interesting and helpful feedback on the texture packs you like most!  I have to say I've seen some very 'out there' ones, and Misa's still has to be my fall back.  but keep throwing those ideas my way!  Let's see what Texture pack you find to be the best and tell me why!

I see both sides of the equation here.  A warning would be nice, but following the first rule of reading the rules should also be taken into account.  If you start bending the rules, the entire structure will break and fall to corruption and favoritism.  The sever wouldn't be as stable as it is without those rules being strictly enforced with a no tolerance attitude.  As for your particular case, I read over the ban appeal and again, I see your side of the story, but not being present, seeing the exchange for myself, and not being a Moderator, I can really have no judgement on the issue at hand.   Try to understand, these rules are in place to improve the quality of the entire server's game experience.  If you do not read the rules, and you break one, then the punishment you receive is just, as the rule is already there for you to access and know.

That being said, whether said rules are fair or 'right' isn't something up for debate.  It's their server, their rules.  If you do not agree to such rules, you have the right to find another server to move along to.  If they choose not to explain why they have said rule, it is again, their right to do so, and you are not obligated to have any further dealings with them.

I agree that there should be a more clear explanation of where to find the rules.  Mayhap a change in the /rules that gives the expanded details of each rule, or at least it directs you to the forum board to review the full list.  It took me a bit to get the hang of the server, and find the full rules detailed and layed out, but I also took an active role in searching to make sure I didn't oppose the guidelines of the Admins and their server.

Our suggestions can be read, and taken into consideration, but ultimately it is the owner of the server's decision on how to run the world.
