If you don't like the MC rain then you're perfectly fine to Google what's known as Optifine, it not only helps increase your client's FPS but it also can turn off weather completely so you won't ever even know it's raining. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the rain was put back in because people were complaining that it was off. When we first had it on people complained to turn it off, then they wanted it back on again, now people are wanting it back off. At this rate it's going to have to stay either one or the other and people are going to have to simply settle with what they get.

And the special commands and access to Adminshop is not "a bit more" than normal users? That by itself is a very huge bonus that VIPs and Veterans have access to that regular users do not.
Just because you donated to the server doesn't mean we're going to give special treatment. We don't unban because someone is VIP/Veteran, we don't give out our items because someone is VIP/Veteran, and we certainly don't treat them like they're royalty.
A VIP/Veteran is simply someone who has donated to the server, and while we respect and are grateful for it, we're not going to treat them better because they had money while another member either didn't or didn't have a parent who was willing to donate for them. That would just be rude and disrespectful towards those that didn't have favorable circumstances to donate, because I know many wonderful members who would donate but their parents won't let them, or because they have no income to donate with in the first place.

There's the server shop, /buy gunpowder #, but that's usually sold out these days due to the amount people buy for fireworks.
You can get gunpowder from creepers, but mobs don't spawn that well right now so that's not a good source. You can also get them from ghasts, but again that's rather hard to get a stable source from.
There is one source that is available on this server however: Gravel. With MCMMO Excavation skill you get access to gunpowder drops from gravel at level 75. This is perhaps the single-best way to get gunpowder. But you can't get it from placed gravel, only gravel you find while mining and such.

I disagree because it's more fun not knowing when he'll be visiting. It's more of a chance that you'll be on at the time that Noobmas visits, therefore more people have a chance of being on when Noobmas is on because it could be anytime instead of only at that time.
If it was at a specific time then there would be people who could not come on at that time period, such as if they have a job or they're forced to bed by their parents. It wouldn't be very fair to them. While it can make it hard right now with there not being a set time for Noobmas, it still lets more people be there when Noobmas actually does come on instead of a set time.

That's a very genius idea Diggy, perhaps you could even contact Lawrence personally to try to discuss something like this. I'm sure he'd love to talk with someone who has a good idea for bettering the chat, since from what I remember he maintains the chat plugins and would love better ways to deal with the censors and such within it.

That's not what I meant. I mean if a vast majority of people who regularly go on the server don't check it, then when people put a lot of time and effort into making their thread for selling their home they're wasting their time.
Most people who go on the forum already have a home they love, live in a town they won't move from, or any number of things. From what I can see, there's very few people who'd actively hunt for a new home and while they may look at the thread thinking "Hm, that's very nice, very good job making that" I don't think many would actually jump and try to buy it.
It would just be putting time and effort into something people may appreciate a bit, but wouldn't overall get you any big benefits because the right people simply aren't perusing the forums for homes. Not to mention a lot of people would probably simply hire a builder to make their home, or would make it themselves.

This does sound like a good idea, one of the big problems I see with it though is that a lot of people don't actually use the forum.

I agree, this sounds like a much better idea. It might be troublesome to do, but we could also compile a list of ways people get around the censors to add that in as well so people can't use those as well.
I've seen people space out the word as well as dot and such. The more of those we could ban overall the less chance there would be profanity overall, although any determined person will get around it.

Not really. I'll do something like "*Smacks*" and that's not cursing at all? Also people will do "*wordhere" for when they're "spell-checking" themselves in chat, so that people understand what they said was misspelled.
You may not notice when you use "*" for something, but people actually do use it for well-meaning things. And it would be very aggravating each time you wanted to use it for something normal that you can't and you have to go back and fix your entire comment to edit out every "*" that was in it. Doing this multiple times a day would make even my patience wear thin over such a silly thing.

Yes, there are still glitches such as: Being able to x-ray, flying, invisibility, etc even with normal pistons. So Fatnoob and the admins cannot put the pistons back in with such severe glitches as this involving them.

We already have this, it's called the "Report Users" section. It seems to do the job rather nicely.

The problem with /plot clear would still remain. A town mayor could still go around and /plot clear all their plots, and the lag would hit the server as each plot struggles to return itself block by block to what it was before the town claimed it. And from what I remember, /plot clear has only been used to unlock signs and doors. I believe it had been /town unclaim, which returned a plot to what it had been before, which would mean that that command would have to be restricted to mayor only, limiting what those below the mayor can do period.
I believe that's something to do with Lockette. I've heard Foob mention it before, but I don't know if it's something he controls or just something that happens that he can't mess with because it's just in the plugin. I have, though, come across chests that hadn't been accessed for nearly 150 days that were still locked, so it doesn't always remove the lock on its own it seems like.

Don't you remember the episode with, I believe the town was called Oakhaven? The entire town was destroyed and because of the plots within the town being rolled back to wilderness the entire server was lagged to the point the admins had to shut it down and let the town rollback on its own or else nobody could do anything.
If we still had that function implemented when Forthwind went down we would have had the incident all over again, the admins having to shut the server down to let the town return to normal. I believe this is the main reason that they admins have kept this function out.
Also, no one can be assured that a town mayor is entirely trustworthy with this. Who's to say that a mayor won't just /plot clear plots of players they don't like, and since you said yourself the items drop out of the chests then they'd have full access to stealing items from player's chests. It's bad enough we've already gotten reports of a mayor or two supposedly kicking people from town to get the materials they used to make their town, thinking that they could also use something to steal from their chests too is just too much.
The reason that moderators do not give out items from chests anymore is because we weren't supposed to from the beginning, we simply didn't know that until the admins pointed it out. The items do not belong to the town, nor do they belong to anyone but the account to which the chest is registered to. Therefore no one has the right to simply take the items that another player has put tons of effort into, it's almost the same as theft, even if the person is still not around.

The only comment I have on this really is the whole "shop should be taken out completely". What would people do with all the cobble/dirt/wheat/potato/carrot/sugar they collect up? The farming business would be completely erased, because no one buys from chest shops for them. I would know this personally, I sold produce at one point in time, and no one bought from me. They only wanted to sell.
If the shop was taken out fully then people would just have a bunch of useless cobble and dirt that they throw away like in normal SP (Which I did, when I wasn't using it to build something. And since this is a server, pretty much most people already have their home and just want rid of the stuff). This means that they're wasting items that could have been used to get even .5N each, which when you think of how much cobble and dirt you get normally, that's quite a shocking loss of profit.
Mass-selling things that people can easily get themselves, like dirt, cobble, and farm produce, it just doesn't work with chest shops. The government in the USA has to actually pay farmers to produce foods because it doesn't sell. If it didn't pay them they'd literally be losing thousands of dollars and not be able to live at all. So trying to force people to sell through chest shops won't work. It doesn't work in the real world, it won't work in a game where it's even easier for people to get the produce items, especially from town farms.
Overall I believe the global shop should stay for simple things like farming products, dirt, and cobble, because hardly anyone will buy mass amounts of these, and the other stuff could just stay in chest shops because we don't need to be able to do /buy clay 1000, or whatever we want to buy. It makes it more interesting to go out and hunt it down yourself, or get it from someone else.

It's already been proven on the server multiple times that marriage is not a good thing for this server. People have been "married" on this server before within their towns and such (Not by a plugin) and almost within a few days they get into a fight and "break up" and both participants are angry with each other and upset as well. Usually over simple things from what I remember, like "Oh she wanted to move in" or "He wanted to move my things in my house to how he wanted them".
It's not a necessity to have a plugin devoted only to marriage and such, there have been enough problems from people jumping into "marriage" by themselves without the help of a plugin to make it more "official". We've had a lot of marriages at one point in time, and almost within the week they were all divorced. So from what I can see, we'd only have people getting "married" with this plugin, and then dropping said "marriage" within the week, because they decided they no longer wanted it.

The main problem with this belief is that if people aren't going to change their behavior with threats of temp bans and a permanent ban, why would they change their behavior just by being told to "be quiet"? That's like instead of punishing someone you just give them a slap on the wrist. That actually encourages the behavior, because they know they will not be punished when they do something wrong.
Many times over we have tried to talk things out with a member who is misbehaving. The result? They continued to do so until it exhausted those in the global chat and they were telling the patient mod that the person simply deserved a ban already because they weren't changing. Trying to talk things out doesn't work in situations like these, the only remedy we really have is a threat of punishment, i.e. a temporary or permanent ban.
It is true that members going "Oooo, you said X word, I'm going to tell a mod!" is wrong, I hardly see anyone doing that. So I don't know where you're seeing this, because I hardly see that at all. I have of course seen people tell others to stop griefing, or stop cursing before they tell a mod. In which case this is appropriate for them to do, because it is a very serious thing for the person to be doing, and it's not "tattle-telling". All they're doing is trying to help out a person realize that what they're doing is wrong, and if they don't then they're helping the mods by pointing out said person so the mods can try to stop them or punish them if they don't stop.
I don't really see any spam in the "report users" forum. I only see a new thread in there perhaps 1-2 times a week, which is far less than what we used to have when we had less mods here. And almost every thread in there is legitimate and not "tattle-telling" at all. Simply mature members helpfully getting screenshot proof for mods to see that someone has been breaking the rules while a mod was perhaps AFK, or no mod was there at all, so that the person doesn't get away without any punishment for the behavior.
Lastly, this is a family-friendly server, period. As such any bad-language is not tolerated, considering we've had people on here as young as six years old. They don't need to see any bad language, especially on something like a friendly server where they're just here to play. We also don't need their parents to be glancing over their shoulder, or playing beside them, and seeing that people are frequently using curse words. If they see that then they'll want their child to stop playing on the server, for fear that they'll start to pick up and use the words. We don't want people to have to be subjected to seeing foul language on the server, nor for them to have to stop playing because their parents saw such language being used on here.

The main reason I have heard from Fatnoob for why the prices in the global shop were dropped, and for why there are not a ton of items in the shop, is so that people will go more towards chest shops and therefore those who run chest shops will have a better chance of staying in business.
It helps keep the server going naturally, and the members themselves would get to put prices on all the various items, instead of having to simply go with what an admin deems is "appropriate".

Again the problem with only mods seeing that channel is that they have absolutely no help whenever a mod isn't online, or the mod is AFK, or extremely busy to respond.
Although if people could choose on their own to join the channel and help out when guests ask questions that might work. But then again there would be moments where everyone online chose to simply leave that channel, leaving the guest helpless.
271
« on: 9 Nov 2012, 01:05:35 »
Well at the same time it wouldn't be fair towards guests that actually have questions. Like those that have issues with registering, or they want to get opinions of the server before actually making a choice on whether they want to spend the time registering and getting involved.
It's a two-sided coin here, and if we turned off the ability for them to talk period then they'd never be able to ask these questions. And it would be unfair to suggest that they could simply private message moderators or use /helpop, since moderators are not always online, and then that would mean when a mod isn't online the guest has absolutely no way to contact anyone else and they'll get fed up with being unable to get help.

Actually despite the fact that we updated to 1.3 so fast, I don't really think some of our plugins have even updated to 1.3 yet even though we're now at 1.4. So it does take quite a while for plugin developers to get things updated and such.

I've said before that installing something that "blocks" x-ray would create intense lag. And even if you manage to block the mod, people will create their own texture packs and do it that way.
I once had it explained to me that you could download and install something that would check if a person has invisible blocks, and then it would replace those blocks with say lava or obsidian, so that's all you saw. But that caused such intense lag because it had to check every block every person had, and when you imagine that times our daily of around 70 people? The lag we have now would be a small blip on the scale compared to that.
From what I can see, there's nothing we can do that would not cause intense lag. Which no one wants.

They would be disappearing because of Clag, which every so often will erase all the mobs on the server. This is to prevent there be an overabundance of mobs everywhere completely lagging the server. Mob spawns in 1.3 have been completely broken, and they spawn too much and the spawn limits don't stop them from spawning for some reason.
So therefore to keep mobs being able to spawn we had to implement Clag so that we have a way to regulate the spawns, I'm assuming at least until spawns can be fixed, presumably in 1.4.
