I'm glad to hear you like it Danniel! I popped in at Blackthorn a day-two ago and I have to say I thought it looked wonderful. I loved the water slides first off, and then the golden "1" there was really nice. I like how it was set-up so people could view it from like a walkway around it. Very brilliant planning there. ^^ I intended to explore more around it, but I'd had to pop back in at DragonFire to help with some things. I do like some of the houses I saw. the one I remember the most was something that looked like... something like a space-pod thing. That was really cool.

I'm glad to help however I can. There's some more stuff that I thought you would like to know about how the shop works. Here's data values about the different items in Minecraft: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_valuesNow say that you were wanting to sell something like... Lapis (The drop, not the block or ore). You might think that all you have to do is put "Lapis Lazuli" as the name for the item to sell. This is actually not true, if you do this you'll instead have the shop think that you're wanting to sell the block, and any Lapis drop you put in the chest won't sell. The way around this is data values. You'll want to do this instead "351:4". This is because Lapis is a dye in Minecraft, and it has a strange data value. This data value means it's number 4 of the item "351", which is the "dye" item. While the sign may say something like "Ink Sac: 4" or "351:4", don't worry. All you'd have to do is put a sign by it saying "Lapis Lazuli" to let people know what it is. Another example is say you want to sell Pine Planks, or Jungle Planks. The regular Planks data value is "5". Looking at the extra data value for which one is Pine and Jungle, you'll see that Pine is "5:1" and Jungle is "5:3". Any thing that has different types like this can be sold in this method. Things that can be included in this are: Logs, planks, leaves, coal/charcoal, saplings, wool, dyes, slabs/double slabs, sandstone, and stone brick.

I'm terribly sorry that I haven't been on! I've been working on a project from 9AM to nearly 12PM, and then I had classes from then until a few minutes ago.
I'm also waiting nervously by my phone for a call from a company that wants to job interview me for the summer, so I've been trying to get in contact with them since I got off classes.
I'm glad to see that you're already in the town however! I hope that you've been set up with a plot and some money to start you off? If not I can zip on and start working on clearing out some plots for you!

Although selling back to someone only works if the sign is set up so that they buy items from other users instead of just selling.
You can check whether someone buys something as the third line on the sign will look something like this: "B 26 :26 S"

Are you absolutely sure that they were kicked because they could not pay their plot taxes and that it's not that someone had manually kicked them from town?
Because from my understanding towny only makes you lose your property (It becomes unowned NOT for sale, which I'm grateful for because like Alba said you can hold property to give back to someone), it has never kicked a resident from my town because they could not pay.
If, of course, you don't want your residents to have to pay taxes daily you could do /plot set plottax 0 (With "plot" in "plottax" being replaced by "shop" "embassy"/etc. to set the plot tax for each type of plot).
But I really don't think it was because they couldn't pay taxes they were kicked, I don't think you can set towny to do that, only to lose plots. So I'm more inclined to think someone kicked them.
TA/Mayor can see when the day turns to a new one in the real world on the server who couldn't pay taxes and lost their plots. I'm not sure how to check that outside of just being there and seeing it in the chat, but it does show it in the chat when you're on and it occurs.

Ahh, I get what you mean now. I'd thought you meant everywhere but in towns there'd be PVP on. xD

What marketplace was it? Was it something like Myrf's shop? Or was it like a global shop?

But then there would be the problem of PVP being on everywhere in the wilderness in the main world. And lots of people live in the wilderness.
A better thing would be to have separate PVP settings for towns and the main world. Then there wouldn't be any clashing between the main PVP settings and town ones.

I also believe that this would be good to implement. There are many hours that I'm on and there's no mod on, and just last night a few of my residents needed some locked things unlocked and they couldn't do it because there was no mod (And I am not mayor obviously, so I couldn't try /plot clear) on.
There was also someone who skipped town just a day-two ago and left all their items and plots. I of course dutifully went about taking down the plots so someone else could take it. They came back after I was done complaining about me having tore their plots down and collected their items to put in free chests for the town to have.
They claimed I was a griefer because of it, and I simply replied that they had left town without notifying me in the slightest or even asking me not to do this (If they had asked me to let them collect their stuff and such, I would have. They did NOT.) so therefore I had absolutely no obligation to leave their plots and let them collect their items.
Having a server-wide rule of having to clean up your plot before moving would remove these inconveniences, and perhaps make people really have to choose which town they want to pick because it would mean a lot of work to move. Less town-hoppers, in my opinion.

Had two more things I wanted to say.
2. If you could add anything to the server what would you add and why? -The End resetting. If we have a daily Ender Dragon, over a month that is 28 (30 depending on the month) dragon portals scattered around the End. And in that month we will have people scouring the End mining up all they want of End Stone, the Obsidian from the towers, etc.
Can you see where this is going? The End should have a reset time just like the Mining World. The End is infinitely smaller than the Mining World, meaning it can be trashed much quicker. I'd suggest resetting the End monthly, just like we do with the Mining World. It only makes sense if we reset one that we reset the other too.
-Nether lag. I only ever entered the nether once in my time on Noobs and in that time it was so laggy I could hardly even take a step without it taking half a minute to move. I stayed around probably two minutes wondering what the heck was causing so much lag before I bailed back to the regular world.
I would like this problem to be fixed or something to be done about it. I know some towns have outposts in the nether, but there's nothing against paying money out to the towns and giving them forewarning to collect up all their items if what we need is a serious reset of the nether. Towns can always remake outposts with the monetary compensation for this very purpose.

Like I said, we could just add something so the chances to get specific enchantments are extremely high, making it less waste of levels for us. I'm sure there's a plugin where you can choose enchantments that you really want and if you have the levels for it it'll give you it. Not sure how it would work if you wanted to put multiple enchantments on it though.
And you must not be selling to the right people. I'd say instead try to put something up on the forum's marketplace about the pick. Usually people who look at the forums are intelligent enough to understand something's worth, especially if you explain it out. You can also explain better on a forum post than in the regular chat.

I dislike the idea of it being incredibly easy to get exp. Enchantments are rare right now, which makes them worthwhile. People who put the effort in to get their levels up are then rewarded by being able to sell the enchantments they get for nearly 10k (Depending on each enchantment), or they can use the enchantment for themselves. It's a sense of accomplishment and pride.
It's already incredibly easy to get diamond for diamond tools. We've already nixxed the accomplished pride one feels in owning diamond tools, we now want to nix the pride we have in having great enchantments?
If anything I'd say just make it so you get better chances for enchantments that you want so all the time put into getting levels isn't a waste.
Like I said. Good mob grinder can take perhaps at least 4 hours of dedication to get to level 50. It's something to work for. And even those with a life can do it, as I have a life myself yet I manage to get the time together to have gotten to level 50 twice.
Twice only because I haven't really put my time towards it that much, I was content with the pick enchantment I got.

I call lie on that about it taking several days.
I have easily managed to get to level 50 in just a few hours using a mob grinder that I have in our town. And that was while killing mobs there with TidalMewMew so I was only getting at least half the experience over the maybe just 4 hours.

1. Would you like to keep your inventory on death, just the hot bar or keep the survival aspect and lose it all? I say let us lose it. It's supposed to be survival after all, so losing it makes full sense to me. It adds a sense of danger to the game and makes up work harder to stay alive and gives a challenge. If you know you're going to not lose anything you don't feel any reason to avoid creepers, or gather food to eat. 2. If you could add anything to the server what would you add and why? -Like some people have said, the ability to move spawners around. Even if a mod has to do it themselves, it's still better than permanently losing it just because you decided it would be better in another place. After all, people had to pay their own money for these, not noobz. It's important not to let these contributions go to waste. -Personal warps would be nice. I tend to spend a ton of time running around my town and the area near it. Lots of time wasted walking would be erased so that I could quickly move to different areas. At the very least up to three warps I'd like. My home, my shop, and where I've been mining or something would be fine with me. -Town plot PVP. DragonFire's working on making a PVP arena, so we'd like this to be turned on. ;3 -Yes, moderators from all time zones. We get spammed a lot (Now that that kid from yesterday came on and warned us we'd be getting even more we NEED this.) so we have to be prepared for it. Plus reporting just isn't good enough if someone is spamming up the chat with crude remarks and cusses. Banning hours later doesn't remove the irritation/damage it caused while they did it. -I don't really think we need a "favorite nation". As it is we only have three nations. And it might go down to 2 soon. So having a "favorite nation" would be tedious and useless as there would be so few options to choose from that it's not even doing anything. 3. Whats your favourite activity to do on the server and why? (Skills, Towns, PVP etc.) -I love the skills! They're amazing, I have to say I love almost all of them. Besides fishing. Fishing bores me because it takes too much time and I hate waiting around for it when I could be doing something else. -Towns. Most of my time is invested in working on the town and the people in the town. I also put most of my money towards the town as well. I'd definitely say it's my favorite part of the server. -The people. The people on the server are just the best I've seen my whole time on Minecraft. I haven't' been on that many servers but by far this is the best one.

I like the idea. Even if it's just a simple recognition-thing it's still nice, especially considering all the mods do a ton of work daily for all of the different users on here.
I know personally that even if it's just a simple "thank you", it makes me feel happy about the work that I've done. So it would probably be for our wonderful mod group.

But as I've said. We don't take them down unless you've been gone two weeks, and only if you don't give notice that you're going to be gone.
We've only done this once or twice, and only to two people we knew were pretty much not coming back to the server. They'd found other servers and weren't going to bother with this one.
Tidal and I are pretty understanding. If we know the person and they've been somewhat active in the town we give them time. And even if we don't know them, we prefer to give the benefit of the doubt and wait to see if they'll come back. I intend on doing monthly checks on plots and players to see when a person was last active, so the two-week rule for me is really just a formality.

Well I personally would find some way to get on another computer (What are friends for if not for allowing you to use their computers? Or libraries? I know the libraries near me allow you to use computers for searching things. And using MC in the browser/getting on Noobscraft quickly to send a PM isn't that hard to do.) to inform people.
However if a person isn't able to tell us, like I said. We'll give them a plot as well as items to replace what was taken on their plot. Their items will also be in a locked chest that I personally locked so no random members will be able to get at them. I intend on creating a locked-chest room for different members below spawn for storage of such things.
I also intend on taking down plots myself if I can (If the plot is not intensely huge. One member created a huge hotel-tree that went up to the clouds it seemed like. However they were banned, so it was not much of a problem.) to further store all the building material I can in their locked chest.
I will not allow anyone to touch these chests until the person comes back on, if they ever do.
Edit- After careful consideration Tidal and I have decided to do away with the 10-block limit. Dark78660 was the one to implement this rule, and we believe that it is far too restricting. Therefore all residents can build as high or as low as they want.

There are of course exceptions.
We're not cruel people, if we're notified that you're going to be busy we of course understand and would not let a plot be taken. I myself get busy quite a lot (Not so much that I'd be gone for two weeks without notice, though) and I understand how others who are busy with jobs, school, etc can get distracted and stay off Minecraft so they can get work done.
However I don't believe that's an excuse to not even send a single PM on the forum to notify Tidal or I that they'll be busy.
Either way, if a person comes back on after two weeks and finds that their plots have been taken we will give them another plot. A mod will have their chest broken open, and all items in the chest are stored in locked chests at spawn for when the person returns, so that none of their stuff is taken or sold off. Any important things that I find on the property I will personally take down and place in the chests as well so that no one else takes them and resells them.

I will also mention that I myself keep the town running a lot of the time by donating at least 20k every few days into the town bank, as every plot the town claims costs 1k. And we are expanding quite a lot. Therefore I make sure that the town itself is maintained by keeping the bank going, so there's hardly any chance of the town suddenly going under. Also because I myself deposit into the town so frequently the residents of the town can freely enjoy themselves without having to worry about depositing their own money to keep the town afloat. The small $10 per plot tax is hardly damaging to anyone considering all the advantages the town has.
And yes, Alba is correct. I even give 1k to each new members so that if they wanted to they can take four plots. Currently I'm having to go dig out new plots because this has enabled the newer members to each take up as many plots as they wanted up to four. And a lot of them do.
As Alba said again, I did not want to come across as though some kind of leech trying to take away those that were displaced during Oakhaven's tragic fall. (Of which I am highly disgusted to have happened and am immensely proud that those who were in it have risen despite the challenge and are thriving again.)
All I care to do on the server is take care of my town, and more importantly the residents in it. This of course involves getting new members and making sure they're all set up, which I do as soon as they enter town. I enjoy the fact that there are "better and bigger" towns out there, as it gives the server a huge diversity and gives me a goal to drive to. I'd love to one day make DragonFire as good as some of the other towns, and I'm striving towards that.
The regulations are in a way common sense type of things, as it's only proper manners to not dig 1 hole down to bedrock, or leave floating trees, or strip-mine near a town. They're only actual rules so that no one resident can claim that it wasn't a rule and thereby slip out of reprisal. That is all they're there for, and we've to date never had a complaint or anyone going against these rules. Everyone so far has been kind and enjoyed all the town has to offer, and the people in it.

« on: 10 Apr 2012, 20:15:35 »
It's not even a large tax. Personally I think that if you can't get $10 per day for just one plot you have a problem. Considering I give new residents $1000 when they join, that should certainly last them several days. There's also the farms in town, residents can easily get money via using these.
The restrictions also aren't that hard to follow, the most restricting thing I believe is the 10-block height limit. And as I've said, we have town farms. Can easily get at least 2k from the wheat we have there in just one gathering.
Nothing wrong with no 1x1 towers or 1x1 holes. No one likes falling into a hole that's only one block, and 1-block towers are also annoying.
Mining around town? Makes it incredibly hard to expand the town, plus it destroys the landscape and makes it hard for residents to do things in the nearby wilderness if they fall into holes/etc. This IS what we have the mining world for, and I frequently set home in the mining world and will TPA someone there to get them to a safe place to mine if they ask.
Floating trees? Also annoying. Take up space and makes it annoying, especially if you're going around trying to get wood and someone's left a floating tree when they could have gotten the wood and replaced it for an entire new tree. We also, of course, have a tree farm in town. Therefore there's really no need to go out and tear down trees in the surrounding areas. We have every type of tree, including an open chest for residents containing saplings.
