Bugs and lag issues. It's been posted before, I'm just too lazy to search for it.

Am i correct that only the Mayor or TAs can withdraw from the town bank?

Noobstown General / Re: Max land raise
« on: 17 Aug 2012, 19:08:42 »
Nah, Magic's just worried the other towns are going to start claiming even more land and Kingdom will hardly have any space to grow.

One fix for this is you could make an outpost somewhere else in the world, and then start building a new "section" of town there, this gets rid of the problem where other towns are crowding in on you.

And this is exactly what Oakvale is doing rather than trying to grow toward our neighbor towns (Kingdom being one of them incidentally :) ).

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Additional Chat Channels
« on: 17 Aug 2012, 19:07:00 »
I believe there is already a reply to a very similar idea, and that reply amounted to "The chat system is already highly complicated, adding more complexity to it would just lag the server more than the gains".

My personal view and suggestion, most of the issues you are giving about the content of general chat would be alleviated by more patience. Patience that something doesn't NEED to be bought/sold RIGHT NOW, patience that answers to questions can wait is they aren't breaking your game (being inconvenienced is not breaking your game), patience that posts on the forums are just as useful if not more so than using the in game chat because it doesn't flood the channel with things that can indeed wait.

I know that's a hard thing to do, especially considering how young many players are, but it's the best solution to work with the limitations available for solutions.

Not sure if anyone recalls his work other than me (being a greybeard), but he passed away today. "The Stainless Steel Rat", "Bill The Galactic Hero", and the inspiration for "Soylent Green", "Make Room! Make Room!" were all all his work. He shall be missed.

Noobstown General / Re: Rules
« on: 14 Aug 2012, 05:39:57 »
Frequently with such rules, it's the spirit and intent of the rule that must be followed rather than trying to skirt it by sticking to what one believes to be the letter of the rule. The spirit of the rule, no matter how it is worded, is fairly clear: do not give out addresses to other servers.

Your argument is based entirely on the wording, the letter of the rule. That's essentially taking the position that you are right, the server and it's policies are wrong, and everyone else needs to change to suit you. I don't know of very many situations where that ever actually works. If the wording made you misunderstand, that's one thing. You apologize, point out why you misunderstood politely, and move on regardless of the decision. That isn't what I've personally see you doing however. Sometimes you get the same attitude directed back at you you exhibit ourwardly. And that might be what you are seeing in this case.

I'm going to point out, that kind of question typically leads to "how can I skirt the rules and get away with it" discussions. Not something I'd personally recommend. :)

Noobstown General / Re: Rules
« on: 12 Aug 2012, 05:07:55 »
I actually don't agree with you. I'm personally of the opinion that since this server is owned and operated by private individuals, it is entirely their call on what the rules are and how they are enforced. I also have found the rules to be easily accessible, understandable, and simple to follow.

Now, do I agree with all the rules as they are defined and/or enforced? That's a totally different question. And it's fairly easy to respond to: if I (or anyone else) don't agree with enough of the rules, how they are enforced, how they are worded, or how accessible they are, then I am free to leave and find another server more suited to my tastes. That's the nature of privately run game servers.

I'm sure there are many people who agree with me that it's eminently fair, but I will not speak for them or use them to try and give my argument further weight. I will let them speak for themselves. :)

[addendum] For the record, I am not leaving. I like it here, rules and all. :)

Noobstown General / Re: Communication issues
« on: 10 Aug 2012, 07:27:56 »
I think we've been pretty clear that no, no one is on the server right now. The admins need to fix it. They will fix it as soon as they can. It won't be fast enough for you. Perhaps now would be a good time for single player Minecraft. Or to check out one of the mods out there for single player. Plenty of those out there to tinker with. :)

« on: 10 Aug 2012, 07:08:15 »
Lets try it this way. As the moderator TwistedLover said on that first thread I linked, the server has crashed. As in it's not working. There's nothing there to connect with, and until they fix it, there's nothing you can do to log in. The forum does list people as "online", but it's going by the last information it has, which isn't being updated by the server because the server isn't working to update it.

You can either go by what an automated script says that's dependent on a working server to be correct, or you can go by what living human beings with the title of moderator are saying. Personally, I trust the human answer more than the automated one.

There's threads already open, one says what happened and that it's being worked on, the other is simple speculation and spending of time until things are working again. Why start another thread with the same question that's already been answered? And how is linking to the others not a help?

Support / Re: OMG ACCOUNT SHARING WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???
« on: 10 Aug 2012, 04:52:55 »
Account sharing is anyone using an account other than the account creator.

For some reason, a lot of people consider this to be "no big deal". However, your account is your online identity. Letting someone else use it makes you responsible for anything they do as if you did it yourself. You deal with whatever consequences result from it.

It's much like lending your car AND your drivers license to a friend. If they crash your car, you are the one with a broken car. And you are also likely to be in trouble for false identity for lending your license and allowing your friend to claim to be you.

Support / Town Assistant question
« on: 9 Aug 2012, 23:13:31 »
As a town assistant, one of the things I've had to help with is perform plot evictions for people who haven't been on in a while. The process we've hoped to do is set up a chest (or chests) in our town hall, move their stuff to those chests for storage purposes, then demolish the plot.

However, we've had difficulty getting access to chests, furnaces, doors, and anything else the plot resident may have protected. Supposedly a "/plot clear" by the mayor is supposed to correct this, but it hasn't always, and that assumes the mayor has had the time to do so beyond just asking a TA to take care of it. I've personally been making do by asking for mod assistance, but my question is is there a simpler or easier way or process for a TA to help take care of this? Obviously, I understand that this is potentially a power abuse area, so I suspect it isn't easy intentionally. But I figured I'd ask to be sure. :)

That's pretty much how I do it as well. If I can't use what I'm mining, then I sell it to someone who can. Although redstone and gravel are becoming more and more difficult to get rid of... :)

It would appear the Minecraft log in server is offline. I'm getting "unable to check service status" from the Mojang support page for everything. Just an FYI if anyone else is having connection issues right now.

Towns & Nations / Re: How do i join a Town or Nation
« on: 7 Aug 2012, 03:28:51 »
You join a town by being invited by a mayor or town assistant of the town you are interested in. Feel free to check us out at Oakvale! Just do "/town Oakvale" and you can see who to contact if we're online. :)

Certainly, just contact one of our TAs when you and they are both in game at the same time. :)

Should it matter if it's active? No one should be messing with anything someone else built, official or unofficial.
