If you visit http://help.mojang.com/ then you can get information about the Mojang servers and their status. As can be seen:

Minecraft multiplayer sessions
This service is down! We are doing our very best to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

We have a log of you receiving 1 chicken egg that you purchased. We don't have any logs for the purchase of two and so you shouldn't have been charged for two.

If you don't mind me discussing your Points publicly then I can post our full log here, if you don't want it public please feel free to PM me and we can talk about this further.

I've used that feature lots of times, it's just lately I've been re-reading posts..
There are a few explanations for why this is happening:

  • If players edit the content of the latest post in a topic then on certain occasions the post may be re-added to your unread list.
  • If you ever view a topic and are not logged in, and then login; those posts you viewed when not logged in will not be marked as read on your logged in account.
  • If you don't view the most recent post in a topic then the whole topic won't appear to be read. For example if you only read the first page of a two page topic then it won't mark you as viewing the most recent post.
  • There are a bug.

If you visit http://www.noobscraft.com/unread/ (Under the "Forum" tab: "All Unread New Posts") it lists all of the posts which have updated since you last viewed them.

Even taking out our custom spawning/despawning mechanisms naturally in Vanilla Minecraft zombie villagers despawn when you move away from them anyway.

« on: 3 Nov 2012, 17:14:37 »
If by op you are referring to being an in-game moderator then you need to apply using our application topic (http://www.noobscraft.com/noobstown-general/moderator-applications/msg44779/#msg44779) and show yourself off in-game as being someone we believe could be useful as a moderator and part of the team.

As for the actual Minecraft "op" rank you cannot really get it on Noobstown, we use don't use the default Minecraft ranking system for players and so officially no one can become an "op".

« on: 2 Nov 2012, 18:50:02 »
Hello~

Can anyone change my username for me as I entered it wrong (it's Lunacaster, not lunacaster :L)
I guess that's why my skin doesn't show up on my profile.

Laters~
Periodically our system automatically scans the list of those online and adjusts the cases of usernames by itself. It may take a few days but your name will automatically receive the capitalised L eventually and so your skin should update.

We haven't taken any specific steps to block the spawning of Wither Skeletons.

Please read information on the spawning of them. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Wither_Skeleton#Spawning. They only spawn in newly generated Nether Fortresses, where the area is actually detected as being a fortress.

Server Announcements / We're running 1.4!
« on: 28 Oct 2012, 18:23:54 »

We've updated the server to 1.4.2 now! You can update your clients to the latest Minecraft version for now.

Just to let you know we have disabled several features for security, these should be re-enabled once we have complete control over their functions!

Sorry about any downtime we had.

1038
The server is now running 1.4 you should be able to come online and play now. Sorry for the downtime.

1.4 is now live on the server! Come online and join us! Yes; you can update your clients if you haven't already!

1040
When we originally released the schedule we had planned to take into account the 1.4 update, however due to the large numbers of people who did update and so are currently unable to visit the server and attend events; we have decided to change certain events.

We have re-arranged a number of the events to be early next week because of this. As always it could end up changing again though if we don't have a stable version of 1.4 or if not enough people show up to it if we are still in 1.3 at that time.

Mollstam who works for Mojang explained this via Twitter:

I have no idea when services will be restored. Even if it goes up know it most likely will be aftershocks for up to 24 hours. It’s life. : )

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Website Chat/Shoutbox
« on: 18 Oct 2012, 18:57:04 »
...
But..

  • You need to download teamspeak and if you haven't used it before, it isn't very noob friendly.
  • If the server was down this wouldn't really apply..
  • Posting on the forums also takes up time, people don't always look at the forum to see new posts, it would be a long, long process.
...
To address your points: Most players download Minecraft anyway, or at least Java to play on our server, thus downloading TeamSpeak shouldn't really be an issue, installation is just like any other piece of software you would normally use too. As for players who may be confused by TeamSpeak; it is a very simple program to use with extensive in-software and online help topics on how to do everything ranging from just the basics to very complex processes.

When the game server is down the TeamSpeak is normally still online so there shouldn't be an issue with a lack of communication, and the site is there again for any issues too.

Finally in regard to "posting takes time", it takes just as much time as posting something in a shoutbox/chat would? Plus saying that people don't use the site correctly is not something we can fix, if the users aren't going to do simple things such as view the latest unread posts (http://www.noobscraft.com/unread/) (thus allowing them to keep on top of the latest news/information) we can't force them to.

We are always welcome to suggestions and ideas on how to improve the navigation and workings of the site however a Shoutbox/Chat is just going to mimic (repeat) other features we already offer.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Website Chat/Shoutbox
« on: 18 Oct 2012, 14:15:59 »
I have thought about this many times however I feel it is pointless for the follow reasons:
  • We have a TeamSpeak for chatting; both voice and text can be used, this includes when the game server is down.
  • We have a server for chatting on.
  • We have a forum, if you want to post things you can do so in the different boards (as long as it follows the rules).

Adding more areas for users to interact with each other just means we have more locations to moderate. If you want to chat you can do so on our TeamSpeak. Therefore a site chat isn't likely to be added to the site any-time soon.

Site Announcements / Re: Noobscraft.com Scheduled Downtime
« on: 16 Oct 2012, 19:21:44 »
One thing i'm still not sure about is that if if did buy vip on the 18th and if the new commands are out on the 19th for example would the following 60 days if i bought it twice have the new commands or would they only be for the free month and then reset back to the old vip commands? Sorry if this has caused any confusion. Thanks.
The downtime has nothing to do with any announced site/server updates, it is purely an update on behalf of our webhost who is moving data-centres. There will be no visible changes to the site after we come back online from going down.

Any questions regarding the changes to VIP should be made in the topic relevant to that update.

So it's best to buy more vip on the 18th?
I would advise that if you are going to buy it that you do so well before the downtime or afterwards; however it is up to you :).

As for the "cartographer" I believe that to map out our world like that you require the world files, and is intended for single player worlds, thus I'm not sure how you plan to use it on Noobstown?

I think the staff should write a list of all allowed mods. ...
Our general rule regarding this is that providing that the mod doesn't give you any advantage over any other players who don't have that mod installed and as long as it breaks no other rules then generally it is okay. I would suggest though that if you are planning to add a certain mod which hasn't already explicitly noted down as allowed; that you ask a member of the staff team.

not all but some basic helpful ones would be great.
Our server works perfectly fine without the need for any client-side modding; we aren't going to recommend adding things which you don't need.
