Site Announcements / Re: Noobscraft.com Scheduled Downtime
« on: 11 Oct 2012, 23:51:06 »
Lawrence, I have 10 days left on VIP. Should I get more before the VIP Update? I have 5000 points left.
Sorry about the delayed response. It is always up to you if you want to continue with your VIP after your days run out, I would suggest that you don't leave it to update on the morning of the 19th itself though; but again it is always up to you.

So if I read this correctly as I am still tired after just waking up, the main server will stay online and are playable while the site/forum wont? I can survive that.
Correct, the server should stay online. It is only the site which is supposed to be going down for a few hours.

Site Announcements / Noobscraft.com Scheduled Downtime
« on: 5 Oct 2012, 01:38:41 »
On the 19th of October 2012 from 1am until around 5am BST (Check your timezone), noobscraft.com will be brought down completely for major web-host updates. All features which use the noobscraft.com site will be completely unavailable during this downtime.

Features which will be unavailable during this downtime include:
  • Access to the site itself
  • Site registration/Account activation
(This includes new members attempting to register)
  • Use of Points
  • Donation options
(Do not attempt to make a purchase around this downtime as payments may be taken but goods may not be correctly delivered; do it early or wait until we are completely back online)
  • Any contact with us via any @noobscraft.com email
  • Updates to VIP
(I recommend if your VIP is going to run out during this downtime that you renew it before then)
I would like to make this clear though: Just because the site is down doesn't mean our server will be; this should stay online completely through the site downtime.

This downtime is important as part of a major change which our web-host is making with their data-centres. During the downtime their teams will be moving our site servers from their old data-centre to a brand new state-of-the-art one; this should improve site loading times and improve reliability.

If you have any queries about this downtime please feel free to post them below.

Server Announcements / Server Rules
« on: 19 Sep 2012, 12:33:58 »
CLOUDSQUID NETWORK
SERVER RULES

The rules apply per account, not per person (on said account). When accessing the server (and site) you are committing yourself to following these rules and if you fail to follow these rules you risk your account being suspended or banned.

We will inform players when major changes are made to the rules.

i. Advertising
You may not discuss, mention by name, or send IP addresses to other servers in any chat channel.  You are not permitted to make money from Cloudsquid services nor use them for your own personal gain, in doing so, you will be permanently banned from our services.

ii. Cheating
You are not allowed to use any sort of cheat or exploit to gain an advantage over other players. Auto-fishing mods are not allowed. AFK or duplication machines are not allowed. Knowing & using but not reporting exploits to staff members can lead to your account being sanctioned.

iii. Griefing (and Stealing)
Destroying other players blocks without their permission is against the rules. Giving a player permissions to your plot or town is indirectly giving that player permission to break your plots (this includes setting towns and plots to public). You should not destroy or remove a player’s blocks or items if they are in a chest, unless you have permission to do so. However, any items that are dropped by a player are no longer their own and are free for anyone to take.

iv.  Hacking
Modifications to your client that give you a substantial advantage over players are not allowed, for example X-Ray modifications. The only modifications that are allowed are Optifine and those that are similar, in that, it does not give you a distinct advantage over other players. Minimap mods are permissible if and only if they have no other features, for example mob trackers and cave finders.

v. Swearing
You may not swear in any channel including private messaging channels such as /tell. We have language filters to block any words that are profane; bypassing or attempting to bypass this filter will lead to sanctions against your account. Any chat should be appropriate for people of all ages and in the global channel all chat should be in English only.

vi. Trolling
Trolling and annoying players is not allowed. Deliberately provoking players to break the rules by, for example arguing or name-calling will lead to your account being sanctioned. Ruining gameplay can be classed as trolling, and similarly, flaming (on the forum or otherwise) is included in this definition.

vii. Spamming
Unnecessary messages that have no other purpose than to annoy players are classed as Spam. Spam can include song lyrics, random formations of letters, repetition of letters or words and so forth. If you are to send pictures or video (that are within the boundaries of the rules) you should do so in a private chat channel.

viii. Respect
You should be respectful to all players and staff members. If players are disrespectful towards yourself or others, you should report this to a staff member and avoid being disrespectful back. Any hate speech, harassment, bullying or incitements to violence will be dealt with very harshly and you can expect your server access to be revoked permanently if you engage in this behaviour.

For your own safety you should be very careful when you release personal information about yourself; we ask you not to exchange Skype usernames or emails with eachother on the server.

If you do "Shift+F5" (at the same time) does it fix the issue?

I always have it on, I don't like the floaty-ghost feeling/look of not having it on, it's just weird.

Once we can be sure that all bugs from pistons are completely fixed they will be reactivated. Until then we have to keep them disabled to ensure the safety of the server and its economy.

Not having access to your Minecraft account is an issue between you and Mojang, not us. Your avatar is the Minecraft skin associated with your Minecraft account, if you feel your skin is "girly" then you need to change it, that is your choice, the system on the site will simply display the face section of your current Minecraft account skin.

Site Announcements / Re: Avatar Announcement

I saw what you wrote but it lacks logic in many ways. So by the new system it will be easier to identify who says it, as if the name of the person wasn't enough, because their skin is their avatar. I'm lucky if I know what my friends skins are let a lone all the other people. And frankly I don't care what they are and don't see the need to identify them by it.
The new system will therefore allow you to learn people's skins according to who they are? You will be able to identify that image with their Minecraft user; thus giving more of a connection between the site and the server. You will see once the change has occurred that you begin to associate that image of their Minecraft face with that user; rather than having to read the user's name.

I was planning on putting up a new pic as well, a pic of all my guitars :(. It was going to say at the bottom, "my babies" lol. Oh well :(
You can still put any pictures/messages you may want users to see in a topic or in your signature.

after you have your face avatar can you change your skin to change the avater? or just the avatar? also will helmets show?
It will automatically update (on a once daily basis) once you edit your actual Minecraft skin (on minecraft.net). Helmets/hats won't be shown; faces only.

What benefit does this bring to the server or forum? Im wondering because I would much rather keep my current avatar, which practically is my skin but was made by a friend of mine from V3.
I did explain this in the original post:

This change should be a good improvement for the site, it should make reading posts and seeing who has made a certain post much clearer for everyone.

Site Announcements / Avatar Announcement
« on: 29 Aug 2012, 01:32:06 »

We're changing how site avatars will work!

As part of a progression with the site that you are likely to see later this year, we have decided that it is a good time to initiate a change to your site avatars. The changeover will progress as follows (providing we experience no issues):

  • 30th Aug - All current avatars will be locked and no new ones will be able to be added.
  • 1st Sept - All current avatars will be deleted.
  • 2nd Sept - All users will receive their user (skin) avatar.

This timetable of transition will allow anyone who needs to, to get their avatar from our server before it is deleted. If you are wondering what we are replacing avatars with; look at what has been my avatar for a few weeks now, every user will receive their own Minecraft skin face as their site avatar automatically; you won't have to do anything (providing we have a suitable skin on our records).

This change should be a good improvement for the site, it should make reading posts and seeing who has made a certain post much clearer for everyone. As normal if you have any questions please reply to this topic.

During the transition period you may experience some momentary changes to the site, these should be fixed soon after they occur. If you notice any serious issues please contact me.

The fact that the case in your name is not exactly matching your in-game Minecraft name doesn't effect membership.

Our system periodically checks all site names against the cases of their actual in-game names, and adjusts the cases as needed. Thus your issue if you aren't already a member in-game is unlikely to be to do with that.

Are you still experiencing an issue with in-game membership or has it fixed itself?

Whilst I don't want to speculate about your online activity, but Google (our ad provider) often displays ads which are targeted to users, so that they will show content which is similar/relevant to what you have been doing online on other sites.

If you visit: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb/ you can edit your advertising settings to opt out of their interest based ads being shown to you. We will also look into our advertising settings to try and ensure that adverts which are not suitable for our site aren't displayed, sorry about this.

It is a bug with our online user list that the server shows people being online from when the server itself was last online. I will work on a fix for it today. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.

Support / Re: The Staff rank
« on: 10 Aug 2012, 10:47:40 »
The rank is used for when people need to have staff privileges but don't need the moderation options. There are currently no users in the rank, it was originally added for when I was staff on the site (needed to edit stuff) but wasn't a moderator or admin; it was an extra rank.

We have already planned to do this. In a version of the site which you cannot see yet, we have already began to do this.

The game statistics are the first thing we have added as part of this transition to try and connect the site to the server even more than it already is. These can be viewed under the "Community" tab.
