Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Noobstown archeology
« on: 17 Nov 2016, 18:30:16 »
What would motivate many that love mining, collecting, and combat. Is unique items. I would love to spend mining in the mining world knowing that very rarely I could find an enchanted drop that I can trade with a villager at the spawn marketplace, or perhaps use to enchant one of my favorite items with.

Having an unbreaking v pick axes, or unbreaking x gold helmet for example (keeping it simple here). Would be pretty cool.

Collecting these artifacts that are quite rare, could mean I would spend more time online mining and trying out my luck in the new mining world with my friends.

And what is that? There's a rumor once a year a villager in a boat arrives with a fortune v pickaxe for x of these rare artifacts?

But yeah, I think it would be cool to hear a bang during mining and find a super rare fossil, some ancient scroll or unique artifact we can then use to spiffy up a buff on armour, or enchantment on a tool beyond what we can normally do.
...
I don't see why something like this couldn't be introduced as a permanent feature. We've already done this sort of thing for some of the themed months (for example this just gone Noobween), but if it were permanent it would obviously have to be on a much much rarer scale, but still to the point where it was actually possible.

I've created a work item to work on this which you can view at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/random-skill-drop-trades/.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Simple races
« on: 17 Nov 2016, 18:24:47 »
Just trying to understand your idea; what exactly would the point of the races be? In MineApoc (which has now closed) picking a different race gave you access to a few different things including picking from a limited set of the mcMMO perks dependent on your race, but since we already give everyone access to all mcMMO skills this seems like it might not fit?

Not really a suggestion, but I noticed in my quest to find out how to see the amount of free chunks I have, that
a- https://www.noobscraft.com/free/ doesn't list how many I can still buy for 0
b- https://www.noobscraft.com/free/ could use the text: Check in-game with : /wild free
...
At the current time this is the case because of how it was initially set up in a technical sense; the free chunk site based features are stored locally on the site and then sent to the server when you earn a free chunk, whereas how many free chunks you can actually claim are stored server side. It is a longer term plan to move these features both over to the server and then simply pull them as needed on the site, it just wasn't implemented like that originally. I've created a work item to do this which you can view at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/free-wilderness-chunks-merge/.

...could we get a bit more than 6 friends? .. I am not really sure why it could be a limit of sorts, why not 8 or 10 or 12?...
This is planned; I'm going to be increasing both the Wilderness Builders and Wilderness Friends limits, that will come out with the update to the Wilderness system hopefully coming by the end of this month.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Armour Stands plugin for Posing
« on: 17 Nov 2016, 18:08:06 »
Would be awesome to have something like /wild unit, but for /stand pose
So we could have an armour stand using pre-set of a few poses.
Maybe a plugin could assist in this.

Looking at the unit, then type: /stand pose [1,2,3,4]
1- default
2- small
3- arms/noarms toggler
4- fight
5- ...

If an option to hold a sword, shield, etc is possible, perhaps it could use what you're holding in your hand, or have available in your inventory to populate it.

Breaking the armour stand should just drop the items and forget that unit.
Thanks for the idea, I don't see why something like this couldn't be added down the line. I will look into the feasibility of something like this, and if it turns out to be something simple enough to implement then I'll definitely do it.

In terms of armour stands though; I understand what you mean about a similar use of the pointing at commands, but to be clear they're not considered units at this time.

Competitions & Events / Fall Quest 2016
« on: 13 Nov 2016, 18:42:38 »

Just a quick post to let you know that thanks to WarriorBen the first part of November's "Fall Quest" is available at /warp theme! As normal you can get the token to begin it using /kit theme.

Also the trades for Noobween will be up for just a few more days so if you've got any Noobween Candy left over it is probably best to trade it in now.

Server Announcements / Recap of October 2016
« on: 13 Nov 2016, 16:59:06 »

Just a quick recap of some of the things done in October 2016. This post is later than planned, sorry about that.

General

Server Changes
Not many larger features were introduced to the server itself with all of the event planning which was taking place, but there was a lot of behind-the-scenes work for some big changes to commands coming hopefully in November, and also a few smaller changes. You can try using just '/tpa' for an example of one of the features I've been working on, using simple menus like that means you won't need to remember all of the different commands for lots of the tiny settings etc. These features will be spread to other plugins over time.

Competitions & Events

Coming in November
I realise that not everything from the planned updates for October were completed so those which weren't completed will be coming hopefully soon now.
Other things coming hopefully by the end of November:
  • A simplification of the Wilderness commands to make it easier to get going as a new player. Using a system similar to the /tpa one described above. Here's a short clip of an example below:

If you've got any feedback after seeing that please let me know :).

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Starting Up
« on: 10 Nov 2016, 20:08:48 »
I feel like it takes to long to first start on the server with all the info stuff and the sign up on the website. I feel like most new players leave before they even start playing because of this issue. I would like to make an idea to stop the length of start up and maybe just make them do /rules and they can start. If they want to read (Most of them don't) about the info of the server and that you could make a warp like /warp help and it goes to that info place when you first join the server. Also make it a bit more simple to first start on the server so more players will be lured to keep playing.
...
...then throwing people into the server without forcing them a 15 minute tutorial and rules poll, might keep them around a bit...
Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure if you've actually experienced or seen the newest area for new players on the server? You can get to it at /warp tutorial. If you do mean a change to the new spawn for new players or you still think this or have any ideas after seeing it do let me know though.

It's really quite short; you don't even have to do any of it if you don't want, it's even ordered in a way that if you get bored as you go around the more important information is first. There is nothing stopping you getting going immediately as soon as you connect if you want. None of the old routes for rule questions and millions of signs spread out exist anymore, it's now very simplified. In terms of just dropping people right into the deep end I can sort of understand since this is a common practice, but we use many completely custom features that aren't used elsewhere and I'd imagine those who aren't willing to walk a few blocks around a few signs are the same people who won't be willing to figure out the commands themselves.

Similarly there is nothing requiring people to register now, people can connect and get going immediately if they want to and know what they're doing. New players have all of the same options as a normal member in terms of gameplay itself.

I can understand the issue you're probably trying to address, but we have tried to make things super easy for new players. If I'm being honest I really am not sure what is putting new people off after they've connected, and I'm welcome to trying new things to get people to at least try what we have to offer. I have witnessed many people connect and almost immediately disconnect without even giving anything a go, not even getting into the few signs at the new player spawn. In the works is a complete simplification of many of the commands, so you don't need to remember the potentially long and complicated wilderness options to get going. Once this is done then a number of the signs at the new "tutorial" can be removed or adjusted to make it even easier.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: 1.10.x upgrade?
« on: 9 Nov 2016, 20:03:30 »
It's a new season, and 1.11 might be around the corner at some point, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to get 1.10 support if possible.

I wouldn't mind having polar bear spawner? is that a thing? Or one as a pet.

There are a few new blocks (void, bone, nether, etc), would be fun to try building with those.

Will we see NT on 1.10, (it's been a while, it's fair to ask), or are skipping to 1.11 perhaps?
As you might have noticed 1.11 is planned for release on the 14th of November (http://mojang.com/2016/11/minecraft-111-pre-release-1/), so it's almost impossible that we'll be updating to 1.10 before then. When we do get round to updating it's likely we'll just move on to 1.11 though yeah. Going on what Mojang have said about the frequency of updates though we might have to delay it further as apparently all updates until 1.14 are going to be smaller and more frequent (https://twitter.com/seargedp/status/738398048062218244).

As for why we haven't managed to get onto 1.9/1.10 already; we're currently waiting on a specific piece of third-party software to upgrade to a stable version before I can update all of the custom plugins we use. I can't really give an estimate of when that might be done, but once it is then one of the primary focuses we'll have is to upgrade. The changeover from 1.8 to 1.9 is a massive change for Noobstown because of the addition of the second hand in Minecraft which alters the way we deal with pretty much all interactions on the server; most stuff will need adjusting in some way.

You need to be aware though that from the time of the first upgrade of a certain plugin then no further changes can be made to that system without me going back and merging the changes; it's likely all other changes will have to be put on hold once I begin to update the plugins because it makes little sense to maintain copies specific to each version and to produce features for 1.8 which might need rewriting for the upgrade anyway.

Hopefully that goes someway to explaining the situation we're in; we'll be updating as soon as we can, and now yes it's looking very likely that we'll be going straight to 1.11 rather than 1.9 or 1.10.

Support / Re: The signs lag so much
« on: 7 Nov 2016, 20:39:01 »
...
Anything noobstown could perhaps do to replace or add another type of shop to the server that could be like ChestShop but without the signs?

Kinda wish we could use LWC and set the type of chest to ShopChest for example,
that way when anybody but the owner opens the chest (or anybody on the cmodify list) it would show a market value of that item, clicking it twice would buy that item(s).
..
I think I can understand what you mean, however if it's not possible to find out from just looking at the chests, how are people likely to know whether a chest is a "shop chest" or just a random storage chest? The current system makes it clear when you can buy from/sell to a chest, but with your idea it sounds like someone would have to go up and try to actually open each individual chest before they even know if it's a shop or not?

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: '/t outpost' alias suggestion
« on: 7 Nov 2016, 20:32:22 »
It would be cool to make an outpost called shop, and farm and grinder, etc.
And have /t shop work, rather than /t outpost shop
As we discussed in-game this isn't likely to be a change we'll implement because currently town names take the command /town [town], so allowing outposts to use the same command might get confusing and would limit possible town names. You can just use /t o [outpostName] as a shorter alias of the outpost command though.

The Mining World and Nether have been reset for November!

The End hasn't been reset this time because the quest area still exists at the spawn of it, but I have respawned the dragon, and there is still lots of end stone and obsidian available to collect.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: /shop --- snow
« on: 23 Oct 2016, 02:21:40 »
...add snow to the ./shop...
I've now added Snowballs to the /shop under Misc (page 2). I'll be monitoring sales over the next few days/weeks and might adjust the price if it's too low/high though :). I hope this is what you wanted though. :).

I don't see any reason why it can't be sold using /shop. Were you thinking snowballs, blocks or sheets?

I've created a work item to sort this out which you can find and vote for at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/sell-snow/.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: tp proof plots
« on: 14 Oct 2016, 18:29:23 »
Would it be possible to allow towns to set an option for plots like in dracomere's parkour plots where teleports are blocked?
I don't see why something similar to this couldn't be added in the future. We'd need to be careful to not completely block all commands or teleports because I don't want a way for you to be able to permanently trap people, but I don't see why we couldn't work something out to limit certain commands if wanted in towns. I've created the work item to work on this in the future, you can find and vote for it at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/limit-town-commands/.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Viewing AFK Players
« on: 11 Oct 2016, 23:32:02 »
I think we should have a way to view the AFK players, like in the tab menu it might say [AFK] next to a player name. This would be useful because even though it says in chat when a person is AFK the chat goes away and this way it will be easier too see.
...
Edit: SweetCrazyMom let me know that /online shows the AFK players.
We don't really want to encourage you to be on the server if you're AFK, if you know you're not going to be actively playing it would be best to just disconnect to avoid potentially annoying people who are trying to contact you and from abusing any automated things you may be stood around, etc. As a result of this it's not likely that this is going to be introduced on the server, you can feel free to do as SweetCrazyMom suggested though.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Site Forums Sorting by Date
« on: 11 Oct 2016, 23:29:17 »
The site forums seem to be appearing out of order by date i.e. topics from 2016 in the middle of the page and 2015 at the top and 2014-2011 below. I don't know if this is just my computer but it makes it difficult to see. I think we need an option to sort by date. Other then that, the forums are really easy to use and are very useful!
...
As ShadowWolf86 suggested, the posts are already sorted by the most recent replies to them:

There are a few topics at the top which are stickied so they remain at the top though, you'll be able to see these by a little pin icon to the left of them though (and they're a different background colour):

September's contest for a Tree House is now over, and I've been through the entries, lots of great entries. Because I didn't specify it explicitly in the rules section of the original post I included all entries using /cotm submit, even if they didn't reply to the topic (and if you don't reply in the future I'll do the same). The winner for September's contest is therefore: AJ_Andy. You see see his design at Noobscraft.com/cotm/ and it's in the screenshot below.

Thank-you to everyone who took part in last month's contest...participation awards and prizes for the month including those for taking part will be given out soon (potentially already depending on when you read this :P).

October's Contest

Each month you get the opportunity to submit a chunk you own to be reviewed in our contest, we're looking for creative, interesting and well-designed plots according to a monthly theme! You can find out about the previous winners at Noobs.town/cotm/.

How this works:
  • Each month we'll make a post like this on the site and give a theme for that month.
  • You then have the rest of the month to make design and build something in either the Wilderness OR the Town world according to the monthly theme, in a chunk you own.
  • You then submit your chunk using /cotm submit while stood in that chunk. Then make a reply to the monthly post outlining your design, explain it a bit if you want to.
  • At the end of the month I (and possibly other members of the staff team) will then go around all of the entries and judge which we deem to be the winner. Another post will then be made announcing the winner and all entries/prizes will be handed out.

It's very simple to take part, just use /cotm submit!

A few rules:
  • Your build must be within 1 single Minecraft chunk (16x16), but height doesn't matter. If you're using Minecraft 1.10+ you can use F3+G to view the boundaries in yellow :D!
  • You must own the land you're submitting your entry in, if it's in the Town world you must individually own the plot, and in the Wilderness you must own the land.
  • You need to follow the theme.
  • You need to actually build something, just submitting a simple few blocks to get the rewards won't count.
  • You need to submit your design using /cotm submit before midnight on the last day of the month (UK time)! This deadline is automated so don't miss it.
  • You need to leave your build up after the end of the month because we need chance to judge it!

The winner of each month will earn themselves:
  • A unique winner trophy for that month
  • 100,000Nbz
  • Your chunk showcased at Noobs.town/cotm/
  • Your name forever listed in-game when doing /cotm contests
  • 5 FREE Wilderness Chunks This is irrespective of if you built in the Town world!

Plus everyone who takes part will receive a participation prize and a free wilderness chunk (again irrespective of if you built in the Town world).

Got any questions? Just ask them below in a reply or in-game!

As for this month's theme (October) the theme is Halloween!

Competitions & Events / Noobween 2016 Begins!
« on: 8 Oct 2016, 22:02:39 »

Noobween 2016 is here on Noobstown.com. You might notice some spooky and odd things going on around the server 3:).

As normal we've got the different flavours of candy dropping for doing things around the server. Simply play as you normally would and keep an eye out for the random candy drops! The candy can then be collected and traded in for rewards (including rare heads, money and a range of other random items) at /warp noobween. The selection of rewards available might be adjusted as the month goes on so keep checking to see if anything there has changed.

There is also a brand new Quest for this month (being made by TidalDawn) which you can begin at /warp theme and use /kit theme as normal to get going! This is coming out in parts so keep an eye out for the updates over the coming weeks.

We will of course also be doing some proper events this month too so keep an eye out for a timetable of when things are going to be happening. For now you can enjoy double mcMMO XP for the rest of this weekend!

I know that a lot of you have enjoyed previous years where we've done Noobween and I hope this one can live up to that too! If you've got any questions or feedback just put it forward :).

On an unrelated note, the Top Voters for September and Chunk of the Month will be announced tomorrow; as well as the world resets!

Server Announcements / Recap of September 2016
« on: 3 Oct 2016, 20:13:14 »

I'm going to start doing a monthly recap of Noobstown's goings on to keep everyone up-to-date about what's happening in a summary at the end/start of each month. It will outline some of the important announcements, updates, events we've ran, changes planned, and other important announcements for the last or coming next month. This is the first one, looking back over September 2016. I've seen people saying not much happens; but we've changed loads in this last month, and coming in October we'll be getting back into events!

General

Server & Site Changes

Competitions & Events

Coming in October
Just a few already announced/known things coming this month, there will obviously be more than this so keep an eye out, but some of the known things:
  • A new themed month will begin later this week! Noobween
  • Temporary worlds will be reset this coming weekend.
  • September's Top Voters will be announced, as well as Chunk of the Month winners and the next contests for them
  • We'll be bringing back regular events, including a clear timetable of what's going on when.
  • We'll finally introducing a decorative head shop!
  • Plus more...!
