Great story line, But I do have some concerns.. the amount of stuff you have to get for them is waaay to much, the placement of the characters are just not done right, its hard to find who and where you're looking for them. I dont think you should make arrows pointing to them, but describing a place in a town that is not known to everyone, it gets to be a pain looking all over for them. And this is not just one person, but the stuff you need for the quests... There is no need to put them up on AH for a stupid amount of money. Sorry My review is sorta bad, just pointing out stuff other people have said too. But the quest are fun and a cool prize waits at the end.
I'm glad you're enjoying the story. :). I'm just going to go through some of the negative points you've mentioned and try to explain them a bit more, if I'm misunderstood you please say so.

The whole point of these quests is for them to be something for you to be able to actively do on the server, it's not meant to be a race to who can finish it first, if it takes you a week+ to collect all of the materials that's fine? Enjoy the time while you collecting them, if you don't want to collect them, try to buy them?

Regarding locations being hard to find, I'm not sure exactly which part of the quest you're talking about (and obviously don't want to post spoilers) but the instructions for what to do are clearly explained in the quest books? For example the "town hall" is almost obviously going to be a big building near the town spawn or even labelled from there (again part of the fun is trying to find them)? In this part of the quest the harder to find things even gave directions which if you had perfectly followed they should be in your path.

Regarding people selling things on the Auction for high prices, that's how supply and demand works, if people are willing to pay high prices then sellers might as well sell for high prices to those with the money? If you can't afford it, try to make more money, ask for a bargain or collect them yourself? Again this is meant to be part of the fun of it.

I do appreciate your feedback, but I'm wondering if maybe you're looking at the quests as simply a way to gain rare items rather than for the actual task of completing the quests to be a fun event by itself, if you have any feedback still though please do say. :)

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Mob Spawners
« on: 20 Feb 2016, 08:42:46 »
Make it possible to mine spawners with Silk Touch Picks or make it so you can buy hostile mob spawner.
As others have suggested it makes farming hostile mobs far too easy, especially since you could lay them out in the most efficient pattern. This isn't something we want when we're a survival server. If you find a wild mob spawner and use that, it's perfectly fine because that is a part of the game (and almost never are they all stacked next to each other perfectly :P), we don't want to introduce them so they could be everywhere.

Thanks for the suggestion though, if you have any others please feel free to make a new topic about them :).

Server Announcements / Re: Minecraft 1.9 on Noobstown
« on: 19 Feb 2016, 07:41:31 »
...
Your post maybe indirectly implies that we should not upgrade our client to 1.9.x but can't we just use multiple profiles?
...
It sort of feels like you're saying that upgrading to 1.9 will guarantee you can't connect to Noobstown, but, we can just create a profile for it, right?
You can of-course add/edit other profiles within the launcher, I worded it as such because there will likely be many players who are unaware how profiles work, and therefore to make it extra clear that the server will not work with a client running 1.9 to begin with.

If you have a 1.8 profile you will be able to continue using Noobstown (which will continue to use 1.8 for now) I'd rather everyone sorted out the profile they normally use so it's the default to connect via 1.8 since it means people can just click "Play" without any issues (some always end up asking despite warnings). An explanation of how to change your profile (and therefore which client launches is explained in my reply above (here). You can go backwards too if you accidentally end up updating, however again some users might not easily understand this, hence the warning not to upgrade in the first place.

The client you use must be 1.8.x is basically how it should have been worded. You can have newer versions sitting in your launcher but they won't work with Noobstown to start with; use 1.8!

« on: 17 Feb 2016, 21:23:32 »
Since it is possible some of you will not realise how to keep using 1.8 in Minecraft; use the below picture to help you as a guide. If you still don't understand please ask for help.

First click the "Edit Profile" button in the bottom left, then in the "Use Version" dropdown select "release 1.8.9". Then click the "Save Profile" button (which is behind the dropdown in my picture) and just click "Play" like you normally would! Very simple.

It might be best to do this now so you don't forget next week :).

Server Announcements / Minecraft 1.9 on Noobstown
« on: 17 Feb 2016, 21:08:31 »

Just to keep you updated as we try to do before every update to Minecraft this is a short post to let you know about our plans regarding the impending release of Minecraft 1.9 and how it will work with Noobstown. This isn't a post about any specific changes, just about our plan for 1.9!

Mojang announced earlier today that 1.9 will likely be released next week on Thursday the 25th of February. We obviously will not be upgrading the server to 1.9 at this time so please DO NOT UPDATE YOUR MINECRAFT CLIENT(S) or select specifically to continue playing in 1.8.9 if you want to continue playing on Noobstown. We will eventually be working to open in 1.9 but this isn't likely to be happening immediately so please if you want to continue playing on Noobstown don't update until we announce it is possible to do so. (You updating and not connecting to Noobstown because of this will not be an excuse for your land to not be cleared.)

Minecraft 1.9 contains an enormous number of changes which are likely to dramatically effect how things function (even if to you it might not look like anything has changed, how the server deals with some of these changes is going to involve a lot of work). As a result a large number of the plugins we use will likely need some drastic updates to continue to work with the updated interactions, transportation, items and world locations 1.9 has to offer. We obviously don't want to update only for it to be extremely buggy and for issues to arise.

Our plan is to wait until we have a stable version of our server software and all of the important plugins we use have been updated. Previously this has on occasion taken multiple months; it will however become our primary focus once 1.9 is released. I'm going to be honest here; this change is likely to break a lot of the existing code we use and therefore this update is probably going to take just as long and possibly longer than ones have previously.

In regards to updating to Minecraft 1.9 some of the specific points we need to sort out before releasing include (not necessarily in this order, it depends how things work out):
  • Waiting to see if there is an update which is safe/stable enough allowing you to connect to Noobstown using a 1.9 client but without any of the features of 1.9 (just like we did with 1.8 ).
  • Waiting until a suitable development version of our server software is released to the point where we can work on upgrading our own custom plugins.
  • Upgrading all of our critical custom plugins, including: the current Wilderness system, several chat features, the entity/mob limiting system, account management systems, etc.
  • Waiting for stable updates to the third party plugins (ones we don't develop ourselves) we currently use, including Towny (unless it takes ages in which case we might just jump to the new Town system but no promises on that), mcMMO, LWC, etc. and then safely testing that these updates haven't broken things for Noobstown and if they have work to on a custom fix.
  • Producing any extra plugins/protections for things which have been added in 1.9 but which we don't want to allow until we can protect against griefing/theft etc. A list with more details about this is likely to be released in the future.
  • Updating the non-critical custom plugins we use, such as: the items gained from events, the drop party system, Snowball, etc.
  • Waiting until there is then a stable version of the server software which is suitable to be played on, and then testing this with all of the plugins we normally use.

Please be aware as explained previously in the post this update is likely to take sometime, and therfore don't update your Minecraft clients until we've said it's suitable to do so if you want to continue playing on Noobstown!

I hope you're excited about what is to come for Noobstown though.

(Just kidding of course) :D
So mean :(

Thank you so much admins! SO excited . :D  Was wondering if you guys turned the cupid torches on because lots of us were mining, excavation, killing mobs for hours and didn't get any?
It was on, definitely saw them working. I have however asked Cupid if he'd be willing to drop them off much more often than he was before; hopefully you'll be able to get some now :D.

Just to let you know you're not allowed to sell the mayor title(or any other rank) in your town; you're allowed to give it to someone else for free (as long as they agree to the town application rules), but cannot receive anything for doing so.

Also you cannot guarantee yourself a permanent position as co-mayor, the mayor in your town has overall control and is allowed to add/remove staff as they wish (as long as they're not selling ranks), if you make someone mayor they will have more control than you and could therefore remove your rank if they wanted to.

If you're unable to find a new mayor please contact me and I'll look into options for you.

Server Announcements / Announcement Announcements!
« on: 6 Feb 2016, 22:07:19 »

Just a small change...

When we post a new announcement on the site (just like this topic) if you don't read it we'll now let you know every so often in-game that it was made! Once every hour in-game we'll send you a short reminder that there are announcements you haven't read yet; it's that simple!

This should be great for those who don't often visit the site as you'll now know exactly when important new announcements have been posted, and it will allow you to easily keep up-to-date with changes that are happening! This feature might even be expanded on in the future to show more information about exactly what was posted, but for now it's just to let you know to check the site!

I hope you like this change, but as always if you have any feedback good or bad on this or have any questions too please post them.

New? / Re: Hallo! :)
« on: 4 Feb 2016, 19:55:40 »
Hiya! I'm a 23 and I live in the UK. I'm not super pro at Minecraft, but I enjoy making little houses and things.
Would love to make some new friends here. :)
Hey scarling,

Welcome to Noobstown and the Noobscraft community!

I hope you enjoy things here, we're currently working on lots of great things to be changed on the server so I hope you'll stick around to enjoy them :).

If you have any questions or need any help please just ask, things might seem confusing to begin with so be sure to ask for help with anything you don't quite understand. No matter how small or stupid it might be.

Welcome to the community though :).

Support / Re: Account Problems
« on: 3 Feb 2016, 19:04:58 »
Ok so this is a shared Minecraft account between both myself and a friend, but my friend has decided to change the account's username, effectively causing me to lose all of my progress within the server. My friend is unwilling to change the username back, so I made my own Minecraft account, but the username was unavailable. I was wondering if it were possible for ANYTHING to be transferred from the old account to my new account. My new account's username is ShaneZiggity, and I registered it on the server earlier today. My main concerns are my Vip+ membership, my Nbz, and my MCMMO skills, that I spent countless hours grinding and acquiring. If anyone can possibly help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Please help this reach the attention of a moderator or anyone with any sort of control over the server.
Ok so attempted to fix the problem myself by changing the username on my new account to kaleb077 (it was available) but unfortunately that just worsened my problem, since I am unable to join the server since that username was previously used by a different account, making my problem worse since I am unable to change the name for 30 days now.
So let me get this right?
  • You changed the name on your original kaleb0777 account? (And therefore this got locked out of the server)
  • So you then purchased a new account and changed the name on that to kaleb0777 and as a result neither account can now access the server?
If that's correct please say and I'll get back to you with a possible solution for the problem ;), if not please try to explain again.

On a quick note though incase it is completely possible, you could just change all of the names back to their original ones and they'd be able to get onto the server just fine :P? If that's not possible say and I might have a solution.

641
if you could that would be great but I'm not saying that you half to
As others have suggested we definitely have plans for adding more mini-games to the server, possibly including some for of PVP battles but it isn't a priority for us at the moment, but a good suggestion still. If you think this should be more of a priority and we should be working on them sooner please vote them up at https://www.noobscraft.com/work/. You can vote for the specific point here: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/more-mini-games//

You can however as others have suggested make your own in a town or in the wilderness; if you want some guidance for how this might be possible please let me know, I'd love to play it if you make it.

Support / Re: Height Limit for Mob Spawning?
« on: 27 Jan 2016, 07:35:12 »
This depends on the specific type of mob or animal. If you want to know about a specific one please explain. The specific spawning rules for all mobs are explained in good detail on the Minecraft Wiki though, so that might be a good place for you to look; we haven't changed any spawning conditions in relation to height.

Server Announcements / Town Commands Everywhere!
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 18:51:54 »

Just another small update to let you know that changes made to the server yesterday have meant that /town and /t commands are now possible in all worlds and not just the town one!

You can now get to your town spawn, view a list of the towns and almost all town commands anywhere on Noobstown! The commands themselves haven't changed; the change is that you can do them anywhere now!

We are still working on a new version of the Town system, but this change is for between now and then :D.

Again I hope this is useful. If you've got any questions please let me know.

If you notice any issues with this change you must report them.

Server Announcements / Disable Tips
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 03:50:22 »

For quite some time a number of you have been asking us if there would be a way to toggle whether or not tips were shown for you! Well today we've introduced that! Using /tips off you can turn off tips just for yourself, so you'll not see them anymore :D. If you then want to turn them back on just use /tips on.

This is just a small change but quite a few people had asked for it; I hope you enjoy.

You can see the work item here: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/toggle-tips/.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Suggestion & Ideas voting page
« on: 23 Jan 2016, 15:52:56 »
This is the project I'd been working on https://www.noobscraft.com/site/suggest-what-to-do-development-update/. If that's not what you were suggesting please explain again and I'll look into it again.

I also mentioned something like this a while ago https://www.noobscraft.com/idea/forum-like-system/
As I explained in that topic that is planned still. You can vote for it using the new system here: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/updated-site/.

646

As you are probably aware: for quite sometime now we've had a lot of different plans going at once. It has lead to some delays in the development as the work has been spread out rather than focusing on one project to completion. We've had lots of great suggestions and bugs reported to us and we plan to implement/fix a large number of them. Sadly because of how we operate I'm the only person available to directly develop these changes for Noobstown and as a result they're likely to take time to be slowly added. It is because of this delay that I've created a new feature for you to let us (mainly me, but the rest of the team too) know which of things you'd like to see sooner!

By visiting www.noobscraft.com/work and voting on things you can let me and the rest of the team know what work items you'd actually like to see sooner and also things which aren't quite as important for now. The plan is for me to work on things which are higher up the list until they're complete and then slowly work down; as things get completed they'll be removed from this list.

When you visit the page it might seem quite confusing but it's really quite simple. Each possible work item is listed on the page (ordered by items you've not voted on first, then by the current score it has). Clicking on the item will expand it to view the full description as well as any details about it. To the left of each item is an option for you to vote that item up or down:

It will expand the up/down arrow to allow you to pick whether you want to give between +3 and -3 to the score. Your choice of score should be based on whether you'd like to see it being worked on sooner or later (Not based on whether you agree with the idea, everything listed is definitely coming it's just a matter of time), so if you want to see it sooner give it a positive amount and then items which can wait longer give a lower amount.

You might think just giving everything the maximum or same amount is going to speed things up, but that's not going to help, if you do so you'll effectively be wasting your votes; I can only work on one thing at a time so just voting everything up or down won't effect the order. Try to give items a mix of points depending on what you'd honestly like to come sooner.

You're free to change your vote at any time so don't worry about that. Plus the score will never go below 0; so if you give it a negative amount that will simply negate any positive points which might be added in the future if it's below 0. If you want to see the order of the items update after you've voted simply reload the page.

As more suggestions come in I'll be adjusting the list as well as posting updates here and directly to the work items on that page, so be sure to keep checking it for updates. For now if you've suggested something or reported something which we agreed would be added and don't see it listed please let me know and I'll add it to the list. Some items have been merged together since they're quite small so be aware of that too.

If there is anything you don't quite understand listed on the page or how it works please just ask and I'll adjust the wording or explain it again.

The link again is: www.noobscraft.com/work.

We look forward to your feedback,
- The Noobscraft Team

Towns & Nations / Re: In Need of town
« on: 23 Jan 2016, 14:21:43 »
Please be aware as a mayor you aren't allowed to sell your town. You are able to give it to someone else (as long as they agree to uphold the server rules) for free; but you cannot do it in trade for anything (money, items, etc.).

Does Lilfey have any specific requirements for a town she might want? There are a few towns with inactive mayors and as such we might be willing to transfer ownership (as the server) to someone who was able to active and was willing to support the town.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: custom trees
« on: 20 Jan 2016, 19:13:30 »
I'm sorry I've only just gotten around to responding to this.

...It would be great if there were some way to obtain these wild trees for use on your wild plot or in your town...
It is definitely possible for us to do this, or something similar. It might not necessarily work through saplings, but possibly commands; I'll have to see when I get around to it. I will add it to the ever expanding list of things to add though for sure, I don't see anything wrong with it :D. We've had an idea of something very similar to be added for sometime now so it might come as part of that.

It will definitely need to be carefully considered as to prevent wood abuse though, but that will obviously have to be decided during development; if you have any ideas about that I'd love to know.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Suggestion & Ideas voting page
« on: 19 Jan 2016, 23:17:36 »
I think it would be cool if we would have a page on which we can add suggestion like this one and then people can either upvote or dwonvote them. In that way the admins can easily see which features people really want.
Haha this is really weird are you secretly spying on me or reading my mind? This is almost exactly what I've been working on for the last few weeks. Something very similar to what you've suggested will be released really soon haha, I'm just loading in all of the information now. It's even what I teased about in the update on the 9th (here). Exact details about what it will be will be available when it's ready to be used but here's a small screenshot of part of what is to come:

Very spooky though; great idea! :P :D

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Making Alchemy grindable again?
« on: 19 Jan 2016, 20:48:04 »
Hello.
As we all probably know, Alchemy is a pretty much dead skill because of the lengths you have to go to grind it. Some people do brew for certain potions, others do it for all potions, and so on. But what if we could re-add "switching" (switching between glowstone dust and redstone to give different time lengths and powers of the potion) BUT modify it to only being able to gain half of the XP you gain from every other process in the brewing? Or maybe just up the XP gain a bit, because it is pretty low.
I like Alchemy myself, the only reason I stopped was because it can't be grinded because of how time consuming and expensive it is. But it is still important, and it has great potions that can really benefit you at times (gathering, PvP/PvE, survival). It would encourage people to grind Alchemy itself instead of only buying the potions that people like I can brew because I have a high enough Alchemy level. Potions can really be pivotal and are always great to have. And with either of these changes, I think the interest for Alchemy would go up. Maybe not by much, but still up.

EDIT:
Oh and I still don't have clarification if all of the McMMO potions are in the server. :P
Firstly I've looked through our settings and yes all of the potions which mcMMO adds are available to be made at their respective levels.

As for you specific suggestion regarding the "switching" this change was introduced to mcMMO itself (a plugin that we don't develop or maintain we something have it running on Noobstown currently with our own settings and occasional tweaks). While we could change our settings to continue gaining XP for this it seems to contradict several of the other limitations in place for other skills (for example when mining you can't use the same block again and again to get more and more mining so why should you with potions?) and as such I personally think the change is fair.

You can see the mcMMO development discussion regarding this change here: https://github.com/mcMMO-Dev/mcMMO/issues/1926 If you disagree with the fundamental change it's something you might want to bring up there.

I will bring up your concerns about the difficulty in "grinding" Alchemy with Foob though, but I don't really see an issue. We're meant to be a server you'll be able to play on for years to come; in a few months or years if you've max levelled everything you'll be moaning there is nothing to do, so by making it slower we're increasing your possible gameplay time and in the process offering more variety of things you can do on the server as a whole. If you possibly spread out your work or didn't try to straight up "grind" skills but just instead used them as you played it might be more enjoyable (or focused on multiple skills at once as to not find each one such a chore); but I suppose that all depends on what you want out of Noobstown. If anyone disagrees with me there though I'd love to know your input on this.
