Site Announcements / It's Advent!
« on: 1 Dec 2013, 01:02:24 »
As always we've put an Advent calendar on the site like we normally do; this counts down the days until Christmas. As the server isn't currently online we're going to give out different amounts of Tokens each day.

Simply check back on the calendar each day and click the space which represents the day's date (according to GMT); this will reveal the gift of the day.

You can access the calendar at: http://www.noobscraft.com/advent/ or by clicking the "Advent" tab on the menu.

Happy Holidays,
- The Noobscraft Team

On a side note we are still waiting for a stable version of Bukkit to be released before we release V6. Information about why this is the case can be found here: http://www.noobscraft.com/server-announcements/november-update!/

If your video is already on YouTube or a range of other popular media sites you don't even need to do that; if you literally post the link to the video here on the site it will automatically be embedded into your posts.

Such as posting:

Code: [Select]

Will produce:

Server Announcements / Re: Auction Preview
« on: 7 Nov 2013, 22:24:43 »
...
wouldnt this allow people to use it as a big chest that never gets full?

or is that the point of the paying money?
The items can only be deposited/collected at the Auction Houses in spawn and selected areas around the world, so while they could do this it wouldn't be very useful.

Server Announcements / Re: Auction Preview

...
Some questions not answered by the tiny video:
-What is the limit of stacks that can be stored into the "collection" inventory?
-Do unsold items go into the same "collection" inventory as bought items?
-Is there a time limit of any sort to retrieve such item?
-Do we get the fee back if the auction expires?
Both the deposit and collection inventories have no limit to the number of items you can store in them. Items awaiting collection will simply queue up until you give more space in the in-game collection chest. There is also no given time limit for collecting these items, they will simply be sat there waiting for you the next time you come online. If there is no winner of an auction the item will be sent back to you awaiting collection. Also if you put an item into the web inventory and later decide you don't want to auction it you can simply drag it over into the collection inventory and it will then be sat waiting for you in-game.

As for the fees; the fixed 25-100Nbz fee is charged as you put the item up for auction and is a cost for listing the item in the Auction House, this will not be refunded, the 5% fee however will not be charged as 5% of nothing is still nothing.

Hopefully that answers your questions.

« on: 6 Nov 2013, 21:25:04 »
Individual topics can be created for each individual discussion if you wish but please don't encourage topics like this. The reason it's a forum and not just a chat is to make sure that the content is all connected to certain topics and can therefore be easily view and related to each other. I have no problem with discussion topic for the items you want to discuss but please create new topics (as in a forum topic) for new topics (as in a different point of conversation). Thanks.

kk thanks, i was also slightly confused because i saw few threads by use guys saying have you have to transport the server. The threads were a couple months ago
Our original plan was to move the physical server between two different datacentres in the UK however we then decided it would be more sensible to get a new server in the new location in America. It isn't hosted in anyone's home.

If its ok for to me ask, I've always wondered a few questions about noobstown.

1. First of all, why not have a hosting company host it, instead of hosting it yourself?
2. Can you still have DDos without a hosting company? (its probably a yes but i just feel like asking to make sure)

If any of these questions are not allowed sorry, :(
I'm slightly confused by your question, we already use a "hosting company" to host our servers and sites. Our server and site is already "hosted" by an external company, we own some of the hardware but they supply a robust network to connect the servers to the internet and to ensure that our connection is good as well as provide other services. (Hence why we accept donations to pay for this service)

We use a robust DDoS protection service provided by our datacentre, they control the way that this works to try and reduce any problems sudden high traffic may cause, it is unlikely you are going to be able to achieve this on a home network.

Site Announcements / Recent Unexpected Downtime
« on: 15 Oct 2013, 06:44:02 »
A recent abnormally high amount of traffic caused parts of the site to go offline for a period of time earlier today. This problem has hopefully been fixed and we will be looking into ways to ensure it doesn't occur again.

Sorry for any problems this downtime may have caused.

Other / Re: Forum games and spam
« on: 14 Oct 2013, 01:52:05 »
SPAM has always been against our site and server rules, this includes "pointless" posts, when the game (http://www.noobscraft.com/other/game!-15502/) was originally made the posts in the topic did have some meaning to the game in question regarding who was currently winning and other conversations (all of which originally followed the rules of the site). What we don't want is posts which literally add nothing to the site; simply posting a random string of characters is in no way fun or meaningful. As I explained in the post where "the game" was locked, meaningful games where the aim is not simply to post are allowed as long as they follow the other rules.

As for the most recent posts on the homepage of the site, that is simply a list of recent posts made, if you want to view all topics which have had posts made recently then you can see a list of recently updated topics by visiting http://www.noobscraft.com/unread/ or by going to the "Forum" tab then "All Unread New Posts" in the dropdown menu; this page lists each topic which has been posted in only once in order of when the last post was most recently posted and will only show posts which you haven't already seen. Although your suggestion regarding changing the homepage feature may be useful; I'll discuss this with the other admins and you may see it change.

Noobstown General / Re: Redstone in V6
« on: 8 Oct 2013, 17:18:20 »
We never purposefully delayed redstone signals themselves nor are we planning to. On the release of V6 we are likely to continue to have a delay on pistons triggering as there are still some known bugs caused by them rapidly pulsing. Hopefully that answers your questions regarding that.

We also don't plan to make any changes to the vanilla redstone other than the piston delay (as long as they aren't passing into unloaded chunks, which may not work as normal.) so anything which works for you locally should work on Noobstown (excluding things involving pistons).

Could you possibly explain what you mean by short-circuit burning out too if you still need that answering?

Noobstown General / Re: Webite
« on: 5 Oct 2013, 21:17:35 »
Ive noticed when we type in noobstown.com it doesnt come to the site anymore? before we could do eitehr noobscraft.com or noobstown.com and would still bring us to noobscraft.com. Why did this stop?
This is because we recently moved our physical server and updated the hardware, as part of the transfer the files which redirect you here weren't included. I've now fixed this and it should now redirect as before. Thanks for reporting it.

Noobstown General / Re: Tokens
« on: 4 Oct 2013, 23:19:34 »
...

They are now coupons which you need to use before they expire

Tokens are not the same as Points. Tokens were a reward for playing at the end of V5; while Points were a way we rewarded players for donating to us. In V6 we're replacing Points with a new donation reward system, information about this change can be found here: http://www.noobscraft.com/server-announcements/donation-points-update-information/#msg66342

We've still got a record of all individual's Points however in preparation for the release of V6; Tokens have been put into the top area of the site and Points have been removed from that area.

If you want the raw skin itself you can also change the f/b to be an "r" and then remove the numbers after the user id. Such as: http://www.noobscraft.com/images/skin/r/26546.png

;)

« on: 19 Sep 2013, 21:26:53 »
I've replied to the topic made about this "issue":
We're working on it right now, there are tens of thousands of players and Tokens to move over and it's taking time; which is why some people have had their skill tokens already added and others haven't.

Once it's all complete I'll repost and hopefully then values you are supposed to have will be correct.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Our Log Time!
« on: 10 Sep 2013, 22:41:35 »
Side question, will our log time be reset in v6? or will it continue to go up.
We're resetting everything; it's a new start. So it will be reset.

As part of the site updates (which will be coming after we've released the V6 server) we plan on making it so that on your site profile you see your in-game stats; including total time online. Hopefully that is what you were wanting :).

Site Announcements / And We're Back!
« on: 27 Aug 2013, 05:21:00 »
Just a quick message regarding the recent site downtime:

I'd like to apologise for the last few hours while the site was down unexpectedly. This was a problem caused partly by our data-centre; the fault has been rectified and the site should be back running as normal again.

As with all our downtime; we're putting in steps to try and ensure that similar problems like this don't occur again.
