Server Announcements / Town Commands Everywhere!
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 18:51:54 »

Just another small update to let you know that changes made to the server yesterday have meant that /town and /t commands are now possible in all worlds and not just the town one!

You can now get to your town spawn, view a list of the towns and almost all town commands anywhere on Noobstown! The commands themselves haven't changed; the change is that you can do them anywhere now!

We are still working on a new version of the Town system, but this change is for between now and then :D.

Again I hope this is useful. If you've got any questions please let me know.

If you notice any issues with this change you must report them.

Server Announcements / Disable Tips
« on: 24 Jan 2016, 03:50:22 »

For quite some time a number of you have been asking us if there would be a way to toggle whether or not tips were shown for you! Well today we've introduced that! Using /tips off you can turn off tips just for yourself, so you'll not see them anymore :D. If you then want to turn them back on just use /tips on.

This is just a small change but quite a few people had asked for it; I hope you enjoy.

You can see the work item here: https://www.noobscraft.com/work/full/toggle-tips/.

As you are probably aware: for quite sometime now we've had a lot of different plans going at once. It has lead to some delays in the development as the work has been spread out rather than focusing on one project to completion. We've had lots of great suggestions and bugs reported to us and we plan to implement/fix a large number of them. Sadly because of how we operate I'm the only person available to directly develop these changes for Noobstown and as a result they're likely to take time to be slowly added. It is because of this delay that I've created a new feature for you to let us (mainly me, but the rest of the team too) know which of things you'd like to see sooner!

By visiting www.noobscraft.com/work and voting on things you can let me and the rest of the team know what work items you'd actually like to see sooner and also things which aren't quite as important for now. The plan is for me to work on things which are higher up the list until they're complete and then slowly work down; as things get completed they'll be removed from this list.

When you visit the page it might seem quite confusing but it's really quite simple. Each possible work item is listed on the page (ordered by items you've not voted on first, then by the current score it has). Clicking on the item will expand it to view the full description as well as any details about it. To the left of each item is an option for you to vote that item up or down:

It will expand the up/down arrow to allow you to pick whether you want to give between +3 and -3 to the score. Your choice of score should be based on whether you'd like to see it being worked on sooner or later (Not based on whether you agree with the idea, everything listed is definitely coming it's just a matter of time), so if you want to see it sooner give it a positive amount and then items which can wait longer give a lower amount.

You might think just giving everything the maximum or same amount is going to speed things up, but that's not going to help, if you do so you'll effectively be wasting your votes; I can only work on one thing at a time so just voting everything up or down won't effect the order. Try to give items a mix of points depending on what you'd honestly like to come sooner.

You're free to change your vote at any time so don't worry about that. Plus the score will never go below 0; so if you give it a negative amount that will simply negate any positive points which might be added in the future if it's below 0. If you want to see the order of the items update after you've voted simply reload the page.

As more suggestions come in I'll be adjusting the list as well as posting updates here and directly to the work items on that page, so be sure to keep checking it for updates. For now if you've suggested something or reported something which we agreed would be added and don't see it listed please let me know and I'll add it to the list. Some items have been merged together since they're quite small so be aware of that too.

If there is anything you don't quite understand listed on the page or how it works please just ask and I'll adjust the wording or explain it again.

The link again is: www.noobscraft.com/work.

We look forward to your feedback,
- The Noobscraft Team

A quick update post about things going on in Noobstown right now, and looking into the future generally...

Worlds
We've reset the Mining World, the Nether and the End for January!

Coming Soon...
We have lots of great plans for this next year, and we look forward to showing them off as they come (things do take time to make so it won't all be happening overnight :D). There will be some features coming really soon (that's actually soon, not a normal "Noobstown really soon" :P) allowing you to decide the plans for what we should be focusing on. Exact details of that will all be explained when it's released.

Theme of the Month
This month we don't really have an exact theme as such, but we'll be continuing on from last month with a Winter theme; there will be some unscheduled events over this month so be sure to be online to get a chance to take part and the quests from Noobmas will be around a bit longer. We'll go back to a proper theme in February!

Server Announcements / Looking Back on 2015!
« on: 2 Jan 2016, 22:03:26 »
Just like we did last year we've compiled some possibly interesting facts from the past year of Noobstown and the Noobscraft community. (Some of these were taken from just before this post was published so would include any changes made in the first 40ish hours of 2016)

Server Announcements / Multiple Account Important Information
« on: 30 Dec 2015, 19:58:06 »
Due to the recent actions of certain players we'd like to reiterate some specifics in regards to those who have/use multiple accounts. If you don't use more than one account and never intend to this is mostly irrelevant to you.

On Noobstown we allow people who own multiple Minecraft accounts to connect to them individually and play on each independently; we'll treat each account as its own entity and as such they'll all be entitled to take part in our events and claim prizes. That's irrespective of if the same person is playing on many different accounts.

We have however never allowed people to connect to Noobstown using accounts which they do not own; the use of accounts which you do not own is not only against the Noobstown rules; but can be considered illegal in certain places including the UK, the EU, and the USA. If you are caught using an account which you do not own we will act.

As a result of the actions of certain individuals recently we're therefore also introducing a new policy regarding the number of accounts which can connect from the same household in a period of time. This limit is more than enough for any legitimate user to have their whole family play together; if you aren't abusing it's extremely unlikely you'll ever notice this change. If however you reach this limit you (and every account you have ever connected with) will be automatically be banned from the server and we will investigate your account activity and act accordingly.

If you have recently been using accounts which you do not have appropriate access to (and we haven't already been in contact) now is your final chance to own up through PMing me on the site. If you're caught from this point onwards the action will be more serious.

If you are simply playing with accounts you or your family own then there isn't anything you need to worry about; this change is to tackle those abusing the rules and to ensure everyone is aware of our stance. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please contact me or reply and I'll be sure to answer; we don't want you to be concerned.

Server Announcements / Gifting is Back! And it's Improved!
« on: 20 Dec 2015, 14:15:12 »
/gift is now back on Noobstown!

You've been asking for it for months now and we've finally brought back a new form of gifting just in time for Noobmas! You can now use /gift [name] again to send gifts to other players in-game. This time it uses a slightly different (but hopefully nicer) way to collect though.

Each player can now receive 54 gifts at once without having to collect them (that's a possible of over 93,000 items which could be waiting for them)! When you send a gift just use /gift [name] and it will open an extra inventory on top of yours, put any items you want to send to the user in there and then close your inventory; they'll automatically then be sent to that user. You can now sent up to 5 gifts to each player without them having to collect any from you!

To collect a gift you've received just do /gift collect. This will open a new menu which lists all of the gifts you've received! Just find the one you're looking for (most recent ones are shown first) and click on the sender's head to claim it; the items they sent will then be passed on to your real inventory! It's that simple! There is no extra chest like previously.

We were aware with the old system that people often received gifts annoyingly from players they didn't want to. So now you can block a player from sending you gifts; just use /gift block [name] and they won't be able to send you anymore gifts!

If you believe you had items left from the previous gifting system which you never collected please PM me, and I'll transfer it over to the new system for you!

I hope you all really enjoy this change, we know people loved the old system and hopefully this one will be even better! If you've got any questions or ideas regarding this just respond! If you notice any bugs with it you must report them.

Server Announcements / Town Money Issues - Fixed!
« on: 4 Dec 2015, 21:22:55 »
Just a quick update regarding a recent bug fix. Earlier today you may have noticed that the balances within certain towns changed slightly. This is because we've rectified an issue which causes town balances to be frozen for the last week or so.

Any towns which spent money during this time have now correctly had that money withdrawn and those towns where the balance should have increased due to income or depositing have had their money correctly increased. The balances are effectively now correct to what they should have been had the bug never existing. Just to keep you updated.

This fix also sorts out any issues players have been reporting with /town deposit and /town withdraw.

If you notice any further issues or questions regarding this please let me know. Sorry for any problems the issue may have caused at the time, it is now sorted.

Server Announcements / Unexpected Downtime
« on: 29 Nov 2015, 01:51:16 »
UPDATE: The downtime is hopefully over. More Info

We are aware of the current unexpected downtime. We're sorry about this and are working to get the server back up as soon as possible.

Until then you could join others on our TeamSpeak server (voice.noobstown.com). Again sorry, we're looking to sort this as soon as we can. More information/updates to follow.

Server Announcements / FREE Land for Everyone!
« on: 18 Oct 2015, 20:37:50 »

This is a big announcement for the gameplay on Noobstown! You can now get Wilderness land for free simply by playing on the server!

For every minute you play on the server you'll be closer to earning yourself a free wilderness chunk. For every total of 180 minutes you play on the server you'll earn yourself a free wilderness chunk. (Excluding extra fees)

If you visit https://www.noobscraft.com/free you can see how long it is until you'll earn your next free chunk. It's very simple just play to earn free land; if you want to expand faster than the free land you're getting then you can still do that just like before it will cost the exact same price. Buying land is exactly the same too, it will just tell you it's FREE instead of the price it should be.

Obviously with this being a new feature we'll be keeping an eye on things and may adjust the timings as we see fair in the future. Your feedback would be great.

Just to remind you that cheating the AFK kicking system is against the rules and you will get into trouble for doing so.

I hope you enjoy this feature we look forward to seeing what you have to say about it if anything.

Site Announcements / 1.8 Game Statistics Now Available
« on: 20 Sep 2015, 19:29:34 »
As you're hopefully aware, here on the site we provide you access to view the Top 10 Players for almost all of the statistics that are available in Minecraft (Press Esc and go to statistics); including information regarding every single individual item and block. You can access these all at www.noobscraft.com/gamestats/ or under the Community tab. Since we updated to 1.8 the statistics relating to blocks/items were been broken, but this is now fixed.

All blocks and item statistics on the site now include information from both before the 1.8 update and since (when you press Esc in-game you will however only see values since 1.8 for these), it also includes a variety of other new statistics which have only been collected since the start of 1.8; you can view all of these too! I'm aware of several players who wanted access to these so they're now fixed and available properly! (Sorry it took so long like always :()

If you have any ideas for cool new statistics we could add (either raw values or by merging data from multiple to make a more detailed value) then please Suggest them.

Server Announcements / Withers are Back!
« on: 30 Aug 2015, 15:00:58 »

Just to let everyone know that Withers are now back on Noobstown, you no longer need to use the villager to trade in your Wither Skeleton heads for a Nether star; you can now fight the Wither boss once again. As always this is only in the Nether and the End to protect the worlds though.

Enjoy this; I'm working through a big list of fixes and other features so more things will hopefully be coming soon too!

Towny Issues
In regards to the issues with Towny, we are completely aware of these and are working for a solution which is stable and safe for the server, the security of your items and blocks is extremely important to us and as a result a full fix may take a bit longer to be put in place. We're truly sorry that it is taking so long to sort these issues out and we're aware of the effect it is possibly having on gameplay. More information about this will be posted as we become aware or as it's fixed.

Future Updates
In future news although it may seem like things have been progressing slowly over the last few weeks/months I personally have been working very hard on updates to a large number of different aspects of both Noobstown and the Noobscraft.com site (sorry for being so vague but more information will be released as it gets closer to them being ready for use) and these updates will hopefully become used actively in the coming weeks and months. We're still working to make things much nicer for everyone and to improve the community.

Site Announcements / Towns are Now on the Map!
« on: 18 Feb 2015, 10:48:49 »

Ever wondered where the different towns are in the Town world? You can now see where they all are on the live map!

Earlier today we released a requested feature to display the location of each town spawn on the live map. You should be able to move around and see where each of the different towns are. To access the live map simply visit https://www.noobscraft.com/map/ or click the link under the "Community" tab.

Once on the map if you don't want to see the town locations simply clicking this icon: will allow you to turn the different layers of icons on or off.

I hope you like this change, any comments would be appreciated and as always if you have any questions please feel free to ask them too.

Guides / Wilderness Guide
« on: 7 Feb 2015, 22:20:20 »

Updated for the latest release!

This guide will outline some of the information and commands you will need to know for owning and controlling your wilderness land.

What is wilderness land?
Wilderness land is land owned by players in the Wilderness world, it is protected from all users apart from those who are granted permission to act on land. Inorder to effectively build in the wilderness world you will need to buy land and control it, because of this griefing won't be a problem, if you give someone the right to use/build/edit your land you do so at your own risk.

What is a chunk?
The Minecraft world is split into 16x16 block columns from which all blocks are located. Using the wilderness world, much like with towny you will own 16x16 areas from bedrock to sky-limit. To highlight the chunk you are currently in simply type /wild chunk highlight.

Your Land
At any time you can type /wild chunks list to get a full list of all the land you own. Using this you can also teleport to your owned land using /wild chunks home [NUM] where the optional [NUM] is the chunk number.

Map
Using /wild chunks map you can get a chat representation of the current Wilderness chunks around you. The different shapes and colours represent different states of chunk near you. This can be a useful feature to determine where to buy your next spot or to find out what land around you is actually owned.

Other Land
All land which isn't set to be public, and you aren't an owner/builder will be locked from your building; you can only build in areas you have right to do so. If you want to know information about a chunk you can type /wild chunk info, and as previously explained you can highlight the borders of the chunk.

Buying Land
Buying land/a chunk is simple, typing the command: /wild chunk buy will check if you are able to purchase the chunk you are currently standing in, from there you can then type /wild chunk buy confirm if you're allowed to buy the land and it is at a suitable price for you.

Most users will get their first 10 connected chunks for free (A connected chunk is one where in one of the directions you are directly located next to another chunk you own.) from there onwards the prices gradually increase as you own more land. If you decide you want to split away from your existing land you can do so without selling it, it will cost an extra fee though. As a member you'll also earn 1 free chunk for every 3 hours of gameplay on the server; you can find more information about that at Noobscraft.com/free, and using /wild free in-game.

Inorder to ensure that everyone has enough space to enjoy the wilderness you cannot purchase land which is too close to another user. (Apart from "Friends" which are explained later)

Selling Land
Much like buying land, selling land can be done using /wild chunk sell and then confirming it with /wild chunk sell confirm. When you sell land you will remove all your rights to access any of the blocks in the land and will lose anything you've put in the chunk.

Transferring Land
You can set up your land to be transferred to another player by typing /wild chunk transfer. This will set your land up for purchase by any of your friends; they will be able to then take the land from you (using /wild chunk buy) for a fee and the price of their next chunk. Once a friend of yours has purchased the land from you, you will no longer have any control of it, it will be given directly to them. Please be careful when doing this, you will lose your land! If once you have set a chunk up to be transferred you no longer wish to do it and you still own the chunk you can simply type the command again and any transfers will be cancelled.

Managing Land
If at any point you want to lock a particular chunk you own so that your builders (explained later) don't have rights you can do so using /wild chunk lock. If you don't want to lock your chunk but want to make certain features public (everyone can do it) you can do so using /wild chunk public, from here you can choose what feature to toggle as explained in-game.
  • Build = Give everyone builder rights. (Do it at your own risk)
  • Herd = Give everyone the rights to interact with the animals on your land.
  • Switch = Give everyone the right to open doors, use levers, buttons, etc.

Allocating Builders
Builders are individuals who have full access to modify virtually all aspects of your chunk (apart from the permission allocation and ownership itself). They can break and place blocks and do most Minecraft actions on your land. To view your current builders you can type /wild builder list. You can add builders by typing /wild builder add [NAME] replacing [NAME] with the name of the player you want to be a builder, similarly you can remove them using /wild builder remove [NAME].

Organisers
These are individuals who have full access to all of the units (explained later) on your land providing you haven't denied their access. Managing these people is very similar to your builders; use /wild organiser list to get a list of your current organisers. You can add organisers by typing /wild organiser add [NAME] replacing [NAME] with the name of the player you want to be an organiser, similarly you can remove them using /wild organiser remove [NAME].

Friends
If you trust a few particular users you can "friend" them. You can view these players using /wild friend list. Adding a friend is easy using the command /wild friend add [NAME] replacing name with the player's name. You can remove friends using /wild friend remove [NAME]. Both of these commands will effect both you and the other individual. Becoming friends is not something to be taken lightly, doing so will allow them to purchase land directly next to yours, thus limiting your growth, it will however not give them building rights; you'll need to make them a builder as well to do that.

Chests, Furnaces, etc.
For the purposes of keeping it simple any block where other items can be stored within it we're referring to as a "unit" (this replaces LWC in the wilderness and connects it all to your owned land). Commands relating to these blocks therefore being /wild unit. When you or and builder of your land first place any unit it is defaulted so only you, as the land owner, are able to access it. You can however change the access rights to give certain individuals or groups of individuals the right to access your units. Only you as the land owner are able to perform commands on a unit.

To act on a unit you must be directly facing it with your cross-hair over the block you want to act on, ensuring that no other blocks are in the way. To get information about a particular unit type the command /wild unit info.

By default anyone you have added as an Organiser (see above) is able to access all units you place on your land. Plus if a builder or another user places the unit themselves (having got permission to build on your land) they will automatically be granted access. You can toggle allowing your organisers access to the unit using /wild unit organisers while looking at the unit. Similarly you can allow/disallow your builders access using /wild unit builders. To see whether they currently have access use the info command above.

You can also give specific users who are able to access the unit; these will be given access irrespective of your organiser or builders settings. Just type /wild unit allow [NAME], it's a toggle so type it once to add them and then again to remove them.

If you want to you can also deny a specific users access, this will override any other groups they may be part of and block their access to a unit. To do this just do /wild unit deny [NAME]. They will be unable to then access that specific unit.

If you wanted to you could make the unit public; this would allow anyone to access it (apart from those in the deny list as explained above). To do this simply look at the unit and type /wild unit public, if at any point you no longer want it to be public you can type it again and it will reset.

At any point you can reset a unit back to its default settings by simply typing /wild unit reset. Once you have done this you can then check the permissions as explained above using the info command and set any you want to.

Shortcuts
There are a lot of commands to type out using the Wilderness system, you can tab complete things, but if you want to do things quickly you can also use some of these shortcuts:
  • '/wild home [number]' = '/wild chunks home [number]'
  • '/wild mark' = '/wild chunks mark'
  • '/wild buy' = '/wild chunk buy'
  • '/wild sell' = '/wild chunk sell'
  • '/wild map' = '/wild chunks map'
  • '/wild go' = '/wild chunks go'
  • '/wild list' = '/wild chunks list'
  • '/wild free' = '/wild chunks free'
There are also hundreds of spelling variants for each of the commands, so hopefully things should be easy to use. If you don't understand anything just ask for support!

Server Announcements / Username Changing - Update
« on: 15 Jan 2015, 15:04:02 »
This is an important update please read!

As many of you are likely to be aware; Mojang recently updated their information regarding the updating name changing abilities within Minecraft. (https://mojang.com/2015/01/announcing-minecraft-name-changes/). As we explained several months ago (https://www.noobscraft.com/server/username-changing-minecraft-1-8/) we will not be supporting the ability to change your username at the point that Mojang is releasing it.

On the 4th of February they plan to enable the ability to change your Minecraft username. If at this point (or any point up until we announce it is possible) you do change your name to anything other than exactly the name we have recorded you will be unable to access any of the CloudSquid servers.

As explained several months ago; we use a large number of plugins on our servers which provide extra functionality such as Towny and mcMMO, etc. Most of these plugins store data about you by attaching your information to your username; this won't be possible in the future as you will have the ability to change your name. Whilst we have taken steps to ensure all our custom plugins are updated to the new system of using user ids, as you know we don't develop all of the plugins we use; and we cannot force third-party developers to adopt this change.

Several months ago we introduced a system which will block all users who have changed/are using a changed name; this is still in use! If on or after the 4th of February you choose to change your name you will not be able to access Noobstown! This change is hopefully only temporary but is necessary to ensure the safety of your in-game items/land/experience and the server as a whole. It is however likely we will continue to use this for the foreseeable future, if you have no plans to change your name then you will be completely unaffected by this change. As part of this update you will be unable to access any of the CloudSquid servers plus your Noobscraft.com account if:
  • You change your username to something different to the exact one you've already used on our servers. (This includes adjusting the case of your name!)
  • You use a username which has already been used by another user of our servers.

Just to make that clear: if you decide to change your username you will be unable to access the server or site for the foreseeable future. This will also not be considered a valid reason for inactivity in regards to land.

If you have any questions regarding this change (both the change to Minecraft and our change) please feel free to reply to this topic.

Server Announcements / Upcoming 1.8 Update
« on: 27 Nov 2014, 17:09:53 »
Just to start off I'm going to make it very clear this is not a post explaining we have updated to 1.8 yet! We will make a post explaining this when it happens!

Earlier today there was an announcement from the site which provides the server software that Noobstown currently uses, explaining that their first release of a 1.8 compatible version would be released in the next few days! This is simply a post explaining that we'll be updating as soon as possible and once we're sure that the majority of the plugins we use will work as they should. Therefore Noobstown's update to 1.8 will hopefully be within the next week (but obviously if we experience problems then it might be delayed)!

As most of you know 1.8 has hundreds of new and improved features! Most of these will be available from day one when we update, however as always we have to ensure the safety of everyone's builds and items, and as such some things won't be available right away but will be soon! The following is a list of things which we currently believe won't be normal right from the start:
  • Slime blocks initially won't be available to craft or place because of their ability to connect with other blocks. (Once a way for us to safely control this is added to our server software we'll allow them)
  • The new fence gates initially won't be locked and it is unlikely they'll be lockable using LWC commands. (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll protect them from being opened)
  • The new doors initially won't be locked and it is unlikely they'll be lockable using LWC commands. (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll protect them from being opened)
  • Iron trap doors initially won't be locked and it is unlikely they'll be lockable using LWC commands. (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll protect them from being opened)
  • Sponges won't be placeable initially due to the fact we currently have no way to stop their water absorbing effects. (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll allow them)
  • Banners/Flags will be allowed, however you are to use them at your own risk (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll be sure to ensure that there is no way for others to change them)
  • Armour stands initially won't be available to craft or place because of their ability to hold other items, and the fact they are classed as an entity. (Once a way for us to safely control this is added to our server software we'll allow them)
  • Spawners won't be changeable by mob eggs because of the ability to change spawners not owned by yourself, and the ability to change hostile mob spawners (Once a way for us to safely control this is added to our server software we'll allow most of them to be used to change selected spawners *hints*)
  • It is unlikely that rabbits/bunnies will be protected as animals on owned wilderness land to begin with (Once a way for us to safely control them is added to our server software we'll protect them from being damaged by non-farmers/builders)
We understand that some of these features were what people would have been looking forward to, they will all be available eventually but we need to make sure things are safe first! During our update to 1.8 we also have plans to implement several all changes to Noobstown, including hundreds of updates to the wilderness land protection system, the biggest update to V6 since it began! *hype?* More information on these will be posted in a changelog when/just before we do the update!

If you have any questions/comments please feel free to make them below!

Incase you missed the blue at the top of the post I want to make it very clear this is not a post explaining we have updated to 1.8 yet! We will make a post explaining this when it happens!
