I'm getting the same problem/situation. It looks like the splash shound (lol shound) is now softer so I had to turn up my volume. But still, it's now completely different.

Some 1.6 items are now available at the shop. For those who ran out of, or can't afford, gold ingots, a Spawn Horse and a Saddle are available.

You do still receive xp from taming the animal.
Mmmk thanks for pointing it out! So technically you can grind Taming XP by staying at wolf spawners and have a full inventory of bones in hand. And maybe a hotbar slot for a sword, but that's not very ...humane.

How come the creators of the clag mod or whatever it is cant just make it take away harmful mobs or everything but tamale creatures (cats dogs horses)?
Becuase some ppl would come on the server for a day tame 10 dogs, 2 horses, and 5 cats and never return to the server leavening theise things to wander around and do nothing
*cough* 10 dogs *cough* Oh! A tamale creature?

What AQW said. Save the world first, and then TNT it.
But personally, I have no interest in destroying builds with explosion.

If he is Smart, who am I?

You're Max. But Max is Smart. And I'm, umm... So yeah. Thanks Olah and Wolfie for that info. When we do upgrade to 1.6 though, ...I call dibs on the hardened clay market!

Hello fellow noobs,
I just wanted to let the admins and everybody know that this is probably the most motivating thing that has happened for around 6 months for me for minecraft in general. I've been away at an internship for nearly 7 months now at Disney World and I'm finishing in 1 month! I've been too busy to play any games, but as my internship comes to an end, Noobstown V6 will be just beginning! I hope I will bring back my once beloved town Oakvale, and rise up and prosper one more time. Glad to be excited and ready to join the action and most of all, creativity once again. I will see you guys soon!
Thank you,
fish_james Founder of Oakvale
Fish!!! So glad to hear from you man. Glad to know your internship worked out. With Oakvale being part of the Phoenixia realm Since we're friends, I'd be happy to lend a hand with Oakvale V6, although I'll be focused on Tortuga. V6 here we come!

Ah! Derpface I distinctly remember setting that to Commands Only (among other changes) when my lappy was lagging yesterday. Noooow it makes sense. (Lol at myself) The commands work out fine, which were all that I've been using, so I never thought anything was wrong until someone hollered at me. Mystery solved. Thanks a bunch, edix!

I attempt to reply to a couple of folks' "Hi's" then it says Cannot send chat message. Is this what it's like being muted? Then this mute is kinda random. (I don't remember saying anything bad... ) Or is it just a chat bug? Either way, it looks like I'm in a one-way communication mode Only incoming chat messages. I can still send Party chat though. But no one in the party was on so nobody replied. Meanwhile, in the process of trying to figure out what went wrong, I stumbled upon the ignore list. If one types in /ignore, it'll now list off all the people you've ever ignored in your whole Noobstown life. Two folks in my ignore list are "list" and "help". xD

So fred r u saying if u tame a dog u get exp for taming and if u let dogs kill a mob then u also get taming exp?
It seems that taming wolves and ocelots do not give Taming XP any more. Either way, my methods rely on getting Taming XP primarily from mob kills.

There are people who are respectable enough to take the items and then ask around "Who died?" intending to give them back. But then that doesn't always mean they give back items that might be useful to them. If only evidence of the theft can be saved. But the "You Died" screen's view can't be adjusted, so one will have to be lucky and wait for the player to come into view. This "wait" will conflict with the interest of respawning to get back to the death site in time to retrieve the items, so it's still risky. This might sound rather arrogant, but it seems that "Don't die Natsu!" is the best way to prevent the situation. Therefore, - Always put on and maintain full diamond armor
- Be ready to insta-tp when health is low (a /t spawn or a safe /home area)
- Always save a hotbar slot for food to keep hunger bar full
- Always save a hotbar slot for an Instant Health or a regenerative item
What hurts more is death by PvP/combat mcMMO glitch, and so, - Only PvP with people you trust to give them back in case of death
I had one other idea but I will hold my tongue, for now. *back to reading Fairy Tail manga*

I enjoy the topic of architecture. Not to be confused with interior design, which I find good for end-of-the-day, stress-relief browsing. My favorites are (pardon the rough description, didn't know a proper term yet, but I ended up googling something) those unusually designed types. No wonder Orbit gave me the Oddest House in Town award. Airplanes and warehouses converted to livable houses, underground or treetop houses, and other odd things I StumbleUpon. I'm sure I read a few notable architects at some point, but now I forgot. For example, really compact houses that make you ask how in the world people can live there. Multifunctional furniture and appliances, and rooms that actually fold out, like this tiny apartment. And, this hobbit home in Switzerland. And, this Free Spirit Sphere. And finally, this upside down house (one of many worldwide). I tried to build one in my Noobtopia embassy, but I became a little inactive and the town staff re-purposed the plot. Is there an umbrella term for this style of architecture? Expressionism maybe?

Host (H): Hey! Welcome to Noobscraft! I'm your host Host, and you've just tuned in to Noobstown Memories! Tonight we have with us a Noobstowner who you've probably heard of-- please welcome, ummfredfelizco![Applause and talk show music] Ummfred (U): Hello everyone! Glad to be here tonight. Nice IGN by the way, Host!H: Why thank you! It took me weeks to decide. But yours seems like you came up with your IGN within seconds.U: Yepp, quite literally. Effortless thinking.H: Effortless, like our 5-minute registration system. Tell me, ummfred, when did you join Noobstown?U: Uhh, around the time San registered. Early September, 2012.H: Great! And now you're still here. What was it that got you to stay?U: Initially it was mcMMO, being family-friendly, and the freedom to explore and go solo. Then about month later I decided to actually use chat, and things were never the same.H: (Laughs) What is your favorite memory in V5?U: Favorite? Three things come to mind: making my first friends, getting asked to be a TA, and a distant third is DiggyPerro buying Dragon Eggs for 5k.H: "Money makes the world go 'round," hmm?U: I think it's "Diamonds makes the world go ...square."H: I ...see what you did there. Ahh, you've mentioned making your first friends in Noobstown. Care to tell us a little about them?U: Sure! Newbie Cleve was in the mining world asking for food for 10 minutes. And I was just finishing up wheat farming herbalizing, and making bread. So I decided to tp, and next thing I know we were fishing in a NewCaprica pond in the night with another friend, Kjc. This was after weeks of being a solo player so making my first friends changed everything. The rest of the story is here somewhere. I don't see them as often anymore though. And I've made lots of other friends as well.H: Tell us about your saddest or least favorite V5 moments.U: Anime leaving town to build his own. (Pause) Of which I was sad but proud... and built a "crying corner." Oh, another unpleasant thing is this one resident who disrespected and griefed even after the mods and town staff showed them respect. Hmph. And also, I know this is weird, but reaching mctop 10 was kinda sad for me.H: That's a prestigious spot to be in--to be the 10th best among tens of thousands of people. Why was it sad?U: Mostly it was like reaching the top of a tall mountain. You ask yourself, "Now that I'm here, what do I do next? What's the next goal?" The journey there was fun, though.H: You're getting quite serious there, ummfred.U: (Muffled laugh)H: Let's switch gears and move on to the next question. What are some of the funniest moments you had in V5?U: Acquiring AQW's Hitting Stick and hiding it from him. Starting a Noobstown meme thread. ("Read the signs!"). And just random stuff on global chat. Did you know one time Mojang got banned?H: Ha! I think I was on a holiday when that happened.U: Yepp, I took a screeny. And just other random things like mods kicking themselves or other mods. Ohh! Did you know that I lived in the mining world during my first few weeks on the server?H: How did that work out for you?U: Well, I built up my base, complete with big wheat and sugar farms, fishing and acrobatics area, and tunnel to the mines. This was all right underneath a jungle so griefers weren't a problem. But then that sign by the portal that I always just ignore... finally hit me. "Resets Oct 1st." That's when I went into panic mode.H: That's hilarious! What did you end up doing?U: I hesitantly decided to look for a town, and ended up joining Tortuga because of the pretty view of a plot that just screamed my name.H: And now you're one of the town's assistants. You've gotten a lot of achievements since then--you made your way up to the Top 10 leaderboards, built nice structures, even owned 4 embassies in 4 different towns at one point... Which one are you proudest of?U: Again I have three things in mind, and I think I'll mention the best one last. There's the mctop leaderboards, yes, and there's also my World Map thread, where I was happy to compile the town locations so everyone can know where's where. But I think I'm proudest about my pirate music.H: Your musical plot at Tortuga! The Pirates of the Caribbean theme, in full length. I've heard it's pretty epic.U: Yeah I guess; at least that's what I've been told. I can spot a few sour notes though, I guess from people accidentally right-clicking the note blocks.H: What was the best present you've ever given someone in Noobstown?U: Oooo, that's a toughie. Can it be intangible?H: Technically, our characters are just 1s and 0s in a computer so we, the items, the land... are all intangible. Buuuut sure.U: Fine. I'd have to say it's Wall's Minion Armor Set. I thought she'd appreciate some enchanted, renamed dyed armor to match her minion skin. Her reaction was priceless =) Enchanted diamond axes and "respect vouchers" probably come next on the list. But for the intangible, I wanna say whenever I successfully train or teach or help a resident become a "pro" in Noobstown. Somb, Anime, and Polar, just to name a few. For me that's like getting one of those golden little-people trophies.H: What was the best present you've ever received?U: A high-end, four-enchant bow from the master archer himself, Max. I went ahead and added UnbIII to it. Oh, and a chain chestplate from Anime right when it became available as a mob drop. H: Last question. What are you gonna do when V6 comes around?U: Helping rebuild Tortuga under the Cap'n's leadership and with the crew will be a main priority. Along with trying to grind mcMMO levels. I'd also like to continue making music, and re-give the presents I gave in V5.H: Okay, I lied. Here's my last question. What'll happen to AQW's Hitting Stick?U: I-I-- (Stammers) I'm not sure. Because of its mysterious powers, it can only be crafted by AQW himself, so I guess we'll just wait and see. It'll probably just bring itself to existence in V6 and end up in some unfortunate player's inventory.[Laughter] H: Well there you go folks, ummfredfelizco. We appreciate you joining us. We'll see you back here soon. All the best in V6!U: It's been a pleasure, Host!H: Coming up, you'll hear even more V5 stories. And why ramen noodles is the official dish of Noobstown. Stay tuned!

It's about time for this topic to get started.
Ahh, I'm wondering what nations in V6 would be like. It feels like the significance of a Nation sort of died down when /nc became disabled. Since then, the only way to get to know people from other nations is if one actually looked it up and did /nation or /nation list, paid attention to the towns in one's nation, and kept a pulse on who are in those towns. I have to admit, I tend to be quite partial when it comes to helping strangers; I only help out intentionally if they're out in the wild or are part of any town in my nation. If people ask for a town, I refer them to one of the nation's towns, if not my own. I miss the 4-character tags, the titles (ti.tles), and the random yellow-colored chat from Albatros (DF) trying to help someone from Nova. So from that background, I thought I'd bring it up, along with these questions.
1) Will we have /nc back?
2) Will we have some competitions among nations?

Today we had a Maze event, which featured Zephy's gigantic maze at Tortuga. The contestants awaiting the signal. The Countdown! And they're off! Dynamic Map view. *peeks from a corner* The winners won some diamonds. (I forgot how many exactly, too focused on paparazziing). Josh_Apple got out first, followed by OreoxMonstah, and I forgot who's 3rd.

Even though V6 seems to be right around the corner, we the Tortuga staff still keep on trying new ideas. It started as an underwater wildy tree farm with a watchful, weird-looking Steve. But the Haste II beacons attracted griefers. Imagine seeing a random beacon beam in the ocean while exploring. So here's our /town outpost 2. Before: After: Since outposts can't be reached by non-residents, please indulge me in this little photo-essay. We decided to take down Weirdlookingsteve... with plans for a Steve and Stevette on either side of the bridge. And right when we were blazing the trail, we found a natural abyss, which we turned into a feature. After quickly deliberating on the plot entrance design, we ended up with... ...and a cul-de-sac type. To ensure the safety of our oceans (and any redstone, sign, torch, or no-hitbox block on one's plot), we decided to impose a height limit rule. ...Yes, you'll have to carve out space for your underground house. But hey, keep the ores and stuff. Or if it turned out to be a cave, then less work for your house. Meanwhile, let's take a break under the nether lantern and behold the intersection. And finally, a minimap view and a tease for further expansion. We haven't come to a final decision if we should open embassies. Either way, contact a Tortuga staffer if you are interested.

Mhm. What Miner said. Tortuga is close to the southwest corner of the world map, so our nether portal might offer some good stuff. Also try Nova's at the northwestern corner of the map (It's at coolquote's plot, look for the Acro tower).

All of us were, to whatever extent, saddened/frustrated/disappointed upon the announcement of V6 two months ago. You can see the whole range of mixed reactions here (except for those who were just quiet and "meh" about it). Many PM's, 10-min timeout kicks, and forum threads were made. Some decided to quit the server, some were indifferent. And some pushed on and played with even more enthusiasm because of the V6 Token Program, which offers decent incentives. But why the reset, indeed? Why reset the map: This current 8000-by-8000 map has been around for over a year now, and we have ravaged, built on, and rebuilt on it and now some spots are wastelands, as MM mentioned. The V6 map will be three times larger, and have an anti-grief system. Why reset the money: A new buying/selling system will be introduced to make the economy more balanced and in-control. Towns will start off at a lower price. Why reset the skills: Since the skills are tied heavily to economy (double drops and such), it only makes sense. Veterans will have a one-month double XP period at the onset of V6. The items people have are also tied with economy, so they'll be reset for the same reason. People can use V6 Tokens to purchase items or Veteran rank (at a steep price). Be sure to read the two permalinks in this post, along with other related threads to stay informed. Late edit: The V6 anti-grief system allows the restoration of a griefed area without resetting the map, so this new map will be around for a long while. And then once the next map looks bad, we'll just reset again and again and again? I just think there has to be a better way to do this than everyone goes back to 0.

First, before starting, have this video/song playing in the background as you read on. TOPIC PURPOSE Moving on. I've decided to write this guide to share the success I have thus far with level grinding. I started only with one skill in mind (go Jakeys!), but ended up focusing on multiple skills. Also, it's been about two months since the V6 announcement, and maybe at least one more month until it comes out. I figured it's about time someone spilled. I report about things I've done, which might or might not work for everyone. The goal is for people to get ideas and incorporate it with their own. Whenever a skill is highlighted, there's a tip or two around ( this serves as the TL;DR disclaimer lol). A WORD ABOUT RESPECT It is tempting to take a break from grinding when you're one mcMMO level above someone whom you've just passed. You can then take and use your bragging rights, either verbally or silently. But please be reminded of good sportsmanship. I personally consider it courteous to stop one level behind the next guy (depending on who it is, I guess) and let it stay for a couple hours before continuing. Or leave a /mail. I admit being hypocritical about that though. But if I find out that all my hard work is beaten just by one level, it kinda stings, so "Golden Rule" applies here. Also respect other people's secrets. If they don't want you around their fishing spot or mob farm, or aren't keen on talking about their strategy, then don't insist/persist. CHOOSING A MAIN SKILL At the time of the Token Program announcement, Taming was largely ignored, with DiggyDog standing tall at 269 and the runners-up at around 100. While plenty of good grinding systems exist for the other skills, I thought of choosing one main skill that would be under the radar, while everyone else went for Herby or Fishing. So Taming it is. I keep a mental note on where the Wolf (Jakey) Spawners are in a few towns, so acquiring dogs weren't a problem. At the time, Squids and Bats were off, so my underwater mob/disc farm worked brilliantly. I filled up most of the caves/mineshafts around it to supposedly increase spawning rate. With the couple of 3x/6x weekends, I was on my way. I became determined to get and keep Taming #1. UNINTENTIONAL SECONDARY SKILLS Unlike Fishing, training the Jakeys (named after Jake the Dog lol) gave me an opportunity to work on other skills simultaneously. Since dogs don't chase Creepers, I picked up a bow and destroyed Creepers from afar, allowing me to get Archery #1 at one time. Taming XP is maximized if the dogs didn't get your help (meleeing mobs), so I took the blows on my armor and let the boys finish the mobs. Because of the undisclosed amount of diamond blocks I got from a Veteran drop party, I was able to up my Repair quickly as well. By not hitting the mobs, I get hit by them more often, increasing my *Dodge* opportunities. So on the side, I leveled up Acrobatics too, albeit slowly. (Another Acro tip: /sethome at the top of a home-made Acro tower). OTHER SKILLS Okay, I guess saying "I got my diamonds for free" is not a helpful tip. That's when I bring up Mining and Excavation, and even Fishing, all of which at high levels can give you more diamonds. Double drop from ores, diamonds from dirt (tip: clay mining may be faster for Excav), and Fishing 600. These three skills seem to be very straightforward when it comes to tips. Oh. Never fish in an indoor pond. And find a rainy fishing spot. MONEY FROM ENCHANTED ITEMS Whether you're in a mob farm, mining ore, or fishing, your enchant XP is bound to go up. This can be used in selling enchanted items, and the profit can be used to buy much needed materials. Beacons (and iron blocks), mob spawners and eggs, and/or diamonds are key items for grinding. (Beacons for farming "herbalizing" and fighting mobs, spawners for Jakeys if you can find Wolf Eggs, and diamonds for repair and armor). So. Renewable enchant XP plus diamond blocks equals what? Ta da! Fred's enchanted tool shop! For sale right now are assorted high-end Picks and Shovels (minus E5). Rare chains that you get from the mob farm might also be a good investment. I prefer to sell them non-enchanted but with full durability, to give the buyer a chance to add enchants on their own. This is where I reveal a Mining secret. Sure, sandstone and end stone are good. And netherrack too. Wield an E4 and it's like hot knife through butter. But no enchant XP. Thankfully, in the Nether there's quartz ore for XP. So if you're not lazy and feel like towering up to those ceiling ores, go for the quartz. They'll raise Mining skill fast too. Quartz veins also appear hidden underneath the netherrack btw. I used to think 33 was the best level to enchant, but as it turns out 30 is almost just as good. If you're at or above Repair 600, you'll be able remove/reset an inferior enchant via Salvaging (something that didn't occur to me until recently). IGNORED/LIMITED SKILLS "That's one less skill to worry about." When deciding which between my two lowest combat skills I should drop, I chose Swords. It's been stuck at 49 since the announcement. By kicking one skill off my list, (which has both good and bad effects), I can focus on my main/secondary skills better. There are two skills in which I decided to stop grinding right below a certain person's level (I consider as an upper limit). This way, once I reach that person's level, I can stop grinding that skill and focus on others. CONCLUSION A respected scientist once said... (Nah, I'm not ending this post that way) Bottom line though, no matter how many tips you get, it's hard work that gets you to the top. And again, these tips/methods are not for everyone. One may be used to the 2x2 Jungle Treefeller method for Woodcutting. I, however, prefer the lowly Burch Birch tree, with Haste II and Speed II beacons, and a plain Diamond Axe. So find your own way, stick at it, and improve. Always improve. All the best to you. --ummfred EDIT: Oooh! And coincidentally this is my 250th post lol
