Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Banning x-ray texture pack
« on: 14 Oct 2012, 11:57:04 »
I certainly hope that with 1.4, and the mod support that is being incorporated, allows something like this to be done. The idea is that 1.4 will allow servers to tell a client that a mod is required, and then allow the client to download the mod from the server.

The mod could be like a punkbuster mod, that detects the mods installed and prevents the client from connecting to the server if blacklisted mods are enabled. Something like that could also detect the enabled texture pack and disconnect the client if it finds a blacklisted texture pack enabled.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Villagers
« on: 13 Oct 2012, 11:00:53 »
I've thought about this idea more, and I would use Villagers on the server purely for a "currency" change. IE. Changing iron to gold, gold to diamonds, and diamonds to emeralds, and vise versa. Other items my corrupt the current market system.

Oakvale is a really nice town. Its very thought out. I admit, when Tortuga was started, no one expected it to expand as it has. Really great staff can do that for a town. Tortuga is a randomly laid out town, but still worth a tour if you want one. Give us about a month to finish up some things, first.

Ok, all these things are fine and dandy, but consider the following as UnlikelyPirate's tips to obtaining a wench:

1) Don't call them wenches
2) Be confident in what you know and can do. Confidence is so very important in any relationship in life, not just dating.
3) Be yourself. If you are slob, ignore I said that. Personality wise, don't try and be someone you are not.
4) In school, your world is significantly smaller. If you get rejected, it wasn't meant to be, but its good practice for life when it matters more. After school, you have a whole city/state/country/world to look for another in. Don't be afraid of being alone until after you move out of your parents house.
5) Did I meantion confidence? Ok, here are the words to remember: confidence, truth, courage, mystery, and interestingness. Also, add the word potato. Don't ask questions, just do it.

There is truth in these words! I'm a real lady's man myself.

Well, I would help but im always broke. Im always trying to refill my bank account and juggling that with running a large town too.

This sounds like an epic project. There is a "settlement" of abandoned structures near my town that are sooooo ugly and detrimental to the landscape that I would love to see the group start there. It was too much to look at so I actually used resources to build a wall around my town to avoid looking at it. That would be where I started if I help.

Sign me up as a junior member and get me an official membership ring. I will try and do this when I can!

IGN: UnlikelyPirate

Age: 29

How many hours per day: 3 hours to 23.5 hours

Why you want this role: As this server is growing very fast, I noticed that even when 1 or 2 moderators are online, they get overwhelmed. As moderators play the game too, being continuously busy doing moderator duties more often than playing can probably be quite a let down to logging in for some people. I personally enjoy seeing to it that operations operate smoothly. My town is at a slow point in its growth, so I have the time to assist by being a moderator if needed.

Past experience: Noobstown is my first multiplayer Minecraft experience. I currenty own Tortuga, and managing one of the top 10 towns by population is easy to me. Outside of Minecraft, I am pursuing a Business Management degree. I also have extensive logistical experience doing hobby programming and web development. Under another alias, I was heavily involved mod development for some games that were popular when the majority of people on this server were in diapers.

Time zone: Central Time Zone, Texas, USA. I might also point out that I never really sleep. Sometimes I play Minecraft for 2 or 3 days straight, pausing only to use the restroom or eat. Be it 3am or 3pm, you might find me on the server. This is the reason why I am constantly in the top 10 players by online time.

Additional information: I am technologically literate and extremely creative. I am currently working as a night owl. I have never been banned from the server. I despise xray modders. I am very good at remembering commands, rules, and other noteworthy items useful to being a moderator.

Suggestions & Ideas / Villagers
« on: 23 Sep 2012, 12:29:05 »
So, I got to thinking about emeralds and villagers, and that villagers won't spawn due to exploitation. Here is what I came up with:

Mojang had the right idea about villagers and trading, but I think their execution is poor. Emeralds are not the only thing villagers would be interested in. If I was a villager, I would want iron, gold, diamond, and emeralds.

If the villagers traded each of these items, it could trade for things of comparable value. It could be the same items, but maybe stacked more. Wheat, wool, bread, leather, and heck, even other items. An emerald could be worth 2 diamonds, for example. Vise versa. Still, keep it random, but this would solve the exploit problem.

Obviously, this would need to be made as a bukkit plug in. I don't know of one that exists right now. It doesn't sound like a complicated coding project, but if I made it, would you guys consider using it on the server? I think it would be neat to have villagers on the server to trade with.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Mcmmo xp raised?
« on: 23 Sep 2012, 12:21:31 »
I feel the same way, to an extent.

Mushrooms are really easy to farm, so I don't think they should be worth a whole lot. Sure, they take a little bit longer to grow/spread, but yea, they should be worth no more than like 10 ot 15 xp more than wheat.

Mining, however, irks my chain. I have 1025 excavation and I have less than 350 mining. I have done probably 2 times as much mining as I have excavation. Sure, I could go grind some obsidian, but it almost isn't worth it with the right pick. That xp rate should definitely be a tad higher.

Fishing could use some xp gain increase too. Same with woodcutting. Both of them make me cry to do.

I did the math to see about connecting Tortuga to Cloudsong once... You don't want to know how much gold and iron is needed. They are about literally across the whole world, too. In the end, it would bankrupt both towns 1/10th the way into it, and still, no one would use it.

« on: 18 Aug 2012, 15:36:05 »
The City of Tortuga is one of the finest cities on the Noobscraft server. It is a relaxing place that is about having quality townsfolk that strive to learn how best to play on the server. Tortuga is an open town. You do not need to ask to join Tortuga. To join Tortuga, simply type /town join Tortuga.

We want to make sure that everyone in town has fun, and that we can continue to grow unimpeded, so please follow our few rules:
Follow all the server rules.
Do not mine, dig, or build anything within 200 blocks outside the border of town. You may however build anywhere right outside the wall around Tortuga.
If you harvest anything, replant it how you found it.
Respect the Mayor, Town Assistants, and other residents.
We will ban you from town if you are found to violate these rules or continuously grief.

We have a wide range of amenities to help you in your quest to build, make money, and have fun! Take a ride on our town-wide subway system, or get lost in our massive tree farm. Come shop at the many shops scattered across town or in our open Market District. Whatever you choose to do, its up to you. We do not restrict what you can build in your plots, as there is no height limit or depth limit besides what the game imposes.

Tax and Plot Information:
All plots are free upfront.
There is no residence tax.
There is a plot tax of 5 noobz per plot per day.

Noobstown General / Re: What is YOUR noobstown story?
« on: 18 Aug 2012, 11:57:52 »
So, I started playing Minecraft with version .1.4. It was extremely addicting, but at that time I stuck entirely to single player due to no wanting to try out multiplayer. I had to take a break from Minecraft for a while, and when I came back after 1.0 was released, servers were easy to access. My friend was playing on a server and I tested the water with that place and I liked it, except I couldn't remember which server it was. I got on the Googlez and found Noobstown somewhere listed with a ton of other servers. It caught my attention that it was all about towns. In single player, I had a tendency to seek out villages and build them up, so I was definitely interested.

I registerd for Noobstown on April 24th, 2012. When I got on, I was a little confused, but tejedakids invited me to his town. I didn't know it then, but it was an unofficial town out in the wilderness. All was good until one day I was shopping for some string and tp'd to someone near some spiders. I got the string, they died, and I somehow picked up their stuff. I was already back at the unofficial town, and he tp'd to me in excitement to retrieve it. He also allowed some people to tp to him, and Myrf came to see all the ruckus too. A TA from Flintwood (can't remember who) said the town was too close to Flintwood and that they were going to claim it. At the time, there were about 8 people living there, and none of them were online but me. I felt threatened and allowed them to claim over the town as an outpost.

When tejedakids came on, he flipped out. No mods were on, but later it was resolved when Flintwood unclaimed the outpost. Tejedakids went off the deep end and griefed the whole little town. I fleed and took a few residents with me to Myrf's town, Empire. It was there that I joined my first real town and built a house that is still there to this day. I love Empire as its a great town. Its a good place to start out. I soon owned three plots and built some creative stuff there.

Not that long into living in Empire, I met iboabdalla, who was a little eccentric in his house buying. He was always moving from plot to plot. It wasn't long before he became a supporter and bought a town. I noticed when it happened and he needed help, so I temporarily joined Heavendawn as a TA to help him get it started. What turned into a temporary circumstance turned into a little longer circumstance as I was a TA for Heavendawn up until about 2 months ago.

The town grew fast and spread like wildfire. I was there for the beginning and iboabdalla trusted me to handle everything in town because I had a strong grasp of how to do so. In real life, I am pursuing a management degree, so managing a town on Noobstown is small fries. I was the main builder in Heavendawn, constructing most of the roads and managing many of the projects that came up. I have leveled so much land that I used to be the number 1 block placer on the server who had the longest online time. That really isn't the case now, but I am still within the top 10 on both of those stats.

I had a short hiatus of very brief moments of logging on when suddenly I received a message from iboabdalla that he had to quit Noobstown due to a very busy life schedule. He told me that he was giving me the town, and at that point, my temporary helping turning into town ownership. I feel bad that I didn't go back to Empire, especially when I could have been there to help when it got unclaimed once due to a money bug that when when taxes were due. I love the work that Mishai and EmperorMyrf have been doing there, and I visit often!

Recently, Heavendawn went through a name change to Tortuga. We are in the process of putting some finishing touches on a few visible projects before we endeavor on to more great projects. Tortuga has three great TAs, XXZEPHARXX, OrbitDzn, and TekStyle4x20, ordered by seniority. I want to mention that jscheesy6 was a recent TA but was perm banned for account sharing. It is something I wish could be forgiven as he was a great person in game. XXZEPHARXX is a lively person who is extremely helpful and creative. I can say that OrbitDzn is very lively too, and loves to build stylish buildings for the town. TekStyle4x20 is very mature, money-savvy, and an excellent all around TA. I don't think the town would be what it is now without all of these people.

What does the future have in stock for me? I plan on keeping my VIP status, and growing Tortuga until it can grow no further. We are currently expanding in 2 different directions and planning on our first outpost somewhere. Only time will tell what is in store for me and Tortuga. I know I missed stuff in this story, but it was getting long.

Lots of names are missing here. Just to go through the list, here are the names of influential people I enjoy playing with, or have enjoyed playing with, on the server:
EmperorMyrf
Mishai
XXZEPHARXX
OrbitDZN
TekStyle4x20

Waterworth
AQW_Assassian100

Why the name change, you might ask? Simple! Heavendawn was a great name, but it was too much to type in a hurry. Since I am a piratey fellow, I needed a piratey city.

I put a bunch of names to the vote, but it ended in a tie, so I chose between the winners. Tortuga won me over!

Why Tortuga? I understand many who play on this server will not know what Tortuga is, or where it is. Let me give you a few reference links!

Now I can't say our town of Tortuga looks anything like the photos in the first link, but whose town does?

I think the DB is MySQL, and the forums seem to be php based. It is entirely possible to anyone who knows the two. For example, I do.

Now, I am pretty certain ItsLawrence knows enough to either figure it out or do it. It wouldn't be much coding at all. Very minimal!

Suggestions & Ideas / Forum idea
« on: 10 Aug 2012, 09:08:03 »
The forum seems pretty in-tune with the server, probably due to its excellent admins and their ability to extract data from the Minecraft server SQL and use it on the forums. My idea would require a little of that as well.

When I click on someone and view their profile on the server, it would be nice if it told me what town and nation they are in. It would also be nice if it told me if they were a Mayor, Town Assistant, or if they have a special title in the Nation.

It doesn't serve a vital purpose, but it would be nice to have. :)
