SUMMER EVENTS
Scroll down for the event timetable...

EVERY WEEK!

Hi all,

As we stated a while ago, we will be hosting summer events. We will have a variety of events throughout the week and on the weekends.

The timetable below is for July and August -- The events will repeat in the same order every week at the same time unless of very serious circumstances, which is doubtful -- If this is the case, I will make a post on the site and, if possible, rearrange another event.

Events starting from Wednesday, the 8th of July!

Monday - Boat Racing -  10pm BST (What's that in my timezone?)

Wednesday - Mob Arena -  10pm BST (What's that in my timezone?)

Friday - Spleef - 9pm BST (What's that in my timezone?)

Saturday - Sandpit - 11pm BST (What's that in my timezone?)

Sunday (Once every 2 weeks) - Fishing tournament - 9PM BST (What's that in my timezone?)

*Random events will also be taking place, these will be things such as Snowball or Find the Sign. Watch out for these events to win prizes!

Chunk of the Month returns
DEADLINE: 1st August

Greetings,

This July we will be bringing back the Chunk of the Month competition; the aim of the Chunk of the Month is to create a chunk that reflects either the theme of the competition (if a theme is set) or if no theme is set a chosen design that you feel is worthy of winning the prize.

July theme: Summer
Your chunk should resemble something related to Summer, I'll let you do what you want with that.

The most creative, ingenious and aesthetically pleasing plots will win the competition and a prize.

  • To submit your chunk you must set it as your /visit and leave a reply on this post indicating that you would like to enter the competition.
  • You must submit before the 1st of August
  • Prizes will be given to the owner of the plot where the submission is located, not necessarily the builder
  • Avoid pixel art, you are less likely to win.

  • A custom chunk of the month player head trophy
  • 100k Nbz
  • 5 free chunks

MOB ARENA COMPETITION
RESULTS

Hi,

We've had some fabulous entries to the mob arena competition, all of which have been worked very hard on and I should like to thank those players who were very industrious and hard-working; it is much appreciated.

The first place choice was a very difficult decision, so much so that I've decided to have two winners.

Pidgeot72

MagicMan27

Both of these arenas were very well designed and refined; the first of which is a mini town style map -- perhaps a defend the keep style zombie invasion. The second is a hazardous lava jump map contrasted with a cool, slippy and icy part; equally as perilous.

SEASONS -- Fang_Eternity, Fatherbot, TweekTweeks.

But I must give commiserations to Fang_Eternity, TweekTweeks and Fatherbot who designed a very creative and unique mob arena, encompassing all of the main seasons. So too, this arena was made on the server -- making the task require much more hard-work -- I would like to thank the three of them personally for submitting their entry.

The above participants will be given prizes for their entries to the competition and the first place winners will have their mob arenas implemented in-game for all to enjoy.

Once again, I thank the other participants for their entries :)

Guides / Re: Noobscraft for Newcomers
« on: 4 May 2015, 18:15:12 »
Hi,

If you have any ideas or suggestions for the in-game tip system, feel free to add them below and I will look to incorporate them in-game.

Further, I would be more than happy to read through and edit (if necessary) any guides that players make and officially endorse them, providing the information is up to date and correct.

Due to confusion and people not seeing this post until quite recently, I've decided to extend the deadline to the 29th of May; people who have only recently heard of this competition now have time to enter.

If you wish to submit your entry please message me privately on the forum or make a reply on this post making it clear that you have a build entry.

Perhaps, it might be odd for you to read a reply from me, however, let me take you back about four years ago...

Two cousins, one named Waterworth (well, me :D) and one named Fatnoob (now Foob) wanted to play Minecraft together and decided to make a small two player server.

After hours of playing, we made our first diamond pickaxe and subsequently I lost that pickaxe in some lava (whoopsie!) and I suppose this was when we first conceived of a very rudimentary form of Noobstown; we knew (from a vast array of other games) that it was always much more fun to play with friends rather than be on your own. We thought it would be a good idea to open a server for other people to enjoy and meet new people: so we did!

What we saw was a very diluted form of the Noobstown that exists today: towns and players! That version has been built on ever since and the result of this is what we see today!

We've stuck with Noobstown because we love to run communities where players can have fun whether it be with their friends or to enable them to make new friends and have fun, we will stick with this server for as long as possible!

I hope you enjoyed my little spiel and for your informational needs: we never saw that pickaxe again.

We are having some issues with lag, I don't currently have a time available for the server to be back up but we're hoping to have it up in the next few hours, with a bit of luck.

That is, 2+ hours at least.

Does the arena have to be walled off?

It will have to be, yes, but we will probably place walls if you do not use them.

Mob Arena Competition

This competition is already in progress, this is just a reminder to all candidates that they have till the 8th May to complete their builds; judging will happen a week or so subsequent to the 8th of May and will be announced on the website

Competition closed: any more entries should be private messaged to Waterworth.

If you have completed your build, make a post on this topic and inform me that you have done!

We will be holding a competition for players to be able to create a mob arena map, the winner of the competition will have their build implemented as a mob arena (accessible by all) with their head placed in the map and credit given.

You can build these arenas in your wild plots or in town area (the former is the best option). You may also build your arena in a single player world as long as you provide a schematic that can be directly implemented into the server.

You may choose the theme and who you build the arena with; everyone who helps build will be rewarded (as long as it is in line with the rules below.)

Rules:
At least 5x5 chunks.
No more than 5 players being involved in the build (1 min, 5 max).
Do not create any intentional exploit spots: they will be removed.
Do not create super tall builds, for instance, anything higher than 100 blocks cannot be used.
Do not use any 1.8 blocks, we will not be able to add your schematic in-game if you do so.

Rewards:
500k Noobz - shared between all players on a team
A trophy (per person)
Each player will have their head placed in the mob arena

Tips:
Try to use a consistent theme -- we aren't looking for a specific theme, feel free to make your own.
Try not to use every block in-game and keep a design that looks sleek and nice

*You have one month to complete your build for this competition -- 8th May 2015

Hi,

The plans that we have for inactive towns are that our main priority is to find an internal alternative for the mayorship; in other words, we will first look to see if any assistants or co-mayors are suitable for the role of mayor. This will go through all of the major town staff ranks before we even consider any form of 'auctioning'.

We don't have plans to sell towns to other towns at a lower price, this would create monopolies and duopolies of towns whereby new towns have a very low chance of being successful. This issue was alluded to by Meep and he's quite right in saying that the big towns would very easily be able to purchase this land without leaving any scuffs on their wallets whereas smaller towns would find it more difficult and risk their own towns stability in doing so.

I hope this helps

is the arena allowed to use barrior blocks in 1.8 as a way to keep creeper charge air jumps in the arena.

Also, arena completion date?

Barrier blocks aren't compatible with our server version of Minecraft, so I would suggest not using them.

You have 1 month to complete the arena build.

For the player built arena, what would a circumference of 5x5 so that the arena can be a dome, similar to the current ma arena dome?

Also how do you enter a build in game or single player world, for the contest?

What is the chunk limit or block radius allowed for the ma arena area?

I haven't set a limit but it has to be at least 5 chunks; obviously it can't be too big but, if you set a maximum of 15-20 chunks, you should be fine.

Bear in mind that you might not have time to make a huge build as 1 month isn't a long time, relatively :P

Server Announcements / Valhalla and Elysium
« on: 5 Apr 2015, 03:07:47 »
Hello all,

(If you are a member of the town Valhalla or Elysium
and do not have your items/blocks please contact Waterworth or a staff member to claim them.)

I apologise for this serious post at a time that is meant to be fun, and I promise, it will be fun! However, I must address an important issue.

An incident that happened today, 4th April, resulted in the deletion of two towns: Elysium and Valhalla.

As a direct consequence of this deletion, player (town) plots have been unclaimed. Although, I can assure you, that the items and blocks in these plots are safe and I will be working diligently over the next couple of days/weeks to ensure that all items are returned to players.

We should not allot any blame to players who were in any way involved in the sequence of events that happened earlier today.

I will be returning items to wild plots and if players do not have wild plots, I will be contacting them directly, please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you have any concerns.

Whilst returning items, I can also work on a first come first serve basis; in other words, if you contact me directly, I can fast track returning your items to you so that your game experience is not delayed or ruined in any way -- to do this just message me on the site or send me a mail ingame.

On a last note, please take into account that we can check who items belong to, so it is not wise to waste my time claiming that items are yours when they are not.

My apologies and thank you

-WW

Noobstown General / Re: HAve I done something...
« on: 25 Mar 2015, 21:39:39 »
Hi there,

I'm awfully sorry to hear this, however, I'm sure that it is nothing to do with your age, but some players don't feel like talking to others (which is fine) and are often busy playing the game themselves.
I can tell you, I sometimes miss players messages when I'm busy, but I'm only human! And I'm 100% sure that we can extend this to all other players :D

One of the most fundamental aspects of our server is that it is 'family-friendly', I'm sure you've heard this phrase mentioned before. What we mean by this is that Noobstown is suitable for people of all ages of 'the family', that is to say, children, teenagers, adults &c.

I'm positive that a lot of people would agree with me when I say that your age does not matter and we want you to have an enjoyable game experience at Noobstown regardless of your age or any other characteristic like this. I think that this is one of those issues where people might have been busy, I very much doubt that they would dislike you/ignore you simply because of your age, and even so, those people would not be welcome here.

Once again, I am profoundly sorry that you have suffered this experience and I can assure you (knowing people of multifarious ages on the server) that we do not judge based on your age. So too, if you see myself or other staff online, feel free to speak to us, we are always happy to speak but you must excuse late replies as we are usually quite busy! :)

At the end of the day, people can choose who they want to speak to or whether they want to speak at all and I'm sure that you'd agree that this is extremely fair; we all have those moments where we just want a little quiet time.

« on: 23 Mar 2015, 02:39:52 »
It obviously depends on what texture packs you like, my favourite texture pack is Sphax PureBD Craft, it gives the game an even more cartoony look :)

But then again, if you like mediaeval styled textures, try something like John Smith's.

« on: 22 Mar 2015, 12:30:45 »
I would advise you to refund any money you receive from this Auction, as Twisted has said, relatively few people will have seen your message and I can safely assume that a player might get quite annoyed if they lose a big chunk of their money for something they didn't fully consent to purchase.

Many thanks
