from my experience, you cant really fully test anything without public access. Hence why betas exist and even so, games are still buggy.
Even Minecraft is still working on and removing bugs and glitches, nothing will ever be perfect. The lack of communication though is what gets me upset, its been over a week since the plugins were announced being tested.
As far as the saying "good things come to those who wait" I point you to Duke Nukem Forever.
They also have a twitter page that they update a little more than the site, I'd say give that a try or following them personally on twitter.
