V6 probably won't come out until Minecraft 1.7 is released, so they can use the new biomes like the mesa, savanna, birch forest etc. to generate the world.  This means they would have to take the time to port the server and its plugins to 1.7.

Waiting for 1.7 would be the safest way, but since there is no ETA on 1.7 (as always with Mojang) it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you start to wait for the next big one, there will be another big one a month later. And then another, etc... you'd be waiting forever.

The main problem is with plugins, since even if 1.7 were to come out today the plugins could take another 2 weeks to be updated.
With previous versions Bukkit had this problem for months (that's also one the reasons I went inactive).

Anyway, there will be customized things in V6 (biome-like stuff) even without 1.7 (that was stated in the trailer) and 1.6.4 fixed existing structures corruption cause by the new world gen when using an older world so... 1.6.4 is the actual best bet at the moment.

I don't know where you got this from, but thats certainly not true.
The switch from 1.6.4 to 1.7 should go should be smooth if Mojang did their job right with the conversion system.
Other then that, imagine IF we would wait for 1.7, that would take weeks and weeks, not only because of 1.7 itself but as Darkwings said, all plugins have to be updated, this can take from a week, to maybe 2 weeks.
So theres just no reason to NOT start V6 on 1.6.4 right?

I still have to work, but I don't know when I'm getting a paycheck. I had to borrow money to pay my rent.

I still have a little over a weeks work of pay coming since we have two weeks lag (work to payday).  You should too I would expect.  I thought you worked for the Coast Guard, no?

I do, and my payday is the first of the month. Well it's the third and still not a dime, and not a word about when it's actually coming either. They didn't even tell us we definitely wouldn't be getting paid, they just told us we might not be and that wishy-washy statement was a few days before it happened.

well even if it doesn't start on 1.7 wasn't it going to have its own unique custom generated biomes anyway ? that's what I got from the video at least I might be wrong though

I was furloughed once before around 1995.  Actually two times that year I think.  The longest was nearly 3 weeks.  The nice part (not for the taxpayers) was that they gave us back pay for that time.  It was like a paid vacation.  I have an emergency fund, so I don't really care if they pay me or not.  I'd rather they do some serious spending cuts and kill Obamacare, but that's just my opinion.  If it takes a partial shutdown of non-essentials to get moving in that direction, so be it.  The last thing we need is to become just another third world socialist/marxist hell hole.

When the shutdown happened, I was wondering about whether or not you were still working.. I know they kept a skeleton crew, but I wasn't sure if you were on it

I'm "non-essential".  Very few at NASA are essential.

I don't remember saying that without condition, but I may have.  Condition being wilderness land.  I don't know how wilderness land will be purchased, or how much it will be.  All I know is that I need about 50 chunks.  If I can't get that small amount of land, then I'll have to decide what to do next.  As of right now, I'm planning on giving it a go, but that may change.

Besides, I have lots of points that have been locked out since April.  I'd like to use at least some of them or give them away.

800 blocks of land isn't much when you're working on a big project.

Exactly what they said, 800 isn't much, considering I'm going to need to need about 400 wilderness plots for my own project, which is about 100.000 blocks of land.

Yep.  The only thing I have heard about land is that we will get 11 chunks.  I won't bother building anything with such a small amount.  The plot I need for my project is about 120 by 120, which isn't much.  Here's some pictures of what I'll be building if I can get the chunks I need (~50).

The basement and sub-basement:

Not a huge project compared to the size and complexity of what other more skilled people will want to build.

What the hell do you guys need that many land for?
Unless you are gonna rebuild the V6 spawn, I can't really imagine what else you would wanna build thats giving you a use. Also by the time you even have the materials to start building, you will probably have enough land to make your project, because if these projects are as huge as your guys say, then you'll need alot of materials right...?
Also a very  very big note... Make sure to plan your projects well, and ofcourse make sure you can keep your motivation going, because a small finished and amazing looking project is better then 1 huge ugly unfinished project.

Err no. 50 chunks is not 800, it's 800 squared = 640thousands blocks (not counting vertical space)

I doubt you actually need 400 chunks either:
400x16 = 6400. That's a 40960000 surface.   Almost 41 Millions blocks. Not 100k.

If you count vertical space multiply by the sky limit >_>

Anyway there is no static limit. Most probably they will enforce a limit later on to avoid a ghost-town sprawl.
I hope the wilderness won't become just a dump for ginormous statues.

Er no.  Each chunk is only 16x16 or 256 blocks.  120x120 is 14400 blocks (not 640thousands).  Divide 14400 by 256 and you get approx 56 chunks.  I said ~50 which would suffice.

I hope that comment wasn't to me, cause I don't appriciate your tone.  50 chunks is NOT a huge amount of land.  Did you see my photos?  I don't like you telling me how to plan my work either.

Honestly thats pretty rude, i'm just giving advice and my opinion.
Yes I have seen pictures of your house, have you ever seen v6 spawn in the total?
Please stop complaining about the ground you get, you start with 10000 freaking times more land then you did in v5, just play do your thing and earn more land simple as that.

Re: Quick Update
What?  We start with 10000 times more land than you did in v5?  Where do you get that?  Wilderness land was free and there was no limit on how big you could build.

Stop talking down to me, I don't appreciate it one bit.  I have just as much right to express my opinion as anyone else.
