Spawner Issues need Mod/Admin help
« on: 23 Jan 2013, 17:17:28 »
Going to try and post this here instead.

Both of my skele spawners have quit working.
Nothing was changed for a year almost.

The mobs are spawned....go up the water elevator and then simply despawn at the top and never fall down to be farmed.

Any ideas as to what has changed on the server or how I can get them going again?

Thanks!

Mob spawners work within a 16 block radius as we all know. Therefor if your fall trap is 16 blocks away from you they will despawn, if the mobs are within the 16 block radius of "you" at all times then im lost.

I've had this happen with my skelly grinder too, and it seems like it also happens with natural mobs. Here is my hypothesis. Mobs spawn (either spawner or natural). If they get within a certain radius of you, and then exit that certain radius, they de-spawn. It seems that this radius is less than 20 blocks (after observing one-hit-kill grinders that use fall damage).

Much thanks for the responses guys... I do appreciate it.

My point however is this.. those 2 spawners grinders have worked flawlessly for almost a year with never a single glitch.  I changed nothing on my end but they suddenly just stopped working.  That is why I think there is a glitch or something changed int he server configs maybe or something??

My experience is similar.   Shortly after the latest minecraft update, my zombie grinder didn't work like before.  I had a 20+ block elevator where they would rise and then drop to the kill zone.  When the zombies approached the top they would all disappear.  When i went to the top to inspect what was going on, they stopped disappearing and the grinder worked as before.  I think something may have changed in the latest minecraft update that affected the distance you could be from spawned mobs.  At any rate, i "fixed" my grinder by shortening the height of the elevator.  I believe the 16 to 20 block distance others have mentioned holds merit.  Although it's not as fun as before and the zombies take more hits before dying, there is a work around.

That's my two cents!
