The City of Tortuga is one of the finest cities on the Noobscraft server. It is a relaxing place that is about having quality townsfolk that strive to learn how best to play on the server. Tortuga is an open town. You do not need to ask to join Tortuga. To join Tortuga, simply type /town join Tortuga.

We want to make sure that everyone in town has fun, and that we can continue to grow unimpeded, so please follow our few rules:
Follow all the server rules.
Do not mine, dig, or build anything within 200 blocks outside the border of town. You may however build anywhere right outside the wall around Tortuga.
If you harvest anything, replant it how you found it.
Respect the Mayor, Town Assistants, and other residents.
We will ban you from town if you are found to violate these rules or continuously grief.

We have a wide range of amenities to help you in your quest to build, make money, and have fun! Take a ride on our town-wide subway system, or get lost in our massive tree farm. Come shop at the many shops scattered across town or in our open Market District. Whatever you choose to do, its up to you. We do not restrict what you can build in your plots, as there is no height limit or depth limit besides what the game imposes.

Tax and Plot Information:
All plots are free upfront.
There is no residence tax.
There is a plot tax of 5 noobz per plot per day.
"Flipping" plots, aka buying and reselling plots, is at the discretion of the Tortuga Staff. Please ask before doing so.

Tortuga Large Farm Experiment

Key Information on Large Farm:
 - 2x2 plot
 - 2 floors each of sugarcane, wheat
 - 1 floor of every other kind of non-tree plantable items: melon, pumpkin, cactus, both types of large shrooms, netherwart, cocoa beans

Being a researcher irl, I decided to do a little experiment on just how much one could get from our town farm.

Steps:
 - emptied inventory, got iron hoe, started on wheat
 - sadly, was only able to finish 2/3 of one wheat floor (due to lag)
 - used GT 4 times
 - herb lv 116 (leveled up twice in the process)

Results:
 - over 12 stacks of wheat (789 wheat)
 - almost 6 stacks of seeds (371 seeds)

Interpretation:
 - going by this rate, one could get around 4,700 noobs from selling the wheat alone.



EDIT (24 Sep 12)
Did another experiment, this time on sugarcane:
Results:
 - 1 floor of sugarcane crops yielded 1131 sugarcanes (not all were fully grown)
 - At the current rate, this gave me 1,131 noobs
 - Raised my Herb by a couple of levels again (~128)

Interpretation:
 - Give-or-take 2.2k noobs just from sugarcane harvesting.

Also did another trial on wheat. I was able to harvest an entire floor, using GT about 6 times.
Results:
 - Too many wheat, that sold for around 2.4k noobs.

Underwater Outpost and Plots (Re: Tortuga [OFFICIAL])

Even though V6 seems to be right around the corner, we the Tortuga staff still keep on trying new ideas. It started as an underwater wildy tree farm with a watchful, weird-looking Steve. But the Haste II beacons attracted griefers. Imagine seeing a random beacon beam in the ocean while exploring.
So here's our /town outpost 2.

Since outposts can't be reached by non-residents, please indulge me in this little photo-essay.
We decided to take down Weirdlookingsteve...

with plans for a Steve and Stevette on either side of the bridge.
And right when we were blazing the trail, we found a natural abyss, which we turned into a feature.

After quickly deliberating on the plot entrance design, we ended up with...

...and a cul-de-sac type.

To ensure the safety of our oceans (and any redstone, sign, torch, or no-hitbox block on one's plot), we decided to impose a height limit rule.

...Yes, you'll have to carve out space for your underground house. But hey, keep the ores and stuff. Or if it turned out to be a cave, then less work for your house. Meanwhile, let's take a break under the nether lantern and behold the intersection.

And finally, a minimap view and a tease for further expansion.

We haven't come to a final decision if we should open embassies. Either way, contact a Tortuga staffer if you are interested.

la tortuga. :D You should meet our town assistants sombrerodude and ProtocolAlpha, I think they hablan Español. Plots are free, taxes are cheap (around 10 nbz every 24 hrs), and make sure to read the rules at the /town spawn. The shop right next to our spawn offers a wide variety of cheap goods, thanks to Tek. Welcome aboard!
