V6 Minecraft School.
« on: 21 Nov 2013, 07:10:15 »
Have you ever wanted to learn how to use redstone? How about how to make your builds look better? Or do you just want to learn how Minecraft works and what it's really like behind the pixels? Well then my V6 Minecraft School is for you! On a certain day not yet decided I will have classes to teach everyone who wants to learn more about Minecraft Vanilla or even how to use some of the plugins on the server. Most classes will be free (like plugin classes, or what Minecraft is like on the inside) But some classes will cost a some Noobz due to the fact I will have to pay for materials or there really hard to teach/time consuming. So if you want to learn about Minecraft a bit more, come on down!

Hey, this sounds cool, could you open it in Utopia? I'll give you a plot for it right near the town spawn at only 500 Noobz (cheap, considering that near the town spawn, the plots will cost anywhere from 2500 Nbz to 10000 Nbz). You'll get a lot of players to see your school there. I'll also put no tax for you. Also, I would like to be able to teach some classes about redstone if you'll let me.

I would actually love this, in fact, I would recommend this to be done in many major towns so that a lot of people can participate all at once.

This is an excellent idea! I'd love to see it!

I would like to suggest some of the payed classes have a "Test" of some sort and if you pass you get certified in whatever it was. Even if some of the things were a bit silly it would be fun to earn certifications in different areas from the Edix school ;).   Like heyyyyy guys look at my new certification in basic red stone lighting =^.^=    Edix school alumni partyyyyyy.   @hangs up certs in frames around his haunted shrine@.   XD

I like that. If someone in a town wanted to move up to town staff, they could be required to go get a certification. Especially useful if the mayor doesn't know the person that well but needs staff. Either way, can't wait to see edix build a wicked sweet schoolhouse.

Might I teach advanced farming techniques? If at all possible? I know you probably have no clue who I am, but I have built massive and efficient farms in old Forthwind, new Forthwind, Townsville, and a second, short lived one in old Townsville again. They were aesthetically pleasing (enough) as well and I have refined my techniques so far. I have done underwater dome farming, above ground dome farming, layer farming, multiple types of crops, and all of this designed for optimal yield, ease of harvesting, and architectural beauty. Gardens are also something I am good at. Basically, if it grows in the ground I can and have mastered it.

Yeah, just asking. Also, as for aesthetics, this also applies if your favorite type of farm is one you can't see.

tl;dr i am quite good at farming. i can has teach class?

I like the idea, really wonna see how it works out. Most materials are reusable so not quite sure if saying you have to pay for that will work too well. Is a great idea as I said you'll just have to work on it a bit. Maybe more like a private school? Pay to keep going.

It would be cool to set up in major towns, and I would need some more teachers, so if you would like to message me on the site with what you could teach and we can discuss it.

Ehhh. I remember when INEEDANAME1564 or something like that made one.. It was good and a great idea in theory, but never worked out due to scheduling. It was such a pain to get class times set up. :/

I'll be the annoying guy and ask: how will this be any different from looking up a tutorial and follow with a step by step test build? It's not like there's nothing like that already offered (at almost professional level) out there.

Anyone interested enough in improving at the game can easily find such resources.
Wikis, blueprints, tutorials, game theory/mechanics, etc... all faster ways to accomplish that compared to gathering people online and dealing with schedules.

Let alone that if I went and said "I will teach you how to do stuff because I'm good with it" without giving examples I'm pretty sure I'd sound like a presumptuous [insert bad person label here], and for good reasons.

I see your point, but there one thing that making learning online with someone on server better then just go and watch some tutorials on youtube.

The key to success is some good practice, and if you having someone who can watch what you doing and say if it looking nice/what details you need to add/how scaling goes and etc.
Then you will actually learn faster because someone will help you with the practice, and to understand how things goes.

Also i can agree that seeing basic tutorials on youtube will have same effect as seeing someone doing it near you on a server, but when it come to practice then the "school" idea will actually help.

Moving on, giving examples of your own builds it is really important, and if the school idea will actually start, then there will be needed some kind of application, with images of your works/projects.

Maybe they're not so popular as I thought they were, but there are far more than "basic" tutorials for both technical and artisitc builds.

There are entire channels dedicated to things like improving the viability inside a village, minimizing the footprint of a redstone circuit, creative use of blocks and item frames, balancing builds for pvp and much more.

I'd list some names but I think it could be advertising... it's not that hard to find them on YT, really.

Of course having someone supervising what you do can help but that actually takes more time on the long run due to different people having different schedules (and different time zones).

To make an example:

I have some building and automations already prepared for Dracomere. They use specific game mechanics to achieve fine tuned randomizers, counters, player detection, and other non-obvious features.
I had to take "standard" stuff and convert it to avoid using pistons (since they'll still be delayed in V6).

It would take ~20 minutes alone just to show a build and probably another hour just to explain exactly how it works to someone that knows nothing about those game mechanics, probability, logic gates, etc.

Or, I could link a wiki page with the needed info.

People actually interested in learning would take probably 10-15 minutes to read something that is already at their disposal and come back with a test build of their own, asking just specific questions instead of "how do I do it".

To me, seems like this is something that isn't really possible on a server without investing a lot of time and giving a proper schedule (aka: a real job).

I love the idea, it will be cool to make a town specially for the school. Having a cafeteria, patio, sport areas, school facilities, xD idk make it a real school in noobstown.

I'm agreeing with Darkwings 100% here. My point is what he is saying. I'm still most likely going to build a school or University somewhere, but it most likely won't actually teach classes. There will probably just be signs/books explaining what you would learn in that class, and how to contact me to get lessons. ;)

Yes, I can teach these classes.
