Selling logs is really a great way to go. Here's one supplementary idea--  collect merchandise of all sorts, allowing you to have a diverse range of products. Then, when somebody in chat needs it desperately, engage in a transaction, agree at a reasonable price, and boom

Also, selling enchanted items are a good way to make money. Especially if you have a good enchant xp grinding method.

It's also important to keep track of what the current prices are for most items. Even the uncommon ones like leather and cacti (dyes might be in demand due to the update, as well as spider eyes). That way, when you sell something, you're well-informed of what the price should be.

Yes. You don't have to change it into a shop plot or buy a shop plot. You can set up chest shops in your own plot. Here is Foob's guide on what to put on the signs for your shop.

if you level up your wood cutting skill, would you be able to use tree feller on giant jungle trees?

Mycelium is a great way to make money. It can sell for high prices and is hard to get. I sell a stack at 2.5k. A stack of glass is also my specialty. I also love to sell sandstone, it is 500 for a stack of regular, 750 for smooth, and 1k for chiseled. The lava buckets, Mrfloris, is something I would never have thought of. So thank you for the tip. how do you mine mycelium?  wouldn't it revert back to dirt?  Anyway, here's great way I use to make money.  Make a lot of shovels.  Dig dirt to level up your excavation stat.  Sell dirt.  Make glowstone using the glowstone dust you dug up from dirt.  Sell glowstone.  Once you get high your level high enough, you can find diamonds.  You can save them or turn them into diamond pickaxes.  Enchant the diamond pickaxes and sell them. 

I smelt all the cobblestone that I mine from mining world, then smelt it at home for 1 noob each.

1.4.2 you could /sell all iron too, so I took advantage of that,but now the /sell all command doesn't accept
iron any more. It made me a ton of money,that's kind of how I got 100k now.
