Automatic chanel changing
« on: 9 Feb 2014, 06:35:15 »
When I go to the wilderness from spawn, or mining, it automatically changes my channel for me from Global to Wilderness, and so forth. It is more of a hindrance than a convenience, and I'm just curious on other peoples opinions on it, as I don't think it's that great and the server would be better without it.

Yeah I agree with this. Often times I go the mining world, want to respond in global and find out it went to the mining world. As you said, more of a hindrance than a convenience.

Good topic!

I vouch for the removal of the automatic channel changing.

It generally doesn't bother me. There is the quick msg commands (/t - town world /m - mining world /g - global
/w - wilderness) If I remember correctly this was the same as it was in V5, when you entered the mining world for example it would change you into the mining world chat and so forth.

This is done to keep players in the appropriate world channels, or else there will be serious chat congestion in the global channel when everyone is speaking to each other, some players forget to turn it off and we have a situation where people are all talking to each other in global even if they are right next to one another in game.

Like AQW said you can always use the quick messages /g (message) /l (message) etc.

The only thing I find to be annoying, is the switch between wilderniss chat and town chat.

I understand why it's like that, but I'd like a commnad to set one channel as the default one.

The most annoying thing is when I'm going back and forth from mining trips and my channel keeps switching and the people I'm talking to (or will be talking to) are not physically close to me.

As Fatnoob said, if we implemented something like that then main channel you set to use would become overcrowded with people who are always sticking into that channel, this way you are normally talking to those in the world you are in until you specifically select not to.

I'm already using general as the default channel cause I find the automatic swtch annoying so the result is the same.

The only thing that would change is that I don't have to manually switch each time I log and each time I teleport... it's not like it's impossible to do in other ways.

The attempted segregation doesn't really do much to hinder global congestion, mostly it just makes people double post what they said after they realize they said it in the wrong channel.

I'm all for it being optional, but having my chat switched around each time I drop back home to drop off my bounty from the last trip to the mining world...it's quite annoying.

I've decided to keep my stance as being against it, as I must agree with Reigando said, as many people do double post, causing more congestion that it's supposed to stop.

It honestly does seem to cause it more, than stop, and it's actually more, I wouldn't say annoying, but more... chunky, if you will, in terms of the wall of text I see when multiple people double post, due to being in the auto-changed channel, then switching to the main channel.

Another problem is that a lot of people just talk in /town now that there are some active towns and it generates a lot of spam in that world.

No one needs to read 20 lines long discussions from other towns people that won't ever use /local or /msg for some reasons.

Same goes for a lot of guests and new members that don't know how to use the channels.

Seems to me it creates more problems than it tries to solve (keyword: tries).
