I have an idea that needs to go on the voting page.  I think moderators and chat moderators should be held to a weekly hourly play minimum.  It's not fair to get all the sweet perks if you're gonna pop in for 5-10 minutes every 3 months, or just and hour at a time every few months.  I mean, I play 1000x more than half of the current mods.  No offense or insult intended, but rewards without work is incredibly unbalanced.

I propose a 10 hour/week minimum, which is around an hour and a half a day average. It'll boost server numbers and morale to see more mods on.  That or go back to one of us regular guys.

Obviously there are exceptions and people need time off, but a job is a job and you need to do it to get paid, amirite?

I actually agree with this.  There are lots of times when there are no mods on anymore.  Which is fine for seasoned players and doesn't bother me in the least XD (love u guys, really).  But the new players often need help, and it will likely be difficult with a new system as well.

I wouldn't know enough to agree with or amend any proposed limits, but it does seem like there are really only a few active mods now.

I did think it would be nice to reward past mods with some extra perks, just for a thank you for service and to encourage them to come back and have more experienced players as well.

Or even if you didn't want to remove mod status from the current mods (because an hour every three months is still time in service) but to add some lower level mods (whatever you would call them) to boost moderator presence.

Thanks for bringing it up, Xy, it's a hard topic to start.

I agree as well. With what Whimsy said as well, the idea of a thank you-reward for helping the community (generally being a Moderator/Chatmod) instead of keeping their rank until they either get kicked or step down. If Moderators aren't coming online to help, they're not doing their job. They were selected to help, not to be inactive and come online 3 months to not lose land!

I feel like flying is a PRETTY SWEET reward itself, lol.

I too do agree with this with what everyone has said here.

Having just come back from a break myself, I understand the urgency of breaks, and sometimes they are out of people's control.  Real life does always come first by all means.

If a moderator needs to have time off for that, so be it - its like a vacation or leave from a job really. Short breaks or time away, they come back & are active, then yea it's business as usual.

But honestly, I have been here a year now, and there are some mods that I have never seen play nor have I ever talked to.  Granted I play mostly late at night, but on weekends & holidays I have been on throughout the day - i have done /seen or /player with their names for my own curiosity & well nope, they aren't active players - other then popping on & quickly leaving again :(

Maybe even if they were to go back to chat mods or something similar? Then have them earn their way back up to moderator status again if they become active players again.

And too, what whimsy says is true, sometimes we need more mods on - I have even seen the ones on become overwhelmed with stuff all at once.  it was for brief moments and was all taken care of sure, no one is failing so don't get me wrong, but I do think sometimes they could use some extra help as well.  Many of us regular players try our best to help out too.

I agree with what xy and the others are saying many times i need help with getting rid of chests, signs, etc and there aren't mods on. i get certain times none will be on but to have them on during the most active times would be nice. There are many mods that i never see on as well. I agree with players/staff having breaks and vacation times like chitter says but some staff seem to be always on a break or vacation. I love this server and always want it to be the best it can be ^_^

Adding to my last comment about it;
If staff members can't be on the server because of other reasons than that they simply don't want to, tell the other staff members, so that if anyone asks "What happened to X?", then Y, another staff member can answer, for example "Oh, they're on a vacation".

I barely play anymore, because it's still on 1.8, while the world has moved on to 1.10 already.
Not only that, the server is 'empty', I mean.. it's just the regulars vips and a few new members that I never see again.
It's just motivating me.. I can imagine it's the same for Moderators. There's not much to do when you're in-game for hours and there's just a few things to help out with. Sorry to sound negative. But when there's less than a dozen of players active, of which the majority are regulars. There's just no real need for 5+ staff to be online 24/7.

There's a ticket system. I rather see the staff that comes online to follow up on tickets than be on 24/7 and 'afk'.

I was hoping 1.8 would bring in more players. I was hoping the winter would bring in more players. I was hoping xp weekends would bring in more players. I was hoping the summer would bring in more players. I was hoping the new stuff would bring in new players. I was hoping that some staff gone and some bug fixes would bring in more 'regulars' and new players. I was hoping the mineapoc merge would bring in more activity. I was hoping a move to a working towny thing and the mineapoc features would bring in more players and activity.

But it's been 1,5 years. And I for one dont' need another 'head' item from a quest.

We were hoping last year to throw open our town so players could just get to plots and manage it all themselves, have a farm open for them to get their mcmmo and items up. And due to 1.7->1.8 and mcmmo bugs, not to mention griefing and permission issues and even worse -> towny issues.. We had to abandon the idea of opening our town to guests, members, etc. And we couldn't 'hire' people to make builds for us because we can't reset plots. We also couldn't open up the farm obviously.

Yeah, there's a new noobstowny thing now. But we're on 1.8, not 1.10, and there's just no activity. My friends all left the server, my staff lost interest in helping in the town. The great in-game friends all moved to their own town (which got sold to other mayors now or simply died due to inactivity) .. etc.

And with the new system, it's quite expensive to just expand land. I rather donate for town plots and get a few players. Than constantly pay more for a few plots to players who then leave a week later or never return.

From the 91% of the residents we lost 50%, and the other 50% hasn't been on for over 9 months.

NT is kinda dead - for me - gameplay wise.

I can imagine there's no motivation for moderators (besides perks and status) to play anymore.

It is not meant to trash talk, by any means. it's my experience, unfortunately.

And those who are friends and online, I can't play with them.. They are in their nation, their town, their wilds. And unless they grant me build/destroy permissions, .. i can't work together because I am already setup for my own wild and town. So it's quite lonely.

If it is unfair for mods to just login and enjoy the perks? I dunno.. if they aren't online, they aren't using or enjoyign those perks either really.

If a staff is gone for 6+ months, maybe it's time to step down and make space for regulars. Unfortn. most mods are active, until they get mod. And after 3 months they disappear. We've seen it with quite a few in the past. On any server.

Anyway.. I love the mods they have now. And I like the regulars. I just wish I had a reason to play that isn't waiting for the next restriction to be lifted or version to be released. (ANd yes, you can link to version 1.10 thread from the frontpage, but it does include that 1.9 is completely skipped, so that argument is moot)

happy summer! i hope to play some NT hours soon. i hope they wont be my last. I go where the action is. MySpace is still alive, but everybpdy's on facebook.
