Noobscraft - FTB (Feed The Beast) ??
« on: 22 Mar 2014, 18:17:16 »
Not sure if this has already been suggested before, but Vanilla Minecraft for me and probably a lot of other people are getting boring, soon it's a new FTB Pack coming out currently named "TPPI", it's supposed to be the biggest one yet, having all the major mods in it, so just a ridiculous amount of stuff to do.

I know setting up a modpack server isn't easy, and I doubt it will even happen, but it's just a suggest, that is what this part of the forum is for.

Well that is exactly the poll i wanted to make a while ago, and somehow i mange to forget it.
Anyway, this is a great idea,
but even if fatnoob decide to create another server, it may take a while, as he will need to get new map/spawn, plugins, and maybe even more staff.

Yeah that is a main problem, but I am sure starting a new server will bring a huge amount of new players as well, people from the Apoc Server came to Noobscraft and the other way around, so the same thing would most likely happen if they were to start a FTB server.

When it comes to staff, a lot of people on the server are experienced with FTB, including myself, so that shouldn't really be a problem :p

I think with Foob is that he likes his servers to be available to play for anyone. Not everybody can play with mods on their computer. I believe you need 6gb of RAM at least, allowing you to allocate four of them to FTB, that's also with minimal settings, you'd need a more than decent computer to get anything above 35fps at normal settings methinks. I personally haven't played FTB, but it's just what I've read or heard, sorry if it's wrong :).

I would love to see some mods. Not sure all the FTB mods are needed. That is quite a lot of content.

also, not sure i would like to see FTB on both the town and wild sides. limit it to one or the other. Or maybe a new world?

just some thoughts ...

Well a lot of people on the server can barely play Vanilla Minecraft as well, so it's really their own choice :p Most people got a good enough computer to run FTB at decent fps.

Also FTB will only hit your FPS if you make big machinery, I get about 130fps on Vanilla and 120 on FTB with just a new generated world, so it's not an insane difference.

I actually mentioned this to Lawrence the other day, I'm not quoting him or being a supreme decision maker, but coming from him to me and now to you, Larry said he didn't think it would be possible, due to the strain of 2 servers on one machine.
It would still be great though

Yeah that would be an issue, I didn't really think of the hosting part when I wrote this, but looking at the current votes on the poll, it seems like a lot of players wouldn't even play on the server if it were to happen.

Having a player limit of like 50 would probably also be helpful, instead of the 500 limit that Noobscraft got :p

Well if you want to have some kind of modpack (for example ftb pack) , you just can download the launcher, start it, and it will do everything for you.
If you want to manually install 1 or 2 mods, you just downloading forge, making new folder called "mods" at %uppdata%, and placing the mode there, and you are pretty much done...

Installing mods for minecraft is way more easy then you thinking  :)

While we really appreciate that you seem to like the way we run things and are making suggestions to us we really have no plans at this time to venture away from Vanilla Minecraft servers at this time. We don't like the limited access that using a modded version of Minecraft means for players who aren't really sure how to use/install mods (what you think is really easy to do might be extremely confusing to some).

When using features such as those offered by Feed the Beast you are really in the control of the mod creators and as has been seen with many of those similar packages issues result in compatabilty issues and lack of continued development support; that causes problems like resets and crashes which are things we really want to avoid in a public server environment. As a result of the way modding is currently done it is likely to always be slightly unstable.

Once Minecraft's official plugin API is out this may change as the use/control of changes to clients will be much easier to add and control, but at this time we aren't going to spread into modded client servers.

That is fine, hopefully it happens some day :/
